I've had the week from hell
Without getting too deeply into details, I've had such a stressful, crummy, disappointing, sad week - the grey, cold, drizzly weather hasn't helped. "No Surrender" just came up on my iTunes and I started sobbing like a baby.

I guess I'm just shamelessly posting for some virtual hugs. I can't get a real hug at the moment, and I feel lonely. :( I'm ready to be optimistic again.

Tomorrow Tomorrow - I love ya' tomorrow - You're only a day away..

Me and the doctor were singing that yesterday, it just popped in my head.

She didn't prescribe chocolate - but I will.

Feel better!

4. When I feel like that, I do one of two things: Blog (for one)...at DU! Always comforting.
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 01:56 AM by zann725
Or go see a movie...preferably something "light"...to comfort my inner-child. Something about the group energy in a darkened theatre always has been my best refuge...ever since I was a wee one.

Hope you soon feel better, via whatever means help you through. Seems others here are also going through tough times as well. Yet think...even if the rest of life sucks, think of how much worse EVERYTHING would be without that recent HUGE Dem victory. That at least should be ONE ray of light that we ALL contributed to in our own ways. When you're feeling down, remember how it was BEFORE the recent election. Then now...

Hang in there. Feel better soon.

5. Aw. I hope things get at least a little better soon.
My week, though probably not as bad as yours, was NOT helped by the shift into cold, bleak November. Sometimes, I find November starkly beautiful. This year, it's just stark.

10. Deep Breath.
If this bad week has anything to do with your self-image rest assured that we recognize your writing talent, your ability to see through nonsense, and personality (to the extent that you can online) --- If it is a self-image issue about your abilities just take a step back and have faith that soon you will be able to appreciate your own assets. Do you write poems or keep a journal?

Writing out a description and history of your troubles on a couple pages helps with getting distance and perspective

If you did something bad and feel guilt or regret remember what JK says when asked about mistakes on the 2004 campaign trail -- "lesson learned"

If you lost someone close to you -- I am sorry. This is something with which we all have to cope at sometime or another.

Anyway when I have had difficulty I used to lean toward watching the Rockford files and Streets of SanFrancisco beer and potato chips. When my wife is bummed it is Ice cream, cigarettes, bed and then Oprah/Springer.

I don't know what has made you sad and I hope you are feeling better today

15. I will watch musicals and/or really violent SF movies
They really work for me. (Ahm, yeah, not particularly mentally stable choices, but they work for me.)

Ahm, whistle:

What Do The Simple Folk Do? Lyrics (Camelot)

GUENEVERE
What do the simple folk do
To help them escape when they\'re blue?
The shepard who is ailing, the milkmaid who is glum
The cobbler who is wailing from nailing his thumb
When they\'re beset and besieged
The folk not noblessly obliged
However do they manage to shed their weary lot?
Oh, what do simple folk do we do not?

ARTHUR
I have been informed by those who know them well
They find relief in quite a clever way
When they\'re sorely pressed, they whistle for a spell
And whistling seems to brighten up their day
And that\'s what simple folk do
So they say

GUENEVERE
They whistle?

ARTHUR
So they say

(they whistle for a while)

GUENEVERE
What else do the simple folk do
To pluck up the heart and get through?
The wee folk and the grown folk
Who wander to and fro
Have ways known to their own folk
We throne folk don\'t know
When all the doldrums begin
What keeps each of them in his skin?
What ancient native custom provides the needed glow?
Oh, what do simple folk do?
Do you know?

ARTHUR
Once, upon the road, I came upon a lad
Singing in a voice three times his size
When I asked him why, he told me he was sad
And singing always made his spirits rise
And that\'s what simple folk do
I surmise

GUENEVERE
They sing?

ARTHUR
I surmise

BOTH
Arise, my love, arise, my love
Apollo\'s lighting the skies, my love
The meadows shine with columbine
And daffodils blossom away
Hear Venus call to one and all
And taste delight while you may
The world is bright and all is right
And life is merry and gay

GUENEVERE
What else do the simple folk do?
They must have a system or two
They obviously outshine us at turning tears to mirth
And tricks a royal highness is minus from birth
What, then, I wonder, do they
To chase all the goblins away?
They have some tribal sorcery you haven\'t mentioned yet
Oh, what do simple folk do to forget?

ARTHUR
Often, I am told, they dance a fiery dance
And whirl \'till they\'re completely uncontrolled
Soon the mind is blank and oh, they\'re in a trance
A violent trance astounding to behold
And that\'s what simple folk do
So I\'m told

GUENEVERE
They dance?

ARTHUR
So I\'m told

(they dance)

GUENEVERE
What else do the simple folk do
To help them escape when they\'re blue?

ARTHUR
They sit around and wonder what royal folk would do
And that\'s what simple folk do

GUENEVERE
(spoken)
Oh, no, really?

ARTHUR
I have it on the best authority.

BOTH
(sung)
Yes, that\'s what simple folk do

14. I'm sorry, WEL, you're a little down
My advice is to try to take time out to do something you enjoy like music, see a movie, or something creative like art or journaling. Although food is a nice temporary fix, sometimes it leads to feeling worse afterwords. And, also, exercise, exercise, exercise. I was a little down after my first baby, and that was the advice my doctor gave me -- it really does improve your mood.

And, of course, it goes without saying that you have a brilliant way of writing, and you're going to go far with those talents! One bad week will not change that fact.

16. Sorry to hear that, WEL -
Of course, nowhere to go but up, right? :P

I recommend doing something totally distracting - maybe Borat? I hear the two-guy nude mud wrestling scene is extremely distracting.

Seriously, I hope it's just the usual college stresses, and nothing long-lasting.

19. Oh my Lord, I already saw that

NOT for the weak of stomach/easily offended, but possibly one of the most hysterical movies I've ever seen. You could argue that it's mean spirited that Borat exposes the ugly prejudices of Americans with such diabolical glee, but I have had thoroughly enough of the bigoted, hateful freeper crowd, and it was beyond satisfying to watch some of the nastiest ones get a delicious comeuppance on national film.

21. I'm sorry you're feeling down!
We all have different ways of coping with stress and depression, but here are some of the lyrics of a song I like to listen to when I'm in the dumps.
Hope they help

Child, don't you worry
It's enough you're growing up in such a hurry
Brings you down the news they sell you
To put in your mind that all mankind is a failure

But nobody knows what's gonna happen tomorrow
We try not to show how frightened we are
If you let me I'll protect you however I can

You've got to believe
it'll be alright in the end

Fighting, because we're so close
There are times we punish those who we need the most
No, we can't wait for a saviour
Only got ourselves to blame for this behaviour

And nobody knows what's gonna happen tomorrow
We try not to show how frightened we are
Would seem lonely, if you were the only star in the night

You've got to believe
it'll be alright again

time is a river
a silent icy river
pulls us all
running deep
deep and fast enough to get lost down in the flow
thrashing around me
tiny lives mean everything

And nobody knows what's gonna happen tomorrow
So don't let go, now we've come this far
Hope I have peace
Understand me
you're never alone

We've got to believe
it'll be alright in the end

nobody knows

You've got to believe
it'll be alright my friend

So don't let go
Unless we believe
it'll be alright again

Nobody knows
