1. I'm being selfish here. I want him to run and win because I |
|
know he will be a president for the history books. Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington that kind of President. We are really long over due IMO.

2. I think he will run because he has what it takes to lead this country |
|
I don't think the 'botched joke' will be a major factor in his decision.

If the Democratic Party starts doing things like approving of John Bolton, he'll run because he's the strongest voice against the insanity. If the new Democrats get in there and reject the Billary wing, he'll run because he's the obvious choice to lead there too. It just depends on whether this 'consevative Dem' line takes hold. I think America voted for a change in Iraq and accountablity. They didn't vote for a couuple of tweaks in the economy, they voted for Washington to fundamentally change the way it does business. If I read most of these new Democrats right, they're going to be a lot more like Russ Feingold which I think means an end to the corporatist wing and that's what Hillary is. I don't see how they would side with her for President and once they 'get' John Kerry, they may well line up behind truth and integrity. It only makes sense to me.

4. John Kerry just has to be the best senator he can for the next 8 months and |
|
deal with the corporate media and the net issues and the foreign policy hearings, with little attention paid to the presidential race.
He should be tough and sincere as ever for the first 6 months of hearings and set the table as needed. People will recognize that and support him even if it doesn't seem so at first. After a few months of the contenders beating at each other and the press concentrating on THEIR slips of the tongue and misstatements, then people will realize that Kerry is sharp, more honest, and as good as it gets.

Of course the country would have been better off had he gone to the White House. However, he would've had to deal with a corrupt, reactionary, right-wing Congress that would have made his life hell and made it next to impossible to accomplish anything. There is a VERY strong possibility that the Congress wouldn't have changed hands this year either, because I think it took a combination of Bush-related Iraq idiocy and general Republican corruption to get rid of them.
Now, things are lined up for him to become a true reformist, a very effective President who has a cooperative Congress ready to help him FIX THINGS.
Kerry wasn't meant to go down in the history books as a President who couldn't get anything done because the Congress was composed of a bunch of corrupt, incompetent, malevolent right-wing thugs. He is destined for greatness.
