1. He is on page 2. The article said he damaged his chances.

More of the Washington common wisdom.

...
The campaign also damaged the prospects of Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee who wasn't even on the ballot. Like other 2008 hopefuls, Kerry had been traveling the country to raise money and attention for midterm candidates, and he put his foot in his mouth by suggesting that students who don't study could end up stuck in Iraq.

Kerry said it was a botched joke about Bush, but Republicans used it to suggest that the Vietnam veteran was criticizing U.S. troops.

Kerry was forced to cancel campaign appearances so he wouldn't become a distraction to Democratic candidates, but his advisers promised he would be back out soon to talk about 2008.
...

(The sooner the better - He needs to change the news and can only do it by presenting a compelling perspective to break the DC insider buzz).

2. Oh, I agree. This is just "insider" talk and needs to be dispelled.
I watched CNN last night as Creepy Candy Crowley reported on 08ers and she mentioned Clinton and Kerry- no mention of the botched joke though- just said his negatives were higher than Clinton, based on their recent CNN poll. I found the poll and realized that it was taken during the "joke" period and CNN's vicious coverage of this.
As far as News Week,my opinion is they never have a good word to say about Kerry. They ignore him unless they can report negatives. I canceled the magazine because of how they seemed to promote Republicans and knock Dem's.

3. They simply don't want Kerry
to gain traction. Too late! They will launch into the lame BS about his Senate career and push the BS meme about a pattern of misstatements.

Well, if they want to talk about Kerry's record, let's. We can talk about fighting corruption, pushing progressive legislation, writing many of the most crucial pieces of legislation to address these issues, standing up for other Senate Democrats and fighting hard along side many of them to get their legislation through. Supporting, defending and championing Democratic values and Democrats. They can't fight the Senator's real record, so they create one to knock down!

of Kerry's real record. The war profiteering will come out - it is clear it occurred and it is dispicable. With that and the Bush lies as a backdrop, Kerry's BCCI stand could show that he is both strong and uncorruptible.

This is surprisingly fair though I would have preferred a "may have" before damaged. That is CW and it's far better than saying he is out. He can recover.

5. These people are, to be blunt, really frickin' dumb
Saying "John Kerry is out because of the joke" is a ridiculous statement. It is obvious that it's what they want to happen, and they seem to think that by saying it enough, they can make it happen.

It's a setback, not a death blow. Anyone who spins it as a death blow wants it to be a death blow.

It's been said before, but if they think that they can bully JK out of the race with this, they don't know him at all.

6. The Dem wins help Kerry.
In a month everyone will forget this phony joke controversy. If Kerry can get some things done in the Senate, then that can't but help his chances.
