Awww, Curt's not running; WEEI (Boston) goes into mourning

Curt Schilling, Red Sox pitcher has announced that he does not plan on retiring after the 2007 season and thus will not be available to run for the Senate against John Kerry. Ahm, LOL!

Why Curt can't run in MASSACHUSETTS:

"Given the Q&A last week from the media on me about the Senator thing, and all the other stuff that was going on, some questions were being asked about potentially running in 2008, although I will say I do have a lot more respect for Joe Lieberman today, but you know the ironic thing about that whole situation is, when you read through that, isn't it amazing how hard it is for someone just to say they're gonna vote for the right guy instead of the party? And as far as Hilary Clinton goes, I just want her to keep talking. Amazing. I just cringe every time I hear someone with a voice in the political scene talking out against the war. I'm not for it. No one's for it, but I just feel like, especially someone like Hillary, who has to know that those comments have serious implications overseas for the men and women of the United States armed forces, and it scares the hell out of me."

Channel 7 was running a stupid story about a Duck that wouldn't die. They showed footage of Plucky The Duck who had survived 2 days in a freezer only to revive and had undergone surgery at the vets, flatlined and then was brought back during the operation. Nice story. The commentator on Ch. 7 then said:

"Doctors said the only thing that could kill Plucky now is having to watch Prince Charles try and sink another jump shot."

Curt Schilling?! Curt SCHILLING!? I think that would have been one of the classic landslides in favor of the incumbent in U.S. Senate history.

The very pitiful Massachusetts Republican Party is going through a period of severe delusion. They believe with all their heart that because Sen. Kerry is only running for the US Senate again from Mass and not for Pres and Senate that he is somewhat diminished and that they can beat him. Ah, no.

In all honesty, try and walk a mile in their shoes for a second. You just log the Governorship after 16 years. The Rainbow Green Party just fielded more candidates statewide than you did in the last election and you've lost 31,000 people off the rolls as registered Republicans in the State. This makes a bad situation worse. Repubs are only 13% of the electorate in Mass now. BTW, the 31,000 registered voters loss occurred during the reign of Mitt Romney, mostly because he ran a targeted campaign to increase the Repub vote in the state. Yes, it was an astonishing failure. (May he do for the national Repub Pary what he did for Massachusetts.)

Ahm, I can understand why delusions of grandeur have set in. Peter Torkildsen, new head of the State Repub Party has to rebuild the thing from the ground up and get rid of the Fundie Element that is making the Pubbies here about as attractive as spoiled fish. (Hey, I went to St. Mary's for 8 years with Peter. Sigh!)

Okay, sympathy over. I hate these people. I hope with all my heart they run Kerry Healey, who lost the last Governors race by 20 points. Make her spend all that lovely money in pursuit of Barbie's Senate TownHouse. Please. Oh please. Dear Lord, Kerry VS. ah, Kerry. My money's on the tall guy.

...John Kerry opted out of the 2008 Presidential race this week, and the Herald inexplicably wants to make this into a golden opportunity for Republicans to win his Senate seat. Um, no. As if Kerry’s in-state popularity, his campaign war chest, and the GOP’s recent track record in statewide races isn’t enough, consider that on the election day in question, Bay Staters will be swarming the polls to vote roughly 2-to-1 for the Democrat for President (maybe 4-to-1 if Romney’s on the GOP ticket). The state Republicans will be lucky if they find a serious candidate to run. Actually, they might be luckier if they don’t; they’d probably do better writing off the Senate race and using those resources at the lower levels...
