Now I know why you all can't stand Santorum
I saw him speak for the first time in an interview on This Week this morning. He's really quite clueless, isn't he? He was no match for Stephanopoulis. He had these blanket assertions that he could not back up, whereas Steph had done his homework and had all the facts to throw at the hapless Santorum. How did he ever get to be a U.S. Senator? Who was he running against, a cantaloupe?

1. I watched it too
He was sad, Steph had him pinned down good, best HARDBALL interview I've seen in a long time. He disgusts me and using my religion (Catholic) as a political tool, which in my book is sacrilegious.

2. Running against a cantaloupe!
Too funny. He is quite clueless isn't he? I saw him on The Daily Show the other night and the best he could do was to keep repeating two or three talking points over and over again. (Actually it was more like talking point.) He seems to think life was so grand in the 40's and 50's but what he doesn't seem to realize is that a lot of same crap was going on in families then, but people just didn't talk about it. (Not to mention of course, all of the social discrimination issues of that era.) Even the jokes that Jon told that night went right over Santorum's head. How did he ever get elected?

3. Kerry's and Kennedy's answers to Santorum
I think we can be happy that Santorum is unable to articulate an opinion. because I found Steph once again totally able to do his own job. But this is not the first time this happens. Rather than getting glued into these questions, why did Steph not ask how voting for CAFTA was being a good christian.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2005/08/01/santorum_blasts_mass_senators_over_church_scandal/

Kennedy and Kerry blasted Santorum's comments in statements issued by their aides. Santorum's comments yesterday escalated the controversy about a 2002 article he wrote saying it was ''no surprise" that the abuse scandal occurred in what he called the liberal bastion of Boston.

''Senator Santorum's partisan, hate-filled comments do a disservice to the victims of abuse," said Kerry spokeswoman April Boyd. ''He's never failed to inject politics into these deeply personal and trying issues for Catholics everywhere. He owes an apology to the families of abuse victims and to the faithful who fill the pews of Massachusetts churches every Sunday."

Kennedy spokeswoman Laura Capps said of Santorum: ''First, he blames the people of Boston, and now he blames the senators from Massachusetts. When is he going to realize that while attempting to score political points, he causes further damage to the thousands of families across the country who have suffered enough from these tragic crimes?"

The spokeswomen for Kennedy and Kerry said the senators would not go beyond their prepared statements in responding to Santorum's accusation that they ''did nothing."

4. I'm glad they responded, but in a low-key way
We don't need to give this jerk any more press coverage. I suppose he thinks slinging mud this way makes him popular with that fundy-fringe 22%.

Listening to him and a couple of other uber-conservatives lately, I get the idea that they have a really over-inflated sense of how important the religious right is. Thank stolen elections and *'s supposed mandate for that. They are believing their own spin!! I suppose there's always that danger when you live in a closed environment and don't allow dissenting opinions. And if you lie and lie constantly, you do begin to believe it yourself--that's the big trap. You begin to live in the bubble those lies created.

There was the guy who responded to Frist's "betrayal" on stem cell research. No more Mr. Nice Guy for Frist, he warns--our people won't work for your election! Frist has read the polls and he's coming down on the side of the majority, trying to salvage himself after the Schiavo case. But I do think it's too little, too late for Frist. The man has no charisma and comes off as a real phoney, especially after this latest flip-flop.

5. Same here - Santorum is clearly making himself look worse
with every statement. As a senator, doesn't he realize that the MA Senators had no role in MA law enforcement - the comments they did make in 2002 were totally appropriate.

In light of Cardinal Law's comments on their abortion votes, I really don't think they had any special leverage as Catholics in using their persuasiveness to get the church to change its policies. Shouldn't Santorum be blaming Cardinal Law or those higher in the church who took him out of Boston.

As the Senators had no role in the MA judicial system - which DID bring charges and they had no special relationship to get the Cardinal to change policy, what exactly did Santorum want the Senators to do. (and what did HE do in PA when their were charges.)

Now that he has in effect accused Kerry of ignoring pedophelia - I wonder if John will agree that Teresa was right and concede Santorum hasn't changed.

6. Santorum's attacks are getting more personal.
Now he appears to be singling out Kennedy and Kerry for blame in the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. You will remember that Santorum has previously blamed the scandal on liberalism within the church :eyes: and also emphasized the intensity of the problem in the Boston archdiocese.

Personally, I'd love Sean O'Malley to deliver a major-league rebuke to the odious Santorum. Heck, I'd love a few liberal nuns to give him a piece of their minds, too.

7. If you think that's bad,
check out the videos on this website:

Oh. My. God.

We should thank our lucky stars he wrote his execrable mess of a book, if only because it gave him an excuse to go on every tv show in the country and make an utter ass of himself time after time.

SEE:

Santorum say that "Birth control is bad for women."!!!!!!

"Liberals cause divorce!!!!!!"

8. Well, if I used statistics
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 06:38 PM by karynnj
and some measure of % liberal, why would I find a positive correlation between % conservative and % divorce and a negative correlation between % liberal and % divorce. Why does MA have the lowest divorce rate? Why are most of the states with the highest divorce rate red.

Birth control pills are prescribed for many woman for medical reasons .

I doubt he is going to win votes by attacking the Massachusetts Senators this way. Didn't he years ago dismiss Teresa's dislike of him by pointing out she was dating a MA Senator.

9. Did Mama T say she disliked Santorum?
If she did, I'm going to swear eternal friendship with her or something. I guess she just can't shake that EXCELLENT taste in men.

14. That's great
But wouldn't "Fundamentalist Fanatic Ken" have a REAL problem with his girlfriend, Barbie, who has put off marrying him since the early 1960s - although she seems to buy at least one new wedding gown each year. She's really rejecting her God given role!

13. In an early primary article about the Kerrys,
She was talking about how she didn't like Santorum - Kerry suggested he might have changed - but Teresa held to her position. (In fact, I think John may in truth now fully agree with his wife's very low opinion of him. I have a feeling that he may have sunk even lower in their estimtation after this whole liberals cause pedophelia in the church nonsense.)

11. it's true what you say about marriage
Research shows that the more egalitarian the marriage, the better chance it has to be happy and survive. But those on the right don't believe in research now, do they. To them, if it "seems" right, well then it must be right. :eyes:
