Webb triumphantly holds up his son's combat boots--so full of meaning, so full of real courage. Then Lame-o pulls out a damn football and shows his version of manliness! Too funny! And a symbol of exactly where we are now--who the repubs are and who the Dems are!

On no, he's the lorax!
HE CONCEDED! HE CONCEDED! HE CONCEDED!
No more Barfbag. The Big Bag of Beef from Virginia is gone. No more bullying in the Senate chamber. No more, "I'll know his teeth in" discussions.
Thank you God for letting me live this long.

Well at least he's consistent, since he was so adamantly against the Gore recount in 2000.

Where was this graciousness during the six years in the Senate?
Ah, we WON. WE CONTROL THE US SENATE.
I got the vapors bigtime now.
Hello, Chairman Kerry.

I love you VA and PA people. You rock. I would offer you my first-born child in gratitude, but I wouldn't take her if I were you. (She costs a fortune in organic foods.)
I love you guys.
Thank you very much, Thank you very much, That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!

That wasn't just a concession speech.
This delusional man still wants to throw his hat in the ring for 2008. That speech had the earmarks of it. And I think he will do it.
If people like Allen (who would be finished within two months after declaring candidacy) and Vilsack (who polls a distant fourth in his home state and early primary state of Iowa) can harbor ideas of running for President, John Kerry is very much a credible candidate. Without a doubt.

Here are my first, gut-level impressions.
1. Vilsack will get a minor, temporary "buzz bump" in Iowa. He will probably peak in his state around 8%, and I'm being generous. This peak is likely to occur early, as well, and will disappear once other candidates declare.
2. I agree, it doesn't benefit Edwards. However, in my judgment, Edwards has seriously miscalculated this year anyway. He has raised no money for himself and has given away no money to anyone else. He just appeared at campaign appearances.
3. I think that Clinton would choose someone like Bayh for the other slot. Unless there is some sort of personal history I'm not aware of, I don't know why Vilsack would be chosen.
4. Zero net effect on Kerry. According to the before-and-after poll comparisons, the flap has not lost existing support for Kerry in early primary states. That poll someone posted above in the thread shows that Kerry apparently has pulled ahead of Edwards. Kerry needs to get out there and interact with these people, and they'll see who he really is.
5. Unless I am mistaken in my information, Iowa Governor-elect Chet Culver is a friend of Kerry's.
6. New Hampshire is lookin' good for him. The state party leader loves JK and defended him during the joke flap.
I really think that the Vilsack announcement is a wash for JK, possibly a short-term negative for others, and irrelevant in the long run.

and far more optimistic than the CW. It's also true that the reasons he was good before this blownup nonsense are still there.
I also think if Hillary blows off Iowa and counts on NH her willingness to pile on Kerry will hurt even if he opts not to run. It seems that NH is fond of Kerry. The question they had was if he could win. That may not make them too happy with Hillary.
