The Senate is full of gasbags today.
They are trying to debate Iraq and can't figure out the speaking order. I think they have spent 20 minutes of the last hour trying to figure out who is speaking.

Sigh! What a waste of time.

Oh, and it looks like the Repubs will NOT ALLOW a debate to start on Iraq today.

1. Sen. Lott on the floor makes a Repub funny!
He is trying to make a point about all the serious things that need to be talked about in the Senate and referecences a recent 'world economic conference' he was at. LOL! That is how Republicans talk about Davos. (Can't say DAvos. Only elitists go to Davos. Lott went to a 'world conference on Economics.")

What a bunch of hypocrites!

2. Of course,
but aren't the RW conflicted now. After all how was the very athletic Senator from MA skiing down the slopes AND speaking with middle easterner enemies just because he is Chair of the committee that deals with talks to more enemies than anyone else at the very same time.

4. I personally couldn't hold back the chuckles.
Going back and forth figuring out who is speaking because every time something seemed agreed upon, someone objected and everything went to hell. Twenty minutes of nothing while we should be having one of the most important debates in the Senate's history!!

11. Agree, Count.. blm has been a destructive operative to the Demo Party

as any Neocon in the book.. I could care less her SO works in a newsroom.. BFD!
Who cares! And I dismiss altogether anything she supports because she has been proven a liar time after time.
Her words mean SQUAT!

She has done unconscionable damage to the way things are done on this board.

She is gravely responsible for Kerry's failure to reorganize for a genuine presidential bid.
He believed her lies and was completely misled by her pedantic obsession with corruption.

Theres a word for that sickness, some type of phobia..or ism.. ???

10. Does BLM know that she singlehandedly sunk Kerry?
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 06:51 PM by karynnj
because he believed what she said on DU about his career? Because he didn't know it himself and because believed her. Did Newberry tell her this too?

(context: Tellurian is convinced that Bush via the Patriot acts 1 & 2 has changed the constitution and has a paper of Newberry's that supposedly says so. I am not intelligent enough to understand it.)

Edited to say I found who Sirling Newberry is. He guru, expert on constitutional law is by training ..... a computer programmer and composer. Now, some of my best friends fit that description, but I would not accept any of them as experts on Constitutional Law.
linK if really bored: http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/lydon/2003/10/27 His other claim to fame he was one of the draft Clark 2004 people.

It is kinda funny though, probably a Freudian slip. She'd probably be a better Secretary of Rice than Secretary of State.

Leave the U.S., move to Israel and run for Prime Minister. Golda Mier was born here too, after all...then we can get a Senator who will represent American interests first and foremost.

29. Not the same thing
Not that I agree with the idea, but I think that much of Liebermann's attitude is due to a blind spot in his support (not the right kind of support either IMHO) of Israel.

33. No, I disagree -- Lieberman's radical views are tied with the RIGHT WING
in Israel, and I think it's unfair to couch all of Israel in those terms. Israel is as diverse as here -- there are people on the left, right, and center there, too. No, Lieberman has aligned himself with the right wing in Israel who share a similar vision of war, war, war, and that's what it is about.

Read this entry about Lieberman on Digby, and you'll see the PROOF that it's about more than Israel:

http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_digbysblog_archive.html#117073402894370436

I watched a movie called "Jarhead" the other night, a film many of you have probably seen. It featured a scene where a bunch of young, stoked marines on the verge of being sent to the first Gulf War watch "Apocalypse Now." They jump up, pumping their fists at the scene in which the helicopters strafe the village, shouting at the screen, "kill that fucker!" It was a bizarre and uncomfortable scene for a civilian like me, but the story required that you recognize these young men were trained warriors who were being revved up to go to battle. These rituals have been played out in armies for millenia.

I couldn't help but think of that scene when I read this:

Lieberman likes expressions of American power. A few years ago, I was in a movie theatre in Washington when I noticed Lieberman and his wife, Hadassah, a few seats down. The film was “Behind Enemy Lines,” in which Owen Wilson plays a U.S. pilot shot down in Bosnia. Whenever the American military scored an onscreen hit, Lieberman pumped his fist and said, “Yeah!” and “All right!”

That is a 60ish US Senator from New England, not a 21 year old marine preparing to go to war. There's something very disturbing about that picture.

What does Bosnia have to do with Israel? Nothing. Lieberman's weird behavior is about American exceptionalism and using military might to force our views on other countries. Israel has a better defense, by the way, than America for this, since they are literally surrounded by enemies.

34. "right wing"
that's what I meant by "not the right kind of support", I did not have time to elaborate. I spent two years in Israel long time ago, and I know how diverse the attitudes over there are. The scene described in your quote, on the other hand, is quite disturbing, I may have to reconsider my perception of Lieberman.

30. I got home in time to see Hagel speak, and
then the vote.

I wish I knew more about senate rules - it's hard for me to believe that they can't schedule a discussion on Iraq policy with a simple majority. Of course, that's assuming Holy Joe votes with the dems. As he didn't yesterday, that's a big assumption.

However, interestingly, Norm Coleman did vote with the dems. Feeling the hot breath of Franken on the back of his neck, perhaps??
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00044

Susan Collins voted with the dems too. Holy Joe was the only defection for the dems.

Not Voting - 4
Johnson (D-SD)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Martinez (R-FL)
McCain (R-AZ)
