Derriacs: what's the matter with Dean's smile in this picture?

I've seen him do this before. He did it to Tim Russert. It's like his "insert smile here" smile, as opposed to the fairly genuine one I see in my sig picture. Ever since I saw him do that on MTP, I've wondered.

What does that mean? He's tired? He doesn't like who he's with? He's smiling when he doesn't feel like it? Is it his "politician smile"?

No offense to Dean. Maybe I'm trying to read more into facial expressions than I should, and this might be the wrong way to try and get to know him.

I'm nuts, right. G'head, say it. It's not like I don't already know.

2. No it doesn't
He looks dyspeptic. Maybe he had eaten something that didn't agree with him. That can happen to the best of us. Maybe it's a placeholder smile, as you suggested.

3. Getting my picture took smile
He has a goofy smile at times. I've never noticed it connected to anything in particular, except maybe the posed smile that I think everybody has. Some just pull it off better than others.

4. you can't tell anything from one picture
I mean, maybe he did smile bigger two seconds after the picture was taken. I find that with my family pictures--video shows things a lot more realistically than one still shot.

And maybe study what he's said about Clark (?)

5. It's just not a good photograph.
Probably caught a bit off guard it looks to me. I don't think he has anything against Clark.

6. Yeah, I was reading too much into it, I think
I think somebody pegged it when they said it was his like a school picture smile.

7. Yep, also there are a lot of silly photographs taken
of politicians esp. of Dean.
