1. Kerry loses in all DU polls
and Clark wins all of them.

you shouldn't worry about DU polls or any online polls too much.

2. Please post a link
Although I'm very angry at Hillary today. Did you hear her and her stupid "religious kids don't get pregnant" bullshit? I'm probably over-amping what she said, but geezo, I'm so sick of that crap.

We can talk about reproductive resonsiblity without going the religious values abstinence route.

9. She was speaking so eloquently
Then all of a sudden it was like she swerved to avoid hitting a dog or something. She said we all know that kids with values and religious upbringing are more likely to practice abstinence and not become pregnant; and we should support that and bla bla.

:wow:

She should come to my town. My daughter's friends who got pregnant as teens. A fundy, 2 Catholics, and 1 girl who didn't go to church that I know of. So puhleeze. The one Catholic girl, her mother had a shitfit because I let the girls walk to the dept. store when they were 14. Literally, 5 blocks from my house in my teeny little town. She had some whacked out idea that people would think girls walking on the street were whores. So *I* was the bad parent. So now, her daughter was the one who was pregnant and not married and the mom is the one who has left her husband and is whoring all over town. :eyes:

And Hillary thinks she needs to listen to THEM???

(Kleeb, sweetie, I really really really want you to write a few paragraphs for our blog on your interning. YOUR name and everything! We made TPM yesterday!)

16. Here
"...And girls who give birth as teenagers face a long, uphill battle to economic self-sufficiency and pride. Clearly we do have our work cut out for us.

Research shows that the primary reason that teenage girls abstain is because of their religious and moral values. We should embrace this --and support programs that reinforce the idea that abstinence at a young age is not just the smart thing to do, it is the right thing to do..,"

http://clinton.senate.gov/~clinton/speeches/2005125A05.html

It isn't that I disagree that it's better for teens to wait to have sex, I just strenuously object to this religious nonsense or that this is the best way to encourage teens to wait.

18. That's really not true
and never has been. Even back when I was in high school, back in the Dark Ages, it was the Baptist fundy girls that were getting pregnant and having to drop out. Their church wouldn't let them dance, co-ed swim or do anything else for fun, so what else was left but the wild thing in the back seat of daddy's car?

25. My fundie sister's 17-yr-old has a 2-yr-old
And now she's headed into a Jesus Rehab Clinic (straight out of the movie "Saved") for a year because she's on meth....

Religious teens who are told lies about their bodies and their risks are far more likely to get pregnant than well-educated kids with access to condoms.

Period. (No pun intended.) ;)

17. OH HELL NO!
"Nice" religious girls don't get pregnant? Hillary, that's bullshit and you know it. What the fuck is up with her? I ignored her faith based programs comment, because I thought "Hey, she's a religious person". This is just too much though. It's just plain ignorant.

19. and this after a recent report
that abstinence-only classes tend to make the rate of sexual activity go UP in teens! Somebody get that KoolAid out of her hands!!

It's logical: fundy teens don't want to admit that they might have sex, so they take no precautions, and certainly couldn't ask their parents for the pill! So--sex and babies. It doesn't seem as bad to them if they didn't plan to do it! :(

20. First of all, I'm not voting in that silly poll.
Second, I still love Hillary Clinton. That does NOT mean I agree with her on everything. I think that was a stupid comment about religious kids not getting pregnant, but she is a good Senator. I did co-sponsor that bill she and and Boxer are trying to pass on Voting Rights.
I don't like the hating on Hillary on this thread. Yeah, she said something stupid, but come on now...

21. Her voting record stinks, Elshiva.
Check it out. She isn't a liberal. She would stab us in the back quicker than you could bink an eye. Please check out her votes. They are not good.I used to like her too, but this isn't a question a one vote it is many. There is a reason so many repugs get alond with her. I don't hate her and I hope she loosens up and is reelected to the Senate but I would NEVER vote for her for president.

24. 2008 will be interesting
Just had a conversation with a Republican friend. Long story, I'm going to write it up.

Anyway, he says this is the Republicans last chance for him. He doesn't know what he'll do in 2008, but if they blow it he's done. I said I don't know what I'm going to do either, if we run Hillary. And we both just sat there saying "wtf is going to happen to this country".

Nobody votes in 2008?

22. Voted
At the risk of seeming stupid - where do all these Clarkies come from? Do other Clark websites get alerted whenever there is a poll with Clark in it? Good grief. lol
As to Hillary, I've lost respect for her a while ago, and Bill shortly after that, when both of them started in with this faith-based garbage.
What utter nonsense to claim that religious and moral values keep teen girls from getting pregnant.
I grew up in Germany, where Catholicism is practiced in a much stricter fashion than here. In the US, Catholics are quite liberal compared to those back in Europe.
In my teenage days it seemed that most of the 'good, church-going, catholic' girls were sexually active, and NOT using birth control because they were either afraid to talk to their parents about taking the pill or too ashamed to purchase other forms of contraceptives.
(As an aside - in Germany parental permission was required for a contraceptive prescription if the young woman in question was under 18.)
