Anyone want to tell Chuck Schumer what they think on dailykos?

Over 500 comments, but I suppose someone may print it for him. Who knows?

1. I did.
Thank you for your efforts in this (0+ / 0-)
I gave a small amount in Ted Kennedy's name to the DSCC. I gave the rest of my money to support Democrats through Sen. Kerry's PAC, as I trusted him to commit thoroughly to good Democrats, like Ned Lamont, in our efforts to take back the Senate.

I am glad I did both.

11. I took the opportunity to express my displeasure in how the whole
flub was handled. I even took a dig at Clinton- I just couldn't help myself.

2. I was a lot less gracious:
http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2006/11/15/11344/425/569#c569

I have mixed feelings here (0 / 0)

On one hand, I am very pleased with the electoral results, and want to give you the kudos for a job well done. However, as a Democratic constituent and citizen, I would be remiss if I didn't point out the mistakes made in letting that draconian Detainee Bill pass through, by foolishly relying on McCain to do the right thing, when his integrity has been long gone. I am counting on you folks in the Senate to fix it so that habeas corpus can be restored and all loopholes that allow torture to be closed.

I also am still reeling from the treatment of Senator Kerry for his "horrible sin" of botching a Bush joke (gee, haven't you all made gaffes from time to time). He was smeared by the president and the right for "insulting the troops" which was an outright lie, and I just can't believe that many in the leadership of the Democratic party wouldn't defend the honor of our last presidential candidate. I think his stance on Iraq is the right one, and a botched joke will not change his moral certitude in coming out with the truth back in April this year that our troops needed to withdraw according to a timetable. Please understand that Senator Kerry continues to enjoy a lot of loyal supporters across the country, and a small amount of decency is the least I expect from the Democratic leadership in the Senate.

Thank you for reading, and once again, thank you for all of your work in getting a Democratic majority in the Senate (I live in Virginia and Webb's victory was particularly sweet).

4. Thanks. I may be stupid to admit it, but that ridiculous photo op
business, real or unreal, forced me to give NO MERCY to that guy. He has a lot of hubris right now, and needs to be cut down to size. Unfortunately, there was too much "We love you" or "Fuck you" on that thread. Neither were particularly helpful since the former adds to his ego and the latter he can easily dismiss as being the incoherent ramblings of crackpots. Schumer needs to realize that Democrats stand for something and the foot soldiers in the party will continue to put his feet to the fire to do the right thing.

5. Don't take this the wrong way,

(I mean it as a compliment) - you've been reminding me lately of the Diane Keaton character, Luna Schlosser, in Sleeper. Have you ever seen that movie? She starts out conservative and ends up a wild-eyed radical. I'm teasing you, but I mean it affectionately.

BTW, if you haven't seen it, it's a hilarious movie - one of Woody Allen's best.

me that I crossed the line and was completely rude!! I haven't seen that movie -- I'll need to check it out. It is pretty funny that I, a former Independent person of fairly conservative temperament, come across as a radical. But, you know, when you find out that your own government, ordered by the president, is torturing -- such a radical departure from the U.S. Constitution and the Geneva Conventions, it kind of demands a radical response, like dressing down a powerful U.S. Senator (albeit anonymously).

I'm still nervous about the impeachment talk. I think we should take one step at a time.

Edited to add: Andrew Sullivan has been making a similar transformation far more radical. From endorsing Bush in 2000 to demanding the whole lot of them be tried as war criminals!

7. Not so much radical,
as radicalized.

It's all relative.

I'm not so sure about impeachment either. Seems to me that by the time it made its way through Congress, he'd be out of office anyway. I would, however, like to see him in a maximum securit prison somewhere. For a l-o-n-g time.

The War Among the Democrats is making me feel sick. I can't stand these mealy-mouthed middle-of-the-roaders, and I an coming to greatly loathe Hillary Clinton, who comes across to me anyway as a politico without principles. And I hate the way they are tying to take over. The stuff about her and Vilsack's possible deal is nauseating.

8. I don't think it's stupid to admit it.
I feel alienated from the Dem leadership already because of what people have been saying about JK and Howard Dean. We all accomplished this together, and it sucks to be made to feel like somebody else gets to pick and choose who feels good about what happened last Tuesday.

10. Both sides of that equation can suck.
Victory has a thousand fathers, while defeat is an orphan.

Honestly, isn't politics grand?

16. Me too.
I didn't even bother thanking him, just started in on how Kerry has been treated. My post will probably be troll rated but it was worth it.

Even Keith Olbermann recognized that Dems are ignoring/slighting JK. On his show tonight he mentioned Kerry's lateral move in comparison to the Repugs bringing back formerly demoted (and disgraced) Trent Lott into a power position as Minority Leader. The word "irony" was mentioned.

13. Brilliant - sounds so positive - but
then credits Kerry, not him as the one you gave money to.

12. The more I think about this the angrier I get
Is Chuck Schumer so arrogant that he thinks he can just stroll onto a major blog, issue a tepid, praise-seeking diary, and be a netroots idol instantly? This post itself is in a way a slap in the face of those Democrats who DO take the grassroots seriously and have had meaningful interactions with bloggers - namely, Dean, Kerry, Feingold and others.

This is sad, but my distaste for the "leadership" of this party is starting to adversely affect my enthusiasm for our win. I knew the DLC/Clinton types were going to desperately spin this election as a victory for themselves, but seeing it in action - and seeing Schumer's sad pandering to the netroots - is just really pissing me off.

:grr:

14. Patience WEL
The netroots know all about who came through for us in Connecticut and who didn't. We have a lot of things to let play out into the New Year. Have patience.

This too shall pass and no one is being fooled here.
