Kerry approval is less than 50% in MA?
According to a post at MyDD: http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/11/23/132649/69#commenttop

If this is true, will it affect his decision to run for president again? As in, he would rather give up his Senate seat anyway, given that it would be a fight to win re-election. But maybe this poll is skewed because of the joke; anybody know what his approval rating usually is?

1. This poll was conducted from 11/8/06 to 11/11/06
So it appears it was done in the middle of the botched-joke media hate fest. Normally, while never beating Teddy in approval ratings, Jon Kerry's numbers are much better than that. He is by no means vulnerable in a Senate reelection, as the poster seems to believe.

3. whew--that's good
It didn't seem possible that he'd really be in trouble in MA.

In 2002, even though it was a nobody Repub, he won reelection with 81% of the vote.

Kennedy just won reelection with 69%

6. Interesting internals. According to this, the botched joke would have changed
the approval of women from a + 20 to a -7 %, men staying positive. This does not make a lot of sense.

Last time I saw something that stupid, it was after Kerry Healey had the LaGuer's campaign. SUSA had Patrick down for women, why men did not care.

8. The SUSA poll has been very erratic
The particulars of that poll don't make any sense. One month, Sen. Kerry is up in Boston, then next, for no discernable reason, he is down. The regional polling doesn't make any sense at all. I would take those polls and average them for a 3 or 4 month period and then pair them off with something more reliable.

The Boston Globe/Suffolk Univ poll conducted just before the last election, showed Sen. Kerry with 55% approval, about 35% disapproval and about 10% undecided. The last poll that mattered was in Nov of '04. Sen. Kerry won his home state when he was on the ballot statewide with 62% of the vote.
