Some good media news for JK supporters
This is a small thing, but I thought it worth sharing.

For some reason I got wrapped up in existing threads here yesterday and forgot to post something I wanted to. On my way home from work I have about a ten-minute stretch in the car each day from the train station to my house. I generally listen to Randi Rhodes although at least 3 of the ten minutes is usually taken up by ads.

Yesterday my train was very late and I ended up getting in the car and turning on Randi at about 6:15 pm. She took a caller and they were talking about how the * machine tries to smear people who served their country. Randi responded by referring to Cleland and Kerry, and talked about Kerry's courage to first volunteer and serve honorably, then come home and have the intelligence and courage to stand up against the war. It was only a minute or so that she talked about him but it was very nice. I had been trying to figure out Randi's attitude on Kerry - I never heard her say anything negative but also sometimes she would leave him out when I thought she should have mentioned him. But then, I only listen 10-20 minutes a day. Anyway, I thought this was very, very good. I don't know if there's an archive to listen to yesterday's show. If there is and you want to hear that bit, it was on at about 6:15 pm EDT (45 minutes before the end of the show).

I was reminded of this by this DU post today:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1998520

which references this BuzzFlash article:

http://www.buzzflash.com/editorial/05/08/edi05059.html

It is actually about Cindy Sheehan and Rove attacks in general, only mentions Kerry as one of several patriotic Americans they have smeared, but it reminded me of the Randi show yesterday.

Between the two items, I am thinking that every time they try to smear a vet, Kerry's name will be mentioned - at least in places like AAR and BuzzFlash, but also MSNBC et al occasionally - as a true patriot who served his country honorably.

Repetition is a good thing. Of course I wish the * machine would suddenly become decent human beings and stop trying to trash good people, but as long as they are going to do it anyway I think the repetition that JK served honorably is a good thing, because it is subtly going to influence people to respect him more.

That's my thinking, anyway. Yours?

1. I agree.
I happened to hear that Randi Rhodes segment as well, and found it heartening.

Stephanie Miller speaks very well of Kerry on nearly a daily basis. She's a wonderful example of a great dem voice - she completely avoids dem-bashing, and saves all her energy for republicans. It makes for an upbeat 3 hours a day. If you don't get her show locally, I'd recommend podcasting/downloading it or listening online: http://www.stephaniemiller.com/ Plus, her "Lying Sack of Crap" song is not to be missed!! (as is her sidekick's imitation of * riding his bicycle and saying "I like toast.")

I agree that in this case repetition is a good thing. It's interesting to me how generally accepted the "Max Cleland was unfairly smeared" meme is now - too little too late, but there is a cumulative effect to the repitition - add McCain (I know, but still...), add Kerry, and you have some critical mass there.

4. thanks for the recommendation
I am trying to get her show online, but my media player so far doesn't get in the sound. Even though I just downloaded the updated verson. So I emailed them about what to do next. She used to be on AAR, right? And now they have Springer in that slot? If I can listen whenever I log on, that will be so much the better.

6. She's actually
part of the Jones Radio Network (same as Ed Schultz). She's on the Boston AAR lineup from 9am-12noon. She was on vacation last week, and I really missed her. She and the Marc/ks on Morning Sedition are my favorites. And Franken when Tom Oliphant and Joe Conason are on. The rest of the time, eh...but he is nice to Kerry, at least.

7. I can't get in on the air in my area

so online is my only option. :(

I have been watching Franken on Sundance since they started that recently--by watching it on TV I get their best one hour of content for the day. Tom Oliphant is a regular on Thursdays, in case you weren't aware. And Joe Conason is Fridays.

He is nice to Kerry--he pointed out how Kerry was right about OBL and ToraBora this week. Unlike some, Kerry hasn't been dropped down the memory hole by Franken. I like to listen to people I really trust, and Franken is one of them.

Some of his content is much too simple for a political news junkie like me, but I realize that more of his listeners are just cab drivers or truckers, and it needs to be that accessible because of this.

8. Thanks for the pointer - just downloaded it.
I haven't listened to Stephanie Miller before. I just downloaded the first hour of today's show and am listening now. Sounds good so far...

BTW "heartening" is exactly the word I was looking for. It's nice to hear someone talking positively about Dems instead of the constant infighting. Especially when the guy they're talking positively about is JK. :-)

9. Stephanie Miller is now my FAVORITE show! I love her and Jim and
Chris.

LOL at work or at home.

Mocking ridicule is great for the system.

If anyone hasn't listened to her, try it.

2.  I like what Cindy is doing because
she is forcing * to do the right thing or be shown to be what he really is. We need more activities like this, because all the words in the world seem to just bounce off them. But just like the VVAW vets, everybody acknowledges her right to speak out--it will be very hard to discredit her I think. She's calling * out and it can only be a good thing. Let them arrest her--all the worse for them. With his approval ratings in the toilet, he doesn't have a lot of wiggle room.

3. I kind of do hope
they arrest her. That would be the photo-op heard 'round the world. Can you imagine worse PR for *?????
