Kerry Travels to Seattle to Address Democratic Legislators at DLCC
John Kerry Travels to Seattle to Address Democratic Legislators at DLCC Annual Luncheon

John Kerry is currently on a trip across the country. Although, I am told by a member of Kerry’s Senate staff that he is on vacation, it appears that Kerry is combining work with pleasure… see my earlier post on his stop in Montana.

Kerry is scheduled to stop in Seattle on Friday August 19th, to address Democratic Legislators at DLCC Annual Luncheon.

Kerry Calls State Legislators the Cornerstone of the Democratic Party

Washington, D.C. – On August 19, Senator John Kerry will be the keynote speaker at the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee’s (DLCC) 10th Annual Luncheon in Seattle, WA. The Democratic legislators will be in Seattle for the National Conference of State Legislatures Annual Meeting.

1. Our guy is getting around!
But unfortunately, "Kerry Calls State Legislators the Cornerstone of the Democratic Party" would not play so well in PA thesae days... our Dem legislators are working on "permanent minority" status these days. (Gee, let's cut Medicaid, libraries, etc, etc, oh yeah let's bring in slot machines to places that don't want them...and then let's vote ourselves a 16-34% pay raise!! And demote any Dem committee chairs that opposed the pay raise! Yeah that's the ticket!)

Sorry for bringing in my PA state disgruntledness...just can't help myself...I hope MA is more sane.

4. MA and sane in the same sentence. I knew this day would come!
Although MA has the reputation of being a very, very blue state, we are actually moderate. While it is true that 87% of the elected officials in MA are Dems, that is a misleading statistic. Many of those Dems are either moderate or conservative and they have been working hand-in-glove with the Rethug Governors over the last 15 years to cut away at environmental, worker-protection and education laws in favor of cutting taxes to businesses.

Massachusetts does have an exceptionally liberal Congressional and Senatorial delegation. Every single one of them voted against the Bankruptcy Bill and against the Energy Bill and against CAFTA. That is a very impressive liberal record. It is something of a mystery (and worth a Harvard Study to say the least) to figure out how that happened, given that the State Legislature is fairly moderate and the state in general is rather moderate. But it did and I am proud of these folks.
