I need a silly Friday thread.
Vektor's post reminded me of what I've been missing around here.

Not to detract from all the important discussion, but sometimes a little Kerry love is what is needed. Too much wonk is bad for us.

So I'm open to suggestions. Unfortunately, there aren't many new pictures. So maybe this can be a varied Kerry love thread - pictures, stories, haikus (ahem), drawings, whatever.

Anyone else up for it?

I'll start.

5. Tay Tay, I loved your post in the BG book thread
about JK at the '03 St. Patrick's Day Breakfast. His comment about having work done on his shillelagh was just too funny!

10. I have always found him funny!
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 08:31 PM by TayTay
Not Robin Williams funny, but I think he gets off the odd zinger now and then. And that Breakfast was just too good. (One of the best ever.) It is hard to over-emphasize how big a beating Kerry was taking in-state for that idiotic, 'He's not Irish' thing. And he just blew them all away. The appearance at the breakfast just stopped the thing cold. I adored that moment. I want more of those moments. (Maybe next year. This year's breakfast was dull and embarrassing. There were Irish vs. Italian jokes which are so 1950's. And no speakers of color. At all. WTF?)

I had to put that comment in about the Shillelagh (sp.) It was for Vektor. Because I want a new haiku. (And it was kind of raunchy and I love it when they talk dirty.) Sigh!

This is what yuo get when Catholic girls go wild. I will now go and do penance in the corner for a while.

11. I love that he's funny in that subtle kind of way.
A kind of funny that you have to think about, not funny that hits you over the head.

Oh, and since I'm not Catholic I guess I don't have to spend time in the penalty box for thinking about his shillelagh. Lucky me.

13. Whome gets what she wanted, a silly Friday thread.
"spend time in the penalty box for thinking about his shillelagh."

Well, ahm, well, geez, when you put it that way, I guess I am guilty as charged.

("But Sister Mary Francis, he started it. I was just caught in the flow."
"Sure you were Theresa Marie Bernadette, that's why you remembered that quote for two years and were able to dig it out at need. Believe that and I got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. Now go to confession and get a proper penance before you die in some accident and wind up in purgatory. You wouldn't like purgatory, it's filled with Rethugs."
"Yes, Sister.")

Sigh! Being Catholic means always feeling guilty about something. Sigh!

This one makes me swoony - but I love the other one too!!!

Actually, that whole issue of Rolling Stone is my favorite bit of memorabilia. I love the interview and I LOVE the piece Hunter Thompson wrote about the two candidates.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/_/id/6562575

BULLETIN
KERRY WINS GONZO ENDORSMENT; DR. THOMPSON JOINS DEMOCRAT IN CALLING BUSH "THE SYPHILLIS PRESIDENT"
"Four more years of George Bush will be like four more years of syphilis," the famed author said yesterday at a hastily called press conference near his home in Woody Creek, Colorado. "Only a fool or a sucker would vote for a dangerous loser like Bush," Dr. Thompson warned. "He hates everything we stand for, and he knows we will vote against him in November."

Thompson, long known for the eerie accuracy of his political instincts, went on to denounce Ralph Nader as "a worthless Judas Goat with no moral compass."

"I endorsed John Kerry a long time ago," he said, "and I will do everything in my power, short of roaming the streets with a meat hammer, to help him be the next President of the United States."

*****

Which is true. I said all those things, and I will say them again. Of course I will vote for John Kerry. I have known him for thirty years as a good man with a brave heart -- which is more than even the president's friends will tell you about George W. Bush, who is also an old acquaintance from the white-knuckle days of yesteryear. He is hated all over the world, including large parts of Texas, and he is taking us all down with him.

Bush is a natural-born loser with a filthy-rich daddy who pimped his son out to rich oil-mongers. He hates music, football and sex, in no particular order, and he is no fun at all.

8. Trivia Dept: Sworn in a day early in Boston

Senator-elect John Kerry, retiring Senator Paul Tsongas, and Governor Michael Dukakis at the State House swearing-in ceremony in January 1985 as Kerry takes the oath as US Senator.

Globe Staff Photo / Ted Dully
Trivia: Sen. Tsongas resigned from his seat a day early in 1985, so that Kerry could be sworn in and get a leg up on seniority. There are still members of the Senatorial Class of '84 in the Senate, but KErry (And Massachusetts, btw) has a leg up on 'em, because Kerry began life as a Senator a day before they did.

31. I remember seeing JK and THK pictures from the campaign
trail and there was such tenderness captured in the photos. If the media (other than yahoo) would have published that side of him, then he'd have picked up even more votes.

It really angers me how the media was complicit in their anti-kerry message!

24. I Took This Photo 2 Weeks Prior To The Election....
This was in Pittsburgh at a rally of 30,000. It's my favorite. Also, when he left the stage, my hand was the first he shook. I couldn't be more proud of that incidental fact.

Just about the time I'm about to take the site down, for some reason, Kerry's campaign continues to come up!
Here's the photos of the October Rally. Bon Jovi was the entertainment. I was directly behind the stage. I knew once Kerry entered from stage right, he'd be exiting stage left. I was directly at the base of the stairs as he did.

Enjoy the photos.

You'll also see photos from our HQ at Washington PA when Alexandria visited us. Teresa, and John Edwards landing at Pittsburgh, and some others. 4 pages in all. Click on the thumbnail for the full photo and text.

BTW, I've created this new Washington Co. Dems website.

I love the one on the first page, third row from the bottom, smiling. I don't think I can get enough smiling pics. I really love those. (I think he has a great smile, when he lets it out. Really lights up the whole face.)

All the pics are wonderful. You have to save them for us. (We need pics threads in here. When the going gets tough, the tough look for pics! It gets you through the bullshit times.)

Obviously the "train" and "Kerry/Clinton" were not mine. Those were from Philadelphia. As to the Kerry on the bottom row, the pic with the blue t-shirted union workers behind him, was taken in nearby Canonsburg on the 4th of July.

Also on that bottom row, probably my best Edwards shot. Clark looked as tired in person as he did in the photo.

As for my 2nd favorite shot of Kerry, it's the last photo on Page 1. After the speech, and down the steps, he circled the stage area shaking hands. As he was leaving on a ramp-way, he was reaching out to all who could shake his hand. With all the people, I didn't know what I'd get, even with a telephoto lens. Turned out great.

I look at those photos often, but many can't look because it still hurts. Like them, I still believe we won.
