I think they really like him: Foo Fighters CD review
CD REVIEWS AND MUSIC: DEFENDING HIS HONOUR

GAVIN MARTIN

Source: THE MIRROR
Date: June 10, 2005

When the drummer from the then recently deceased Kurt Cobain's band Nirvana
announced he was forming a band, critics sneered. They called Dave Grohl the
Grunge Ringo and said his career as a frontman would be short-lived.

Ten years later, Grohl, brandishing a guitar rather than drumsticks, is five
albums into a successful career that shows no sign of fading. If he wasn't such
a nice guy he would probably have his middle finger permanently raised.

This half-acoustic, half-electric double CD is the most ambitious Foo Fighters
release to date, but it's a strictly a black and white experience.

Whether rocking like a beast or showing his tender side, Grohl can't shake his
nice, but slightly dull, persona. Disc One is Dave's full-rocking battle cry,
partly inspired by his time on John Kerry's campaign trail. The opening title
track begins like a cavalry gathering on the hillside with Dave the
raw-throated warrior delivering his pre-battle pledge - "Mine is yours and yours
is mine/In your honour I would die tonight".

Wow! Now that's devotion. I think they liked JK. I really do.

1. Can't say I've ever heard this band,
but I'm tempted to buy this CD. This today, Spielberg yesterday...nice.

BTW, I see the Herald managed to slam Spielberg today. http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/starTracks/view.bg?articleid=88818

So predictable.

2. This is perfect for a point I want to make in GD......
Kerry's supporters never got the media play that other candidate supporters did. I believe it's intentionally done by the media to try to keep kicking Kerry down.

4. I believe it's intentional too.
Absolutely. The media had its assignment - to make Kerry into a cartoon in order to give * a chance to win. And with all that, he didn't even win. Even with all he was up against, Kerry shone through.

Imagine if the media had given him even the tiniest of breaks. And yet some "dems" are still trashing him, lapping up all the rovian talking points. Imagine if Dean had been on the receiving end of even half of what they hit Kerry with.

I admire Kerry's grit beyond words.

Dave Grohl: Grohl with it
As rock bands go, Foo Fighters have got the lot. Impeccable credibility, earth-shaking tunes and one of the most engaging frontmen in the business. Craig McLean meets Dave Grohl

...The inspiration for the title track and scorching first single, "Best Of You", came last summer. Grohl went on the campaign trail with Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry, in part stung to action by the Bush campaign's use of Foo Fighters' "Times Like These" (from their Grammy Award-winning last album One By One).

"I've never been an outwardly political person. I'd always voted, I've always been active in my community. But I've never had it make its way into the music. But I was in John Kerry's motorcade, and we went from town to town through middle America. I would play acoustic shows at these rallies, and nobody knew who I was. What inspired me most wasn't necessarily political. It was the strength of community and human will. Seeing so many people come out because they either desperately needed to be rescued or they genuinely wanted change. It really hit me. I'd never been so deeply involved in something so important. It was unbelievably inspirational."
