Kerry chides Mitt to seek aid from feds for stricken town
<Gov. Mitt Romney and U.S. Sen. John Kerry toured the site of yesterday’s devastating chemical plant explosion in Danvers and vowed to assist residents and businesses in the cleanup - with Kerry urging Romney to seek federal aid.

“I’ve seen some pretty tough sights,” including the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, Romney said after touring the destroyed plant and damaged houses and shops yesterday afternoon. “But in a residential neighborhood, for a man-made source rather than a hurricane or tornado, this is a pretty devastating sight.”

Romney said the state would evaluate what assistance was available, but Kerry, who toured the site a few hours later, sent his possible 2008 presidential race rival a letter yesterday demanding immediate action.

“As you know, the plant explosion is reported to have either leveled or severely damaged nearly 75 homes and destroyed multiple businesses, leaving the area surrounding the plant in a state of severe economic and physical distress,” Kerry wrote, asking Romney to join in an immediate call for federal disaster declarations for residents and businesses.

Romney said he would seek federal relief, if it is warranted and available, as soon as state and federal officials determine the need.

“The need’s here, if they can be met by the state, they will be,” Romney said. “If it’s beyond the capacity of the state, then we will go to the federal government. That’s something we will assess as we get a more complete review of what has happened here exactly.”>

3. Mothah a Gawd, we can't get rid of Romney fast enough
This is the second time this year that bastid has screwed Massachusetts cities and towns by not requesting federal help fast enough. The first tme was when towns were devastated by the spring floods and Romney just didn't give a shit. He didn't apply for federal relief fast enough. He doesn't give a damn about anything but Mitt and Mitt's chances to be President. (He can't have it on his resume that he actually *helped* the residents of that sinful State of Massachusetts and their gay-marrying librul voters. Perish the thought. What if someone in the Christian Coalition found out he had helped those sinners. Nope, can't have that.)

Dear Lord in heaven, January can't come quick enough to get rid of this friggin bastid. Aren't Governor's supposed to, I don't know, help the people of their states and not go around the country proclaiming their undying hatred for the people who elected them?

Thank God for good people like Sen. Kerry. Thank you sir for coming in and actually trying to help people after a disaster. Thank you for focusing on the needs of the people who just lost everything they own and the means for making a living. Thanks for doing so when it was safe to do so and when it didn't take away from the efforts of the First Responders (of which my brother is one) to secure the disaster site.

I know I will be hearing about this all day today. Two of my brothers and their families will be at the Danvers - Gloucester football game and I'm sure word will get around about exactly who was devastated by this tragedy. I'm sure that I'll start to put names and faces together and that it will be awful to realize how bad winter is going to be for some people, like that Dad in the paper who grabbed his 4 kids, including an infant, and nothing else and fled his house. We'll help each other, with help from people we elected who actually give a damn about us.

Romney can go rot in hell for all I care.

4. He is an utter shit.
And a freaking camera hound.

At one point yesterday every *&%^$# tv station had his smarmy mug on it, smirking and acting as if he cared. Bah.

The good thing is, he seems to be entering the media's radar screen, and is starting to get some scrutiny. They love him on the teevee pundit shows, but Stephanie Miller gave him a good going-over yesterday.

Elias and I have entered into a blog pact to throw everything we have at him.

I did hear that the community had really rallied for the poor people whose homes were devastated.

5. This is how you respond to a disaster
Boston Globe 11/24/06

"At Danvers Town Hall, representatives will be on hand today from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and the US Small Business Administration. Representatives from US Senator John F. Kerry's office and the state insurance commissioner are also expected at the hall, which is scheduled to open at 10 a.m."

Makes me sad to think of this and then Katrina and then do the "what if" thing. Sigh!
