Is she serious?

IRAQ. AND COUNTING.

Thu Nov 9, 12:14 AM ET

Iraq. Iraq. Iraq.

Snip...

The vote was a rejection of the president's war effort.

That means more than Donald Rumsfeld's "fresh eyes."

It means more than replacing Rummy.

Changing deck chairs on the Titanic will not do the job.

If the lesson of Vietnam was that a war cannot be sustained without public support, how can this war be sustained?

If that wasn't the lesson, what was?

If John Kerry wasn't so tarnished, he might be able to point it out. But he is. Even in an excellent wave, there are casualties; in this one, he was the Democrat who got destroyed. Does he know yet? Who will tell the candidate? Candidates and would-be candidates tend to live in bubbles surrounded by people who tell them what they want to hear -- yes-men and women is what they are, and visiting yes-men -- which is the easiest thing to say anyway.

A Democratic House cannot force the president to end the war, at least not without doing the kind of harm to the troops that they would not do. But they can certainly keep the focus there, particularly with presidential politics looming in the background. With the nominations of both parties up for grabs (no incumbent, no Vice President), people are going to pay attention to the machinations between Congress and the president for only so long, which is to say, not very long. If the president doesn't start moving decisively on the war during that period, it is all you will hear about during the long presidential campaign, which is about to begin.

Seriously, is she serious?

1. Susan Estrich wrote "The Case for Hillary Clinton."
Enough said. She's still desperately trying to spin this as a death blow for Kerry because his presence is very incovenient to any potential Hillary candidacy.

5. That book was atrocious
the strange thing is that she regonizes that Kerry is the one who could do this. A slightly botched joke doesn't change all his very very real credentials here - at worst maybe he will have to promise no more jokes for n weeks to show contrition for being a bad comedian but an incredibly good peson and Senator.

7. I scanned it at Barnes & Noble - looking JK up in the index
Among other things she defines Hillary marriage to Bill as Bill marrying the smartest girl in the room; Kerry (unlike Bill) chose to marry for money (Whome posted her saying the opposite in 2004 in the primaries - I guess she thought Kery might hire her.)

She argues he was an awful candidate - but she essentially says that of every possible candidate but Hillary. I don't remember most of it because I looked at it a long time ago and my brain had the good sense to erase most of it.

It wasn't just Kerry - she was an equal opportunity trasher.

8. Estrich is one of a kind. During the NH campaign, she wrote a piece about JK and THK

that could have been entitled "They really love each other" (add an incredulous tone), where she explains that she has an ax to grind because one of her friend dated Kerry in the 80s and did something she (Estrich) did not like.

In addition of being Dukakis campaign manager (which should tell us a lot about her political abilities) and from being a FOX pundit. This is a lot for one woman.

9. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she said the same thing before. This conclusion

keeps on getting repeated, but just like the overkill in the media,it doesn't make any sense. I suppose they think if they repeat it enough it might become fact. Well, she doesn't make a case with me. This all comes off as gossip-period.
