No excaping: this time Glenn Beck calls Kerry un-American!
Okay, tonight I took some time off to watch a movie and forget the stress of the past week. If only I'd stopped there, turned off the television and went to bed. But no, I had to channel surf for a quick glimpse of the news in case something major had happened during my R&R. Larry King was on CNN, so I turned to HLN hoping for a quick recap of recent news. And there was this pasty, sarcastic bastard named Glenn Beck saying that he'd never called anyone in his life un-American for dissenting or disagreeing with any political position. That caught my attention, so I listened. THEN, he followed up with "John Kerry is un-American!" To say I went "ape shit" is an understatement.

:nuke:

Here is a DU post about this miserable piece of maggot-infested roadkill:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=106&topic_id=26289

This hate-filled pustule gets a job with CNN after he has said things about wanting a Congressman to burst into flames and that he wanted to kill Michael Moore.

All I wanted was one night that was relatively stress-free (silly me) but instead I'm officially a boycott of one against CNN and HLN. If anyone wants to join me, you are welcome. :)

Here's my letter to the nice folks at CNN/HLN:

Frankly, I'm disgusted. I used to enjoy watching Headline News but lately it has become nothing more than a sewer.

Tonight's commentary by Glenn Beck insulting Senator John Kerry was the final straw. He called the Senator "un-American" for what has clearly been mis-characterized by both the Republican White House and the media. The media frenzy has frankly been both a disgrace and a insult to the intelligence of the American people.

It is clear to everyone I know including several Republican family members who voted for President Bush in 2004 that Senator Kerry was referring to George W. Bush in his so-called "controversial" comments last week. This entire thing has been much ado about nothing. Everyone I know from both sides of the political spectrum thinks this has been overblown and ridiculous. Mr. Beck, however, has taken reprehensible to new lows.

Please consider the viewing public when you hire hate merchants and purveyors of lies and spin. The public has a right to expect and demand news coverage instead of a media circus complete with clowns, animal acts and sideshows. CNN used to be a respected news station but the filth is now waist deep and rising.

I researched Glenn Beck after listening to his outrageous comments tonight and found out that he has made statements about wishing Representative Dennis Kuchinich would "burst into flames" and that he'd like to kill Michael Moore or have him killed. These were jokes? Even more outrageous is the fact that CNN hired this man to have his own show after he had already made these inflammatory comments. Whatever contract you offered him it was with full knowledge of the kind of hate that spews forth from this individual.

Why would CNN hire someone who has such hateful opinions and put him in a position where he can influence the minds of the public as a commentator? Don't we have enough hate and violence in our society as is?

I refuse to watch CNN or HLN again until the Glenn Beck show is off the air. And I will urge everyone I know to boycott your stations as well. There are alternatives. CNN no longer has the monopoly it used to enjoy. You may think that because you now have competition that you have to go for sensationalism by airing shows with angry and confrontational hosts such as Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck but this will backfire because America has had enough.

Just the news, please!

1. I am sick of this shit. I wrote them. This is gone to far.
What gives Beck or any of these people the right to question Kerry commitment to this country and cal him anti- American. They have gone over the top now. No man deserves the treatment Kerry has suffered through for a flub- elections or no elections. He is not running for anything.

4. Not only did he SAY it, there was a huge banner across the TV saying:
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 07:41 AM by _dynamicdems
JOHN KERRY IS UN-AMERICAN. I'm not talking a rotating news feed, but a big banner across the screen that sat there as Beck spoke. After he said that he'd singled JK out for his first time calling anyone this, I turned the television off. There may be a transcript up later today, but I was in no mood to watch Beck finish his attack.

When I read more about the man, I was even further disgusted.

Edit: Sunday's transcripts are not yet up, but here is a statement from last week. Apparently, last night was just an encore for Beck:

"Here`s the point tonight. I have never, ever called anyone un- American for the honest questioning of their government or this war. It is -- it is not our right to do it. It is our responsibility as citizens.

But John Kerry is where I draw the line. I want you to take a look at the statements that he made as this thing started unraveling."

2. thanks for your letter
I'd looked at CNN for the first time in months this week, and was shocked at how much it had declined in fairness and quality. Wolf Blitzer and Paul Zahn interviewing Ann Coulter as if she were just another objective reporter. . just beyond belief. Never heardd of Glenn Beck, thank goodness, but thanks for alerting me to his existence so that I can stay out of his orbit.
Am I right in remembering that Ted Turner has severed his ties with his "baby", CNN?? If so, I can see why.
GOTV.

3. I believe Turner sold his interest in the company.
I don't remember the details, but I'm pretty sure he has nothing to do with any decisions made there anymore.

5. He sold it years ago
which is too bad because he was not part of this RW cabal - far from it. It really has to hurt him to see CNN now. Even from the POV that CNN used to be 24 hour news coverage - not 24 hour talk show radio by "good" looking readers of right wing biased claptrap.
