Kerry nails it again - Rove's "divisive rhetoric and schoolboy taunts" |
|
Hope the DU framing fans give him his due
In my email just now:
--------------------------------
They tried to put a brave public face on. But, as they gathered in Pittsburgh this past weekend, GOP leaders and campaign strategists couldn't hide the fact that they've got their political backs to the wall.
Yes, there was lots of energy at the meeting, but it was the nervous energy of panicked politicians and operatives who know their luck is running out.
Last week, Democrat Paul Hackett, a political newcomer and Iraqi combat veteran, came within 4,600 votes of winning an Ohio special election in a heavily Republican district. Republican operatives laughed about how easily they could defend this district until Ohio voters shocked them and sent a clear signal of what 2006 holds.
Rick Santorum -- the poster boy for the most extreme elements of the Bush agenda -- was a featured speaker at the GOP meeting. Senator Santorum is trailing Bob Casey, his Democratic opponent, and may be the most vulnerable Republican in the country.
And, Karl Rove, whom George W. Bush calls the "architect" of his political success, wasn't anywhere to be seen at the meeting. Rove likes to show up at Republican gatherings with his divisive rhetoric and schoolboy taunts aimed at the President's opponents. But now, his involvement in exposing the identity of a CIA agent for political revenge has put Rove's bare-knuckles political tactics under intense scrutiny.
The Republican National Committee used its national strategy meeting in Pittsburgh to kick off its drive to survive the most critical elections of 2005 and 2006. We at the grassroots need to use the GOP meeting to raise the funds Democratic candidates need to take it to the Republicans in races all across America. Make a Contribution
With the money they'll raise and the tactics they'll use, GOP candidates won't be easy to beat despite their dismal record on the problems that concern America's families. But, that's okay. We don't care about easy or hard. We just plan to do what it takes to win.
So, take a moment right now to send Rove Republicans like Rick Santorum a powerful message. Help Keeping America's Promise make it clear that Democrats are ready, willing and able to compete in every critical race across America.
Make a Contribution
Let's show that the cynical politics of the Rove Republicans will be no match for the commitment and energy of our grassroots movement. Let's go to work
Thank you,
John Kerry

1. Great letter, as usual from Kerry |
|
Do any of you still contribute to him? I send a small amount to the DNC every month, but that's pretty much it. I'm soooo happy that he remains involved with his supporters.
On a lighter note, I was listening to Franken this morning, and he was saying that we should raise money to keep Santorum in office. Everytime he opens his mouth, it helps our side.

3. I wish I could contribute more to Kerry and the DNC . . . |
|
Probably as we get closer to the end of the year I'll shell out some more.

9. Yes. I contribute on occasion. |

I'm wary of giving to the DNC because I don't know how it will be spent. I did give to DNC when JK asked us to do that to support Howard right after he was appointed DNC chair. And I think it will be better with Howard running it (unlike some folks here, I really do like Dean. Just not as much as JK.) Still, I'd rather give directly to specific candidates, or (maybe) Emily's List or similar groups that have a specific focus.
So sometimes when JK sends a fundraising email I send a little money. They know better than to call me on the phone asking for money though. ;-)

That was absolutely great to call them that! The day will come when every at least a little bit honest Republican has to distance himself from Rove - and Bush - as far as he could. And Kerry calling them "Rove Republicans" is mounting the pressure. Great strategic move, senator!

4. I remember the old article about John and Teresa |
|
where he kept trying to say that Santorum had changed and that she should try to get along with him.
I wonder if he's changed his mind and agrees with her now. Sure sounds like it from this email.

11. I think he was talking about Heinz in that comment. |
|
I remember seeing the article posted here and someone else posted (and I agreed) that JK was referring to Heinz in that comment, not Santorum. But I've seen a lot of other people interpret it the way you did. (Anyone feel like finding the article and posting a link?)

12. That wouldn't make any sense |
|
she was married to Heinz. Santorum had insulted him. Teresa hated him and would never forgive him for dissing her former husband. Kerry was trying to convince her Ricky had changed. She wasn't buying it.
I think I was the one who originally posted that.

8. The gloves are off, as promised |
|
This is very good stuff. Along with the recent announcement that the Dems are gearing up for a big think tank fund-raiser and all the other tea leaves that are out there, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Dems are gearing up for real war. This could get really, relly intereting, really, really soon.
