John Kerry to speak at Faneuil Hall Sunday (League of Women Voters)
<The League of Women Voters celebrates making democracy work in Historic Faneuil Hall on April 10 at 2 p.m. Senator John Kerry is the keynote speaker and Pulitzer Prize Winning Columnist Ellen Goodman will conduct a question and answer session with the winners of the League's annual online student essay contest.

"This will be a spectacular event," according to an announcement by Madhu Sridhar, President of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts. "To have Senator John Kerry as keynote speaker and award winning columnist, Ellen Goodman, featured will give everyone a unique opportunity to hear two opinion makers and leaders discuss the issue of how we make democracy work.">

1. Wow! And it's free
Okay, I'm there. I can get the train out of Lowell (where it would have cost me $100 to see him and where he is due at 3:00 for a fundraiser for Marty Meehan. I hope Marty knows JK is going to be late. No wonder they called a 3:00 in the afternoon speech, 'An Evening with John Kerry.')

Whome, Rox, wanna go? We can take pics and notes and share with the Kerrycrats when we get back. I am so there.

(This will be bitter and sweet. Faneuil Hall, hmmmm, bitter and sweet.)

3. I am such a sucker for Americana things like this
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 08:19 PM by TayTay
My nephew made Eagle Scout in January and I just loved the whole corny ceremony. (It took three hours.) My nephew got letters of congratulation from his state rep, his state senator, his US House Rep and his US Senators, Kennedy and that other guy. They brought in flags and ribbons and I loved the whole thing.

This sounds like fun. Kids reading their winning essays. About what went wrong in the last Presidential election. Hmmm. With John Kerry as featured speaker. (Oh dear.) And in Faneuil Hall. Ah, well, ahm, I bet he can't wait. (Okay, this is a little unsettling. AHm, Do the math, people.)

Have I told you lately that I just love Massachusetts. We are one tough, tough crowd. Good for Sen. Kerry for doing this. But, ahm, geez, it also is just a wee bit funny. (Sorry, but it is.)

4. i know what you mean but i will be interested in hearing what happens
although i htink the focus is on kids or younger people so it might not be so "intense".

if you go i hope you do get some pics. i would love to see them.

5. Oh, I'm going
I would be an ingrate before the Powers That Be if I don't go to this one. Maybe he will speak about what it was like to be in Rome. And I will have my digital camera and will post pics as soon as I get home. Should be fun!

I'm sorry about the humor. But it just struck me as funny. Every time I see one of these touching Americana moments, even if they do have their slightly odd side, I am just impressed with Kerry. I LOVE, love, love that he does these things. They are so down-to-earth and sweet. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Honestly, I am touched. :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: Oh, that is so sweet.

6. i love it also since it's so real with him also
he is a real sentimental affectionate guy despite what some say. you can see it when he is around people . he is a really touchy feely type guy who loves hugs and kisses.

i remember watching him at some event honoring veterans and him getting teary eyed.

you can tell he is really proud and happy for the people and just wants to thank them.

7. You lucky girl!
I'm looking forward to your report and pictures. If I were somewhere in the USA, I would come, that's for sure. But as I live in Europe... no chance! *sigh*

We want a FULL, detailed report. With pictures. Tell him we all said hi and that we love him! :loveya:

I swear if I weren't going away for the w/e with the hubbie (Romantic Inn and all) I'd make the trip up to Boston for the day.

10. Sounds great,
but my son is going to be up this weekend, so I'm afraid I won't be able to get to this one. Take tons of pictures for us! We are starving for new Kerry pictures. ;-)

11. This is a definite for me
I am going to the League of Women Voters event tomorrow at Faneuil Hall. It should be great. The weather is supposed to produce a soft spring day, with lovely blue skies and temps near 60. I will take my digital camera and see if I can get some decent pics.

I will also take my pocket tape recorder. Let me see what I can transcribe tomorrow night. I am looking forward to this. I haven't hung out at Quincy Market since that time a few years ago when the JFK Carrier came in and the Navy took over the area. Ahm, my daughter was with me at the time and kids definitely do not appreciate the finer points of life like seeing all those nice Navy people in summer dress whites walking around Boston. Sigh, kids!

This sounds like a fun event. I am hoping that Kerry talks about his trip to Rome and about current issues. Then I will go have a cookie.

12. Mass said Teresa
Mass posted that Teresa was going to speak for John because he ended up double booked. I don't know if that's true or not, but thought I'd share that with you if it makes any difference in your plans.

13. I thought as much

because the Senator is scheduled to speak at a fundraiser for US Rep Marty Meehan (who's my Rep, btw) on Sunday between 3-5.

So, the lovely and talented Teresa it is. And a fine spring day, and some browsing at Quincy Market and some fine upstanding speeches by kids and so forth. Sounds like a lovely use of my time. (And cookies.) Teresa is a wonderful speaker, it's free and I shall have to wait to see her handsome hubby until May. (Oh woe is me, not)
