Well isn't THIS special...
Not strictly JK-related, but good god.

Healey said to win Romney pledge

Would get his backing if he doesn't run in '06

...Healey secured the governor's promise of an endorsement after a series of private conversations between the two elected officials earlier this year, the two sources said. It was one of several aggressive steps Healey has taken to position herself as the potential front-runner for the Republican Party's nomination for governor next year.

In the last few months, Healey nailed down the exclusive services of a sought-after GOP strategist, a polling firm that served the last four governors, and three key Republican fund-raisers, according to interviews with a half-dozen GOP strategists and party officials. She has also spent tens of thousands of dollars on direct mail, consultants, and a public opinion poll, campaign finance records show, sending strong signals to the Republican establishment that she is already running to succeed Romney if he chooses not to run for reelection.

Healey's moves are the strongest sign yet that some top Republicans in Massachusetts are not waiting for Romney to announce his political plans, but acting on the assumption that he will not run for reelection. Romney insists he has not made up his mind whether to run for reelection in 2006 or run for president in 2008. His advisers have said he will make that decision this fall...

1. OMG! Just when you think it can't get any worse
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 10:59 AM by TayTay
Ken is leaving the building and Barbie has to stay behind. This is a gift from the gods because I have been just a tolerant, sweet, cute and mild-mannered little Dem. (Thank you Powers That Be! I'm loving this.)

Kerry Healy, MA Lt. Gov. (You know we had a Lt. Gov. once that was truly great, but he got a promotion. Sigh!) Ms. Healy gives bubble-headed women everywhere a role model that can look up to in times of crisis. (When Macy's doesn't have that new shoe they wanted, when the maid takes her yearly sick day, when the dealership only has that Lexis in cream and not silver, all those high stress things.)

I have watched Ms. Healy, on several occasions, attempt to tell a simple joke. She hired professional joke writers, obviously rehearsed and rehearsed her big moment and then flubbed it. She is a pitiful excuse for a politician and is without brains, experience, a feel for working people or any semblance of executive talent. (Hmm, a perfect Rethug candidate.)

This is going to be fun. I think I am finally beginning to transition into fighting mode again. I love this.

2. Almost spit coffee
all over my keyboard when I read this. I thought Jane Swift was bad, but Kerry Healey leaves her in the dust for vapidity, inexperience, and general lack of appeal.

Some day the gods are kind.

4. I have two dream debates. (One I can't have, I know)
That dream debate would be Sen.John Kerry against Sen. George Allen. (Oh dear Gawd in heaven, I would do anything for this. Please, please, please. Come on, they are both on Foreign Relations and Commerce. There must be a way for a debate to happen. Kerry talks about Free Trade, the budget and what can realistically done about the War in Iraq. George Allen looks around for his BestBuddy Sen. Wyden and then yells 'Nanotechnology' and 'Virginia is the Silicon Dominion.' Sigh. Allen's people would never let this happen.)

My other dream debate is Healey against anyone who has graduated 5th grade. I will go to this debate, somehow, someway, someform. This would be just too good to miss.

5. So, I've been thinking for some time
that Mittens hates being governor, and didn't plan to run again anyway. Does this seal it, do you think?? Yeah, I read what Fernstrom said.

The funniest part of this whole story is to think about the actual heft any Mittens endorsement might have on the electorate. Oh yeah. His stock could not be any lower, could it? Well, I guess if he went around kicking puppies it could...

6. It could happen, but probably won't
Allen's name has been tossed around as a possible rethug prez candidate in 2008. So it's possible, but not likely.

7. SOS if she becomes governor
Let's hope that the three on the other sides will come together quickly after the primary and that the Deaniacs who have decided to support Deval Patrick will understand the need to rallye behind Reilly if he is the nominee and vice-versa, because the last thing Massachusetts needs is her in the pilot seat.

8. Could not agree more.
I haven't decided who I'm supporting yet (leaning Reilly, looking at Patrick), but the Patrick people are giving off a kind of Deaniac vibe that's putting me off. Nothing against him. I don't know enough about him to judge yet.

9. I heard Patrick speak and like him more than Reilly
(though none of them really attracts me) but I agree with the Deaniac vibes.

10. Me too!
I heard all three guys at the Dem Convention and Patrick was brilliant. But he has to answer a few questions:

Will you stick around. Say a Dem is elected Pres in '08 (it could happen.) and they offer you a Cabinet post. Are you leaving MA in the lurch again or are you going to stick around. (It's a fair question since Patrick is another Gov candidate from out-of-state.)

How liberal are you? We don't want to frighten off the business community, we want to work with them to solve problems.

12. I don't think so
He did give an interview in which he said he was bored in Congress and had more to do in one hour as Somerville Mayor than he has had to do in the last two years of a Rethug Congress.

Boredom is still not the best reason to run for Gov.
