Elias speaks:
(music to my ears): http://www.chimesatmidnight.blogspot.com/http://chimesatmidnight.blogspot.com/2006/11/grace-notes-from-caucus-day-2006.html

...There is a pathology in the democratic party that we like to cut our defeated candidates dead. This is a form of reaction formation, having gone thru endless campaigns wherein our patriotism (and also our machismo) has been questioned, mocked and or denied, this conditioning therefore dictates we make a bitter burnt offering of the candidate as expiation for their lack of "balls, gumption-n-guts".

The punditariat love to take this line because it fosters divisions within the democratic party which in turn gives them a chance to pontificate in extremis.

So we have become the party of disposability, Kerry symbolically joins McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis and Gore in the disdain-zone.

Frankly this is nothing but playing the GOP's game for them though, it is a type of psychic terrorism that we have internalized given the way our enemies frame the argument when they win.

Well...last week WE WON.

So as a gesture of mental health...can we let say Walter Mondale and Senator Kerry out of purgatory?

Just for a start?

2. if you just use the first part of the url,
www.chimesatmidnight.blogspot.com, it works.. just look for Nov 16 post (right now, it's at the top).

Worth looking at whole thing, since
FIRST paragraph is also good!
" . . . I recall with the simplest nostalgia when Senator John Kerry (along
with Future Governor Deval Patrick) made a brief appearance at
Menotomy's democratic caucus back in February. The former presidential
candidate made some rousing remarks and openly predicted that the
democrats would take the Senate this year.
Now, let us make one thing clear, he was applauded and generally
well-recieved (these are after all, his loyal Spartans)...but there
were those in thr aud, some of them playas on the local scene who
thought his prophesy rash and ill-considered.
HA!
Who is rash and ill considered NOW?"

And, yes, AMEN!

4. Sorry, Rox,
I always forget to fix his links - he's a great writer but not the most tech savvy. ;-)

Correct link: http://chimesatmidnight.blogspot.com/2006/11/grace-notes-from-caucus-day-2006.html

6. I agree with that.
McCain got to bloviate in a speech today and he is talking trash on Iraq. We need to have intelligent people out talking who are speaking real truth to power.

Purgatory is awful. Terrible cable. Crappy bland food. No nightlife at all.

7. I really, really, really, really miss Kerry's voice on Iraq
Some things go beyond presidential politics and egos, etc. We NEED him speaking out against this war.

I watched that video you linked to, and although a good speech, he wasn't at the top of his game. Perhaps more time is needed after that whole awful episode (press delete -- sounds good, Senator!), but hopefully he can speak out soon.

9. The week in the Senate was too short
and fully booked. There was no time.

However, there will be time after Thanksgiving.

Me too Beachmom, me too. I really miss a voice of,well, reality here.

10. All I've been reading lately is HOW MANY more troops that
are going in there -- 20,000, 100,000 -- just unbelieveable. There's also choosing sides of the civil war -- Prosense pointed out that brilliant idea.

And Murtha has been a little bit sidelined with that whole leadership vote kerfuffle. The weird part is that Bush isn't the only problem here -- the Clinton people or DLC types are trying to act like some half ass begin to withdrawal but not really plan will do.

Agree -- more reality.

11. That's a smokescreen
We don't have a spare 20,000 troops to send. They don't exist. The folks who are over there are on their 2nd, 3rd and 4th deployment as it is.

This is a fake-out. I think it's a diversionary discussion from what is really being talked about.
