Unbelievable and shocking. The Hell Bush has created in Iraq.
I think I have now reached my breaking point. There are no good options. The best option at this point is the one that will save as many lives as possible. It will take decades to train Iraqi's to be loyal to the entire government and not their religious sects. i realize this is just one reported incident, but I doubt this is a rare occurrence.

Shiites Burn Six Sunni Worshipers Alive

Shiite militiamen grabbed six Sunnis as they left Friday worship services, doused them with kerosene and burned them alive near Iraqi soldiers who did not intervene, police Capt. Jamil Hussein said.

Iraqi soldiers who did not intervene, police Capt. Jamil Hussein said. THIS IS JUST OUTRAGEOUS! UNBELIEVABLE!!

What are we training them for? Why did they not get involved? Shocking how brazen the Shiites were. They carried out this horrible act right in front of the Iraq soldiers.

2. 160 killed yesterday--unimaginable
While we in the U.S. ate our turkey, mahem reigned in Iraq. And the WH acts as if it's nothing.

3. It's a civil war now, with hideous ethnic cleansing like your
report described. Down thread from a couple of days ago, I linked to a BBC 4 documentary about the Death Squads operating in Iraq, often with tacit approval by government ministers -- the Americans knew full well what was going on but cast a blind eye in the false hopes that the problem would go away. Although I blame the Americans overall for the screw up and foolishness, the Iraqis are hardly blameless. They have chosen insanity over peace and there's not a damned thing our soldiers can do about it. If they weren't already there, people would be screaming for the U.N. to get involved and for peacekeepers to stop the killing. The problem is America is ill suited to be peacekeepers because they were the ones who sparked the civil war by invading a country illegally and then not bothering to provide law and order once Saddam Hussein was toppled.

So we are in the unenviable position of both starting a HORRIBLE civil war AND being unable to stop it. We seem to be fighting the Sunnis more than the Shi'ites, when in reality, I find both sides to be dispicable, while it is mostly the innocent who die, as they are caught in the middle.

This is worse than Bosnia, and it could end up being worse than Rwanda by the time it's over. Keep in mind everything happening now is with our troops there. I don't know how much ethnic cleansing they're preventing, or how worse it'll be if our troops leave. But at the moment, our troops are dying for that Iraqi government, which is either powerless or unwilling to stop the militias' murderous rampages. I mean -- when that bomb went off in Sadr City yesterday, it was no longer a pure terrorist attack against the innocent -- the Shi'ite militias that come out of Sadr City ruled by Moqtada al Sadr have been drilling holes in people's heads, forcing confessions, and then murdering them. Sometimes they kill them in front of their families. And these killings equal or surpass the suicide bombers' casualties.

Bad, bad, bad -- that's what Iraq is.
