Kerry the foul-weather sailor
A little (gender neutral)"catnip" from an article by Evan Thomas, Newsweek, Aug.2, 2004:

"...Senator Kerry also has shown genuine integrity, even when no one was looking. He is at once an idealist and a pragmatist. If he doesn't fit in with the group, that's partly because he is self-reliant.
There is a certain kind of New England sailor who likes wind, rocks and tide, and not only because the martinis taste better at the end of the voyage. Kerry is a foul-weather sailor who exults in defying the elements and finding his own way. The key to understanding Kerry is to follow him as he navigates in the dark and fog."

This passage precedes a biography section on JK, part of a long cover story titled, "In Search of John Kerry". (I've been digging through old magazines at the library lately; subject matter like this is always current for me!) :)

2. I don't remember that article
I read every damn issue of Newsweek at work. I'm surprised I don't remember it.

4. I know
but there was nothing else to read at work except for the Enquirer and I went through those very early on. The Enquirer is quite amusing.

5. Newsweek can be really snarky
But this writer seemed to be more positive than some of the others. You have to pick and choose, and take the magazine with a grain of salt. Some articles are really slanted to the right, I agree!

WEL:

I thought you were on the Grand Tour of big Northeast Cities. (NYC, Philly, DC.)

Not that I'm not happy to hear from you Mrs K, just I assumed you were recupreating from a difficult mid-term season with some much earned R&R. What gives dearie?

9. Spring break's not for another couple of weeks
And I just had two exams today so I have a bit of time. I have an exam Wednesday and various things coming up here and there, so I can't promise how long I'll be around. Just woke up from a nap and now my head is all fuzzy.

It's good to see everybody!

10. WEL!
Hi, I had my appendix removed, whats up. Are you still planning to be in DC? I was thinking that we all could meet up possibly then because my friends may not be in town the day of the protest after all.

11. Hey Kleeb!
That sucks about your appendix! Hope you're all better now.

I'm actually going to DC for spring break but we have to leave early on Saturday, unfortunately, so I'll miss out. However, I'd still totally like to do a meetup this summer with everyone.

Hope you're feeling better Kleeb!

7. I remember that article
I didn't love it but there were parts I did like. (That quote being one of them. I though it was an apt description of JK:loveya:)
