News Interview with Alexandra Kerry

Kerry's daughter speaks

by Ellie Behling
Culture Senior Writer
ellen.behling@ohiou.edu

The daughter of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., feels nostalgic when she thinks about 2004, she said last night in Baker Ballroom.

The year had two stories: one of politics, and one of human relations, Alexandra Kerry said. Kerry focused on many aspects of the humanity behind the scenes of the campaign, beginning by reading a passage from the book she is writing about growing up as the daughter of a politician.

Her father brought home politics "like the baker brings home the extra bread," she said. Growing up, Kerry vowed she would not continue on the path of politics.

Kerry refers to herself as an "accidental politician." Her father never forced her and her sister, Vanesssa, to be a part of the campaign. "He really left it up to us."

Thanks! I loved this: "her alias was Alice in Chains."

What a normal girl she is.

2. Great find!
Thanks so much! I can't wait to see the documentary and read the book - Alex is such an articulate person, and I'm sure they'll both be great.

3. I'm so glad that she is responding artistically
I would love to read a book from her. She strikes me as a qonderful and insightful person who had some unique ideas about what campaigns are like. Plus, she certainly has a great front seat to report back on what it all was like.

4. She seems to have an unusual sense of humor
I can't wait to read her book. I bet we will find it the best un-biased look at the campaign. :) Although, I wonder if her dad is somewhat nervous about how he will be described in it.

10. I really don't know . . .
Sometimes that site is funny and it's hard to get into - try again later, and it should work. Or, just go to gettyimages.com and do a search for Alexandra Kerry, because these were among the first few pics. (I'm not sure why the pics wouldn't post on the board - I think they might have been in the wrong format.)

6. Is anyone torn?
....torn between Alex and Vanessa as their favorite Kerry daughter? hehe. Personally, I can't choose. They are very lovely girls in my opinion, really classy, and excellent speakers.

:dem: Way to go Kerry daughters. Keep up the good fight, even after the elections over.

7. Yes, I'm torn.
They both seem like really nice, intelligent girls. I saw them twice on Larry King, and they were awesome.

11. They really are both awsome
I loved the rallies on C-SPAN when either one (or both) of them were with Kerry.

12. Me too....
Edited on Wed May-11-05 07:24 PM by Kerry2008
My favorite was one at a University of some sort I saw on C-Span before the Debates, and it was Chris Heinz, Edward's daughter (can't think of her name off the top of my head), and the Kerry daughters. The Kerry daughters spoke very well, and knew exactly what their father stood for and his plans. The Edward daughter seemed stumped sometimes, but Kerry's daughters were right on the money.

13. I would really love to read Alexandra's book!
Honestly! I think those two women are wonderful because they seem so normal and independant of their Dad. I would be fascinted to read how they were brought up, what their life was like, how their parents managed to raise them so well despite all the pressures they were under.

I wonder if she has a publication date. My guess would probably Christmas.
