Yooper newspaper needs a response
Ran across this editorial from a yooper newspaper and wondering if there's any yoopers or north WI people who want to take on responding to them.

For the uninformed, yooper is the nickname for those residents of the upper peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan who really spend more time and money in Wisconsin than they do in lower Michigan.

1. Thanks for that link.
It's important to stay on top of these lies.

My parents lived for a while in the U.P., and I've visited there. I have a sister who lives there now. It's hard-to-reach physically, but good god, what a ridiculous pile of crap.

2. We've

been there a couple-three times. My kids were cross-country ski racers in high school and participated in The Great Bear Chase (26km or 50 km) race.

Couldn't believe how much snow there was in Houghton the one year. I liked the explanation for the second-floor front doors -- used when there's so much snow that you can't dig out the front door on the first floor so you make steps out of the snow that reaches the second floor. And that year they just about needed to.

3. It's true.
I was there once in the winter, and they just give up trying to plow to the bare pavement - the base gets taller and taller.

But that's no excuse whatsoever for being uninformed. My sister and her husband visited one day in the early fall, and we got into a near argument over their pinheaded view of Kerry.

4. Oh, where does she live?
My sister-in-law lives near Ironwood now, just over the border. They have a 40 acre place with a woods, and the property tax is next to nothing. But of course you have to drive for hours to get to any real shopping or entertainment. And they also just bought a little place on Lake Superior that has the most fabulous view (yes, they have $$$--hubby's a physician).
