1. Yeah, it pissed me off |

It's not even election season. What BS. * is the sitting "president", and as such, political jokes should be made at his expense. While I've always resented the Kerry-as-playboy meme, it seems especially cruel so late after the election. Like kicking someone who's down.

|
I agree, this s--t is getting kind of old. I heard Oprah nodded as if it was inappopriate. His humor was dry at times though.

what he actually said: "Oprah is so rich, that John Kerry was just seen proposing to her." Ok I have a sense of humor, but it was kind of a slam--"Kerry the gigalo"! :(

Really, Kerry is an easy punching bag for everyone. People love kicking others when they're down. I wonder if it's human nature.

There is a fine line between joking and mockery, and that crosses the line. There is no way JK would choose his companions based on how much money they had, much less his wife.

Kerry was using Teresa's money for his campaign and gaining an unfair advantage! Imagine that! What, are there no campaign finance laws?!? :grr:

|
During the campaign, I heard him joke about the fact that both his wives were much wealthier than him. If JK can laugh about it, then I doubt he'd get bent out of shape about Rock's comment. I was very glad to hear that he slammed *.

9. well, i didn't see anything bad about it since Chris WAS doing comedy |
|
and Kerry himself has joked about it also. it's better to get some things which are often talked or gossiped about out of the way just by making a joke about it.
Chris did a great job on going after Bush though.

10. Oh, It was only a joke. And it was mild compared to what he did to Bush. |
|
And Oprah didn't look pleased. He also ragged on some actors.Said Tim Robbins "bores us with his poltics" . So, what?

I see it as a problem because Kerry doesn't have an audience the magnitude of the Oscars to counter these insinuations. During the campaign the Republicans and some comedians used similar jokes to trash Kerry and Teresa personally and professionally at the same time. (Personally that he has so little integrity that he would marry Teresa just for her money. Professionally it diminishes him by transforming him from the very serious, productive workaholic, respected Senator to someone living on his charm and good looks. (except we are simultaneously suppose to believe that he is not charismatic, charming, good-looking or likable - so why exactly was the beautiful, intelligent, wealthy Teresa tricked into marrying him)
I may have simply read the wrong articles, but one thing that surprised me when people started posting all those lovely pictures of John and Teresa was that I hadn't seen those (or similar) pictures during the campaign. (I hadn't thought anything negative about that - just that it was consistent with all the comments of Kerry being shy, reserved and private.)
If at any time a comedian would have made jokes about Laura and George they would have been crucified. I just wish they would have extended a similar courtesy to the Kerrys.

14. at this point it's better just to laugh at it and joke about it as Kerry |
|
himself does.
and in addition to that they should just bring up what Kerry had done in his life. many people don't know he worked in a small business, or that he was a prosecutor, or the things he did as Senator.
we can't do much about what other people say but we can put out the truth ourselves. and that's what the Kerry campaign shoudl have done. they can't control the media and them talking about the swift boat assholes and other crap. but they could try to get out what Kerry himself had done in his life.

19. Generally speaking the majority of people who |
|
make up the audience of the Oscars both in the theatre, and at home are people who already support Kerry. Pick your battles. This is NOT a big deal. Every comedian, who has hosted the Oscars , starting with Hope, has skewered BOTH parties. I think asking for protection for Kerry is unfair. Don't you remember all the jokes about JFK's father buying the election for him but not wanting to spend enough for a landslide? This is political humour. And Kerry himself has made close to the same joke, not about Oprah, but has joked about marrying for money. He has also joked about his wife's money on the campaign trail. Lighten up please.

Your are totally right. Definite over reaction. Next time, I'll think before I type. Your point of skewering both parties is apt and choosing Kerry as the "victim" just means he's still relevant to Rock. It is better than a Swift boat joke or any other that could be done. I'm sorry

but I saw his bit on ** and LMAO. That was definitely a slam. As far as the joke on Kerry, I love JK. One of the things I like about him is his sense of humor. I would not worry too much about it. Part of being a public person is being the subject of jokes. That one was probably not too bad. Just my $.02.

21. I haven't found Chris Rock funny since he joked about Nicole Simpson |
|
He made a joke to the effect that even though OJ didn't kill her if he had it was because she was "asking for it." Driving around in his sports car w/ another man or something. Yes, that definitely is grounds for having your throat slashed to the spinal column.
Yes, violence against women is always funny.
