On MTP, Schumer couldn't even take the time to honor Kerry's service to this country.

He did say, he didn't think it would have any effect on the elections. Remember that when people want to argue about it. He just

about confirmed for Timmy that Kerry meant what he said though.

All week long, John Kerry’s comments—an attempted joke about President Bush, he says, but it came out as an insult against the troops—played out. Did that hurt the Democrats?

SEN. SCHUMER: I don’t think so. John Kerry did the right thing. He apologized, and then he said he’s not going to talk about it anymore, and I don’t think it’s going to affect the election at all.

MR. RUSSERT: But it was the wrong thing to say.

SEN. SCHUMER: He admitted that. And he was a total gentleman, totally on his own, he said, “I’m not going to go out there and keep arguing this,” even though he wanted to, and I give him a lot of credit for that.

Oh, so it's a he says, he says, eh? How about the fact that it WAS a joke about Bush. Period. God, I hate these DC pundit idiots.

2. He just mindlessly repeats the Bush talking points
ANY Democrat who is aiding and abetting this GOP and GOP-media smear of Kerry is dead to me.

3. check this out
not just Kerry but hurting Lamont's chances and making fun of Kerry along with it. the thought of him sitting back there enjoying Kerry being out of the spotlight disgusts me. but Kerry will be back when the elections are over. i want to see him debate Kerry face to face.

6. The use of word "haughty" is interesting here
Kerry is asking the head of the DSCC to give money to the DEMOCRAT. Kerry did not support either in the primary, then supported Lamont when he won the nomination. That was the choice of the people. The one who is haughty is the creep saying he has a long memory and will remember those who were against him. What a sense of entitlement.

As in Firespirit's excellent diary on KG's blog, Kerry is the opposite of haughty - and it makes me sick that so many of lesser character are willing to kick him when he is down.

5. I don't interpret the attempted that way
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 07:23 AM by karynnj
rather attempted modifies joke - and the joke really doesn't work well even as written. As said it is a failed joke. (I actually have a problem with the word "joke" as it was more a snarky comment - which is why it was so bad politically when it faied.)

It's infuriating as it doesn't change who Kerry is as a person and that his serious policy ideas seem to be more on target than anyone else's. I can see all the comments that he would be a good, great, exceptional President - but he is not the best campaigner in todays toxic world. The process seems designed to prevent us from getting the statesman we need to be a strong and good country.

4. I see that more a proof his strategy is not working.

They have been advocating that getting Kerry out of the way would stop the rumor.

Results, Schumer is spending his time answering to questions like that.

I would have preferred to see Schumer dismiss the question and start attacking.

7. That would of been the best approach, take lemons and make
lemonade so to speak. He could of easily turned this around and used it to discuss the Iraq disaster and Bush's blunders. Instead he made some lame comments explaining it all away. Again, it is apparent the Dem's don't want to really take on this Iraq War. I will be curious to see just what happens when we win back the house and hopefully the senate.
