He was a very interesting man with a profound effect on the world in the last century. As you said, may he rest in peace.

while i'm not Catholic he was the only pope in my lifetime (i was born about a couple months after he became pope). so i can understand how it might be difficult for those who are Catholics since for many, especially younger people he is the only pope they have known and develped a relationship with.

throughout his life, go check it out. It will make you smile and remind you of many of the wonderful things he did during his life. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3405254edit to add - a few rude comments but mostly very nice with great photos.

Go with God, Karol. You were a true servant of God and a dutiful shepherd of the flock to which you were entrusted. Your work here is done; go with the peace and grace of Christ.

a little bit ago, and found out. I am very sad to see him go, but he lived a long and rich life. I only hope the next Pope opens his arms to the world the way this one did.

I have been a Roman Catholic all my life and am very sad at the Pope's passing. He truly was 'the people's Pope'. May he rest in peace.

One may not agree with everything he did, but he did a lot of good in the world, working for peace and to end poverty.

10. He touched people of all faiths |

It's impressive to see how many Protestants and even non-Christians admire his legacy.

He wasn't the best pope on social issues but he reached out in many ways in regard to other religions, Ive seen folk say he set the church back, he actually set it forward in more ways than not.

Just got back from Wisconsin (a weekend without the internet...both heavenly and hellish :D). I hope there wasn't obnoxious bashing in the other forums.
I'm not Catholic and I certainly didn't agree with the Pope on many important issues--but that doesn't mean I don't respect the work he did for peace, speaking out against poverty and war, reaching out to the Jewish and Muslim faiths like no Pope had before...
May he rest in peace with his God, and may those who mourn be comforted.

I understand completely, he was wrong on many issues but no one should deny that he really cared about people. He also was an opponent of the excesses of captialism.
