I've been doing random things and mostly lurking this week, but I am constantly reminded why I love the Kerry forum. You people are all so INTELLIGENT, it's astonishing. I think this group is the single best collection of intelligent, critical thinkers, as well as rational pragmatic Dems, on the entirety of DU - maybe even of all the internets. And that's certainly not to say that there isn't passion, enthusiasm, and idealism to spare here. I adore reading the discussions on this forum, because everyone here is so mature and thoughful. So many profound posts, and stimulating debate that never dissolves into flaming or rancor.
If a candidate can be judged by the quality of his supporters, John Kerry is a very fine man indeed.

My love for John Kerry brought me here, but it's all of you who keep me coming back.
:grouphug:
On edit: I've thought, as well, that it is a tribute to John that his supporters are so intelligent, reasonable, and thoughtful. I'm convinced it's no accident.

So often I read your posts and think that I could have written them myself: it would get really repetitive if I said so everytime, but it's true! (Being only two weeks apart in age doubtless has something to do with that! :) ) Same goes for a lot of you others, too--I won't try listing all of you, for fear of leaving someone out. Kerrycrats do have something in common besides JK, it seems --a similar worldview, you might say. We do tend to be reasonable and thoughtful most of the time! And that makes for a safe place to discuss. I value this group so much, because I don't know anyone in real life who likes to talk politics for more than, say, five minutes...:( So this group is an invaluable outlet--thanks, everyone!

We certainly share the same historical perspective, but it's more than that. I very often have that same experience when I read your posts. It's quite amazing. And comforting.

I just went into a Kerry thread in GD, although there were many good replies, there is always the potty mentality posts. Those make me sick, and I can only imagine where they are coming from with their idiotic remarks.
John Kerry is a common sense man and this is a common sense forum. Luv it.

3. I absolutely agree. This forum rocks! |
|
We can have "real " discussions even when we don't agree! And sometimes we even learn something and alter our preconceptions! What a concept!

like friends. Even when we disagree about an issue (which usually involves details rather than the issue itself), Everyone has respect for one another. This forum is unique that way. And as long as we're shamelessly praising one another...to those who do and have done such a huge volume of research to post here, thank you so much. You know who you are. And so do the rest of us.;-) We love you for it.

5. We have a good role model. |
|
We Kerrycrats admire him for his cool, rational, intellectual approach to problems, as well as his ideals and principles, dignity and heart. So maybe it rubs off!
Which came first, the Kerrycrat or the Kerry? LOL--I mean, do we take inspiration from him, or do we "dig" him because we already have the same worldview? OR maybe both! Each reinforces the other!

Just thought I'd pop in and share that. I miss hanging out here. Even though I rarely post, I always browse through the threads here. It is nice to see how this forum has grown.

I think I've finally managed to wean myself of GD and GDP lurking, only going there to see good threads (as opposed to bashing threads) linked from here. I haven't been on DU as much lately, because of some high-stress issues that I've had to deal with, but this forum is still a very pleasant way to relax at night. Thanks for rocking so hard! ;) :D

12. I almost totally agree (I love the JK forum), but... |
|
then there's my presence. Uh, sometimes, I snap. Can't claim everything I've posted on DU is exactly the most mature stuff you're ever going to read anywhere. Especially if you factor in the entirety of the Internet. Actually, after last week, when I'd had it up to HERE with GD and LBN craziness, irrationality, misogyny and stupidity, I went all nutty and posted some things I now regret. Some of which were deleted. I think I've definitely kept it under control in here, though. I think.

Kind of like "they're the most lying, corrupt bunch..."
We all snap, on occasion. Maybe that's a Kerrycrat trait too! :)

This is such a diverse and fascinating group.
Now, the Star-Bellied Sneetches had bellies with stars. The Plain-Belly Sneetches had none upon thars.
Those stars weren’t so big. They were really so small You might think such a thing wouldn’t matter at all.
But, because they had stars, all the Star-Belly Sneetches Would brag, “We’re the best kind of Sneetch on the beaches.” With their snoots in the air, they would sniff and they’d snort “We’ll have nothing to do with the Plain-Belly sort!” And, whenever they met some, when they were out walking, They’d hike right on past them without even talking.
When the Star-Belly children went out to play ball, Could a Plain Belly get in the game? Not at all. You only could play if your bellies had stars And the Plain-Belly children had none upon thars.
When the Star Belly Sneetches had frankfurter roasts Or picnics or parties or marshmallow toasts, They never invited the Plain-Belly Sneetches They left them out cold, in the dark of the beaches. They kept them away. Never let them come near. And that’s how they treated them year after year.
Damn, this sounds like DU sometimes. We can't get any respect. The Kerry supporters were left out cold on the beaches. So it's nice to know that we all got together, decided the star-bellied thing was a freeper regressive fascist plot and formed our own beaches (that are open to all, of course.) I like it. And I like the rest of you too. You rock!
But McBean was quite wrong. I’m quite happy to say. That the Sneetches got really quite smart on that day. The day they decided that Sneetches are Sneetches. And no kind of Sneetch is the best on the beaches. That day, all the Sneetches forgot about stars and whether They had one, or not, upon thars.
Dr. Seuss was a good Democrat (and a Massachusetts native. Of course, how could it be otherwise. Look at those values.)
