http://www.politickerma.com/jeremyjacobs/929/kerry-wrote-his-own-convention-speech-obama-camp-didn-t-vetBrigid O'Rourke, a spokeswoman for Kerry (D-Boston), told PolitickerMA.com Thursday that Kerry wrote the speech in its entirety and that there were no ghostwriters involved in the process. She also said that the speech was not vetted by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama or his campaign team. The speech only had to adhere to a time limit, O'Rourke said, and it was submitted directly to the teleprompter team.
I think this shows that the Obama campaign 100% trusts Kerry's judgment. I love that all these little details are coming out. It is also interesting that prior to Kerry's speech, many bloggers like Josh Marshall were criticizing the convention for not taking the attack to McCain enough. So then Kerry gives the speech and everyone loves it. But more importantly, they praise the Obama campaign and Democrats in general for a fantastic convention. Except .... it seems that Kerry did this on his own. I suppose he told them he would go after McCain, but they didn't read the finished product to make sure.
It is clear now that the Obama campaign has an extraordinary helper in Kerry. He is outside the campaign bubble and more in tune with both the Dem base (including the blogosphere) and the mood in the country. He's Obama's Ace surrogate, who not only does a great job delivering the goods, but
thinking up the goods in the first place. I think he will play a pivotal role in getting Obama elected, and nobody is necessarily going to realize it.
