I think the shitstorm I anticipated has started.
Damn. This is going to be brutal. I predict it will last in full vehemence until around Jan 20th.

I liked JK's letter. I thought it was great. I called Frist and Hastert's office, but I didn't get through (yet.) When the other shoe drops this weekend and the general DU crowd sees that Kerry is overserving Palestianian elections, it's going to get murky in here. I think I'll stay nice and warm and dry and hang out with you guys (and dream LLL dreams.)

What say you all?

of "Tension Tamer" tea. That, and staying out of the other forums, will get me through the weekend.

I'm a "Sleepytime" lady, myself. Also got lots o' Calms Forte in stock.

Honestly, I'm cowering in here. The vitriol is too much. Anyone here watch South Park?

"Oooh, my freakin' ears!!!"

I LOVED the letter. Saw very clearly what he was saying. Are these people idiots or do they just insist on misinterpreting everything Kerry does?

everything. Whatever happened to reading what is written--or is that passe. They are just looking for something to jump on. If they can scapegoat someone, they think they will feel better. Well, the only goat that needs that is the guy with the SMIRK.

By the way, Mandarin Orange Spice tea for me, thankyouverymuch!

Sorry for the spelling errors.

3. It has been a major shitstorm for a long time now.
Most of these idiots here at DU lost it a long time ago. Hell some have been that way ever since I joined. Thats why I stay here in the John Kerry forum. I don't even fool with the dumbasses in the other forums its like talking to a block wall. They are truly that blind and that stupid. You can tell their brains are no bigger than a fleas, and trust me with dumbasses like these their bark is worse than there bite, there opinions are as worthless as tits on a boar hog, and when reality sets in they will run like chikens with their heads cut off. So I say leave them along, let them sniff and scratch each others ass, because wether they know it or not momma Teresa has their head on the chopping block and big bad Johnny is on his way with the ax to do the honors of chopping them off!

I like THAT image.

It's pretty discouraging when even the sane dems (Will Pitt, Bradblog Brad) are talking dirt. Is it some kind of macho thing? My husband voted for Kerry and hates * with a passion, but we can't discuss the election at all. He just has to blame Kerry for everything that went wrong, and I won't listen to him do it.

BTW, we've been happily married for 27 years, so don't worry. But it does drive me nuts.

13. yeah--

What makes me so mad at these creeps is that they expect to be told everything before they lift a little finger. When you are in a war, and one of the enlisted troops, you don't know everything the brass knows! You are expected to do your part and let the officers take care of winning the war for all. And this is certainly a war--a war for democracy in America.

6. Hi everyone...
as you can see I'm a newbie and I'd like to ask a couple questions. Who are all those people who post the same crap over & over again, and can you say their name. I don't see anyone calling them on their stuff unless they get tombstoned. Second big question is how do you link things in your posts? I tried once to copy and paste and didn't fair well. And thirdly I was late getting to the Sen Boxer phone-fest, and only got to leave a message on one of the CA-lines. What time does the shin-dig start tomorrow and can I call in the am? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

10. Glad you liked his letter, TayTay.
I was a bit disappointed by your posts about having "illusions" that the election can be overturned. I respect your opinion, but speaking for myself, I am under no illusions.

We Believers are a rare strain of Democraticus Stubbornus who are believing in the face of absurd odds and apparent reality. If we don't beat those odds, I am not going to collapse into a heap and slit my wrists, I am going to keep fighting. But giving up the fight before it's over isn't my style, and I don't think it's Kerry's either, regardless of what some of the naysayers (not you!) out there in Election 2004 are spewing.

Belief is predicated on hope, and it is hope that keeps me going.

26. I think I'm over it
I have been involved in painful election losses before. (I undoubtedly will be again.) It completely and totally sucks to lose. (Cue rollng up into a fetal position for awhile.)

But we lost. To think otherwise, in the legal sense, is to kid ourselves and it delays the absolutely necessary cool look back at what went right and what went wrong. (The other forums concentrate excessively on what went wrong. This is as useless as concentrating on what went right and ignoring all else.) There is an old saying that 'Every victory contains the seeds of defeat, as every defeat contains the seeds of vctory.' We need to examine the seeds and see where we go from here.

The Kerry bashing is a waste of time as well as insulting to a considerable segment of the Dem population that will vote again and might instinctively vote nay against anyone the vitriol flingers put forth, just for spite. (This happens when healing is incomplete and leaves broken bones improperly set and so forth.)

The illusions I tried to speak to are about today's action. There is nothing that can be done to change the outcome of this election. It is over. We fought the good fight and lost. We will probably (not sure of this, actually) fight the good fight again in 2008 and we intend to win. (We also intend to pound the fricking brains out of the opposition in 2006 as well, but I digress.) The 2004 election is over and nothing is going to change the outcome.

Election fraud is another issue that absolutely must be addressed. We, as Democrats have to keep faith with our own constituencies about this and raise hell in order to make sure that fraud does not occur again. (There is no legal way to overturn the election under the present rule of law.) Rethuglicans are vulmerable on this, as it cuts against Americans very important core value of fairness and respect for democratic principle. It is an issue that is important on it's own, regardless of whose name is on the ballot. Fraud must be dealt with in the criminal justice system, because it is a major crime. And it must be brought to the attention of the American people, who are the defrauded party in this crime.

This requires both patience and building an overwhelming case that will compel media attention and the attention of the American people. We cannot affect lasting change without public support. To do that, we must make cogent, precise arguments that lay out an overwhelming case that fraud happened and that this fraud hurts, not John Kerry, but the American rule of law. That is what I meant.

27. Geez, I sound like a lawyer!
Hmmm, I seem to have uncovered a flaw in my ability to communicate. I sometimes write like a lawyer. My default mode seems to be that I fall back to small, closely argued points, devoid of emotion and somewhat stilted. Hmmm, I think I'll go hang out in an LLL thread for awhile and recover my sense of humor.

Sorry about that. I wonder if that is my MA wonk side re-asserting it's smug self. I shall endeavor to, ahm, I will make every effort to, (talk plainly woman, for gawd's sake) I'll stop now.

Anybody got a floatie heart for me? I'm feeling somewhat accessible and at risk of reavealing vulnerabilities at the moment. (arrrrggghhhhhh!)

I'm a very precise writer when I am trying to make a Serious Point. You just wouldn't know because post election, I've largely given up on Serious Points in favor of Naughty Fun. The last Serious Point I made was in the "WTF is with Clinton" thread, if you'd like to go there and reassure yourself that yes, even bumpkins from the Heartland can write like lawyers.

I'm still trying to stretch myself out of fetal position, myself. I've been through painful losses before, but none that compared to this one. It's hard to get back to blogging, it's hard to think about the future. But right now this is what I think is really important:

1. Election reform

2. Equality in the media wars. Without the airtime we get nowhere. I found it incredibly frustraing during the election to hear all the complaining about Kerry's "message not getting out". Good lord.

20. It just was obvious over at Kos,
less obvious here to me, that the angriest, meanest, most Kerry-loathing dems are the Deaniacs. I know there was a regional rivalry but it has amazed me how much bad blood there is - and has been all along.

What was also always clear to me was that Kerry is by far the most progressive candidate I've ever had the opportunity to vote for for president - and my first vote was for McGovern. I used to live in VT and I know Dean some. In fact he used to be my mother-in-law's doctor (she found his bedside manner wanting.)

Aside from the fact that the Deaniacs seemed to see things in Dean that weren't there - and apparently still do - they also felt the need to insult my senator and my candidate, a sign of very poor judgement in my opinion ;-). And hand the repukes ammo they didn't need to get for free.

I'm rambling - it's late, and I need to get some sleep. I'm going to hope to dream of the day yet to come when dems really stand together and Deaniacs stop acting like selfish brats.

31. There is residual bad blood
Campaigns are so intense and it is very hard to try to beat someone without incurring bad blood. The Dean campaign and the Kerry campaign had a lot of sniping going on. The Kerry people didn't really like the Dean people and found their messianic vision of Gov Dean pretty hard to choke down. For awhile there it seemed as if the Deaniacs thought Howard decended from the Mt. Olympus of Burlington, Vt with a group of tablets written in God's own hand that would set the Democrats free and deliver Ohio. (Cue the Hallelujah Chorus!)

Ahm, the Kerry people had the audacity to keep campaigning and to (blasphemers) run ads against the Appointed of Gawd, ahm, I mean Dr. Dean. (The bastards. I mean it's like they actually thought they had their own campaign to run and that the purpose of this campaign was to defeat the divinely inspired Dr. Dean and grab the Dem nomination. How could they?) The Dean people disdained the Kerry people. (He's just a Senator, he voted for the war, he has fallen from grace, like one of Lucifer's own discarded angels.) The Dean people lost, which is unacceptable because they had Truth, Justice and the Divine Right of Princelings on their side, so somebody fucked up bigtime. (Can't be the candidate, cuz he's nearly perfect, of course.) Look for the Judas.

The Kerry people didn't care for the Dean people and found them incompetent. The Deaniacs ran a flawed campaign and their candidate lost badly. (Again, I think Kerry tried to win, like, on purpose. This is just so unacceptable to Deaniacs.) There was an article about all the bad blood in the Boston Glob earlier this year. (The Kerry people called Dean The Big Ho-Ho. The Deaniacs were portrayed as cultists.) And there you go, campaigns engender bad feelings. Apparently, get over it has not yet had the desired effect. And so it goes.

38. What a great summation!
Love it. So, I have one more grievance to add, and this time it's personal.

My daughter was in Manchester (NH) working on the campaign for a weekend early last January. She had all her stuff in her friend's car (which was festooned with Kerry stickers) in the parking lot. The Manchester HQ was in a giant converted factory building, and the Dean HQ was on the other side of the same building.

When they came out after the first day of work, her friend's car had been broken into and my daughter's entire bag of stuff had been stolen. Evidently this was not the first time such a thing had happened, and all the Kerry kids blamed the Dean kids. I don't know all the history, but I guess there was some supporting evidence.

I know there was also a lot of sign-removal going on on the part of the Dean camp. The Kerry kids were always a more straight-arrow cleancut group.

That was one tough campaign to get through. The media sucked all the oxygen out of the Kerry campaign from May 03 to Dec 03. Kerry really showed that he has fortitude to stick it out and then win.

I don't hate Dr. Dean. But man oh man was there ever bad blood. And two New Englanders. Who would have thunk it.

The weathermen always get so bent out of shape about stuff. They are the true drama queens. I used to live in Vermont, and once drove across the state in a blizzard to get to my best friend's wedding. I had her gown (made it for her wedding present - ah, we were such hippies :hippie:) so I had to get there.
