Sigh, read this article and weep. 20 fricking thousand more troops a la McCain (still lower than what McCain wants) are going to be sent in for "one last push", and it's all Kissinger who is still trying to fight the Vietnam War. These people are BEYOND sanity and are living in a dream world:

1. Last thing they said on the Young Turks this morning

was, if you have a kid fighting in Iraq, "GET THEM OUT, no matter what you have to do." I don't know in real world terms how you could do that, but I sure appreciated the sentiment.

And at this point, it would be instructive to see what kind of opposition an attempt to reinstitute the draft would provoke.

Already there is a Bush-inspired hippie resurgence in the 20-year-old age group. I know, because my younger son is among them. It's very interesting - these kids are all about living all the best parts of the hippie culture - creativity, acceptance, diversity, lack of materialism, environmental consciousness. No drugs, very clean living, but definitely counterculture. Lots of vegans among them. A large number of his friends don't even drive cars. Is anyone else seeing this where you live?

2. Definitely here
My middle daughter and her friends are very much that way. Also very involved in things like helping those less fortunate in the community outside their colleges.

3. It's interesting, isn't it?
It must be a phenomenon, then. My older kids are much more "straight." Relatively speaking, anyway. Though my daughter spent her high school summers living the hippie life, and still pines for it sometimes. :hippie:
