Much love due to Elias
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 10:56 AM by whometense
:loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

for today's common sense post: http://chimesatmidnight.blogspot.com/2006/11/oh-dearoh-my.html

...The origins of this disaffection are easy to see, Kerry lost in '04 after the usual campaign of brutal emasculation from the hard right in the country.

Having endured a full year of having their manhood questioned, disheartened liberals traditionally expiate their injured psyches by turning on the nominee like rats in a firestorm.

Thus they symbolically say to the nation "We aren't unmanly, we can beat down John Kerry (Or Walter Mondale or Mike Dukakis or Al Gore) with the best of them!!"

This is nothing except appropriating the oppressor's own malign emotional iconography, something we must purge from ourselves if we mean to govern and build a majority in the elections to come.

It seems to me, that botched joke aside, John Kerry did a lot of good this year from personal appearances for democratic challengers to fundraising on behalf of the same.

Lets try to remember that going forward.

1. Well put.
So, Kerry is targeted by a bunch of dick heads because they feel dick less? Sorry, but I am just fed-up with these macho weenies.

2. I really appreciate this line:
This is nothing except appropriating the oppressor's own malign emotional iconography, something we must purge from ourselves if we mean to govern and build a majority in the elections to come.

I don't think this is recognized as much as it needs to be. Being oppressed and abused doesn't justify taking on the tactics of the abuser.

6. Yet, it is a pattern that has repeated itself over and over again.
Maybe the Dem party needs some self-esteem and self-worth training.

3. OMG! A rational voice in this debate
How nice to hear. Elias is a good guy. This is a great, common sense post.

I think we have to wait this one out.

BTW, did you hear? Bill Frist is NOT running for President. I think he misses killing cats and decided he wants to resume the humble life of a country surgeon. Perhaps he wants to try manipulating stocks as a civilian. Maybe open up a 'Dr. Frist's Lon-Distance,Video Diagnosis of Patients in a Permanent Vegetative State Based on 5 Year Old Tape' business. (I could refer some Rethugs to him. I swear these people are in a functional vegetative state.)

4. To be fair, he actually WAS a good doctor before his political career
And when the Senate was out of session he would to "charity surgeries" in 3rd world countries. I really do hope he decides to devote his life to medicine again. He CAN earn his reputation back (the embarrassing Terri Schiavo thing) if he does good works.

5. Oh great, I was on a roll
and now I have to be fair. (Grumble, grumble, grumble.) Nobody is ever fair to us, but we have to be all noble and stuff. It's not fair I tell you. I had a whole bunch of jokes all saved up for Sen. Frist and now, damn, I have to be, yuck, good. Sigh! (Do unto others and all that.)

It's true that Dr. Frist was a charitable doc offering his services to poor folks in many other lands. I heard he operated on gorillas at the National Zoo for fun and stuff as well. I do hope he does a lot of charity work. That would be nice. (And I did hear he was a great doctor.)

8. Whoops -- sorry for raining on your parade
The way JK has been treated, I feel it is only right to invoke the Golden Rule at this time. You'll feel better for it at Mass on Sunday. Really.

9. Hadn't heard this.
Sounds like good news to me. He never did seem totally comfortable as a right wing zealot - not in the way, say, Icky Ricky was.

14. Evidently, Biden's in.
Or is this old news?

http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/nov/29/biden_ive_decided_i_am_going_to_run_for_president_0

"I've decided I am going to run" for President, Joe Biden says in a taped interview scheduled to air tonight on Boston's NECN-TV, according to the Boston Globe. Biden made a similar comment to ABC News earlier this month.

In the Boston interview, interestingly, Biden also says he'd be surprised if Barack Obama seeks the Presidency, the Globe reports. Biden previously suggested he might run on CBS' Face The Nation in 2005, saying: "If, in fact, I think that I have a clear shot at winning the nomination by this November or December, then I'm going to seek the nomination."

Meanwhile, Senator Bill Frist has now ruled out a run for the Presidency. His formal announcement is set for 1 P.M. today.

"Having endured a full year of having their manhood questioned..."

After the Democrats' trouncing of the GOP, detractors are still at it!

Bravo Elias!
