Comments from the Boston rally. :)

By Mason City 4 Obama Yesterday at 10:32 pm EST
John Kerry is amazing -- he seems more fired up for Barack's campaign than he was in his own campaign!

By Lulu Yesterday at 10:34 pm EST
I was JUST going to say/write the SAME thing!

By Andrea Yesterday at 10:35 pm EST
It's probably easier to say great things about someone else then to too your own horn.

By VTscrapper Yesterday at 10:38 pm EST
He's found his voice. Too bad it didn't happen four years ago.

By Mason City 4 Obama Yesterday at 10:40 pm EST
I know, I agree. I supported him in '04, but wasn't enthusastic about it.

However, I'm a big fan of Sen. Kerry now.

By Lulu Yesterday at 10:40 pm EST
This is the best Kerry has ever sounded! Like a young Teddy Kennedy.

By Andrea Yesterday at 10:41 pm EST
Everything happens for a reason. Think of it like this. If John Kerry had become president- perhaps we would not be discussing Barack Obama on the Eve of Super Tuesday.

By Monica Yesterday at 10:56 pm EST
Me too...I just didn't see that spirit in him during his campaign maybe the pressure was too heavy and now he can focus his full support to Obama and help us win in November!!!!

Thank you John Kerry, we love you and need you on this journey! God Bless You!

I've seen comments like that on DU last night.

Good these people have seen the light at last.

In passing, too bad that the media continue to be so negative: http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2008/02/kerryobama_full_circle.html (He still does not get it - The introduction order is just the order of precedence in MA: our 2 year governor, our 24 year junior senator, our 45 year senior senator, nothing that would be worthy of a grudge), not who is more important).

Some get it though :

3. Thanks - that is sweet
Those are great perceptive comments. While I think that a part of it was that the Kerry 2004 rallies were poorly covered, there really is something to Kerry's ability to write and deliver testimonials to others - while being unusually modest for a politician speaking of himself. I think also part of it was that one year to two years into a war that most Americans did not yet see as a disaster made talking of the war hard. He really had a delicate balance to walk there. He was speaking against a sitting President in a time of war.

It was also clear that he was not comfortable with that vote. He defended it in terms of purpose, but it never rung with the sincerity of almost everything else he said. But, I can see that the general election in 2004 would have been impossible had he voted the other way - we would have heard continuously of his anti-war protests, his fighting Reagan on the Contras (remember even Gore and Clinton did not see the Contras as bad guys), to reading antiwar poetry on the Senate floor before Gulf War I.

The comment that the pressure might have been too heavy is also likely. It is for everyone. Look at "tough as nails" Clinton who has again been near tears OVER THE RACE. Kerry had tears in his eyes when he conceded, but it was when he spoke of others and it was because Bush was still there. Remember Dean's various explosions or Bill Clinton's increasingly bad behavior.

4. I agree - It is really sad that there were nobody to play this role for Kerry in 04.
Dean and Clark tried, during the GE, but they were not well known enough.

5. True - Cleland and Kennedy was incredible in the primaries
A big difference is that the media was much faster to label Kerry as aloof and "not being able to connect". Maybe because they knew the threat he could be if people were really able to see him. (In quotes as those identical words had to have been said thousands of time - even though Kerry's biography could not work had that been the case. Even in the service, in Tour of Duty, it was mentioned that he got to extra assignments - one reading over the ship's intercom the naval stories he was writing and telling his people and listening to sailors reporting to other who needed someone out of their line of control to talk to - because it was seen that he was great with people.)

7. Of course
JK was wonderful and inspiring as always. But I have to also say that I get chills when Obama talks about his admiration for JK.

It is so genuine and sincere, and it feels so great to have him talking about the John Kerry everyone should have been talking about in '04. (Including the other candidate in this race.)

I just love seeing the two of them together. It is so healing and hopeful all at once.

8. I agree wholeheartedly
And I don't think I've seen Sen. Kerry smile this much in a long, long time.

Clearly he is happy, energetic, engaged in this race and having a wonderful time. That is also good for everyone to see. This man still has so much to contribute to this country.
