CNN HN is actually reporting on Kerry's Seattle speech
Did they lift the ban or something? Maybe there's a Saturday exemption clause on the "ignore Kerry" rule.
OTOH, they're not reporting the best quotes. Must be part of the deal.

2. It's HN, so very short clip.
Kerry says Dem party needs to stay focused... Republicans use the war in Iraq to divert from the real issues...
No video from the speech, but some good file footage.

Kerry got the most applause when he took shots at Republicans and the Bush administration, saying they were out of touch with the American people.

"America's future is being hijacked today by a group of politicians whose interest in exercising power and presenting a narrow ideological agenda and winning elections ... has taken all precedence over a legitimate effort to solve the problems of our country," he said.

Kerry blasted President Bush's policies on education, the environment and the war in Iraq. "The president said the other day he believes we ought to be teaching 'intelligent design' in our schools. I think we ought to be getting some intelligent design in our policy on Iraq," he said.

5. Good story
but the rare msm TV coverage is a real bonus. I hope they replay it throughout the day. The off-line public gets so little news of JK, and they need to be reminded of what they're missing.

6. Bigger photos

Sen. John Kerry addresses a luncheon of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, in Seattle. Kerry, last year's unsuccessful Democratic nominee for president, is trying to build the party's ground game by electing more Democratic state legislators across America. Kerry, who easily carried the West Coast 'blue' states last fall, is raising money and rallying campaign footsoldiers for Democrats across the country and may use the chits for a new White House bid. This time with clips from the speech. And they mentioned the "intelligent design" quote.
I'm shocked.

15. Here's my transcript of what he said:
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 01:49 PM by ginnyinWI
clip 1: "We have to go out and fight for the real issues that make a difference in the lives of the American people, and we don't need some great lurch to the right or lurch to the left, or re-definition of the Democratic Party. The last thing America needs is a second Republican Party!"

clip 2: " Our troops deserve all the support in the world, and I know the American people support them. But I'll tell you what they really deserve: they deserve, above all, a civilian leadership that is equal to the sacrifice that they are making on our behalf."

And he's mad, folks--read this with the "on-fire Kerry voice" in your head!

The reporter also told about Bush launching a (lame) PR campaign for support of his war, and it wasn't very positive! Tipping point!

16. They are treating this as a pretty big story
and it is, but there have been a lot of speeches that they didn't cover that I thought they might.
Today's was broadcast first with file footage of Kerry, then later changed to actual video from the speech.
It's good to see him get some media attention.
And he does seem a bit angry.
:applause:

The few refuse to get it, but some good comments as well.
I hate that all the newbies are seeing the dark side of DU. More incentive, though, to support/defend Kerry and all other good Dems with facts, and debunk all the bullshit RW talking points.
Did you see the video on CNN HN?

17. Good. I'm glad this is on the national media
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 04:07 PM by TayTay
I had thought that the Senator from Massachusetts making a hard hitting speech on the current Prez and his policies on Iraq and on domestic issues might make the news in said Senator's home state, but that is not the case (unless they are just waiting until tonight for the tape to get sent over the sat or something.) Sigh!

Was a trasncript posted anywhere. Sounds like this was a great, snarky, pissed off Kerry and I really like that guy.

Edit: Also, this is a filled out variation of the speech I heard in Fanueil Hall in April. Kerry is very 'on message' and has added some great lines. He is listing the things in America that the Rethugs have no intention of fixing and is urging Dems to pay attention to them. This is the 'felt needs' speech, with a little more meat on it's bones and with some more direct criticism of *. I love this!

Anyone know if Sen. Kerry plans on a listening tour in MA? I, selfishly, would like to see my Sen and see what he has to say to the home folks. How much longer is he on vacation out West? (Way, way beyond Route 128 and Worcester.) I want a 'listening tour' here at home. (Cuz I'm a bitch and I wanna see the Sen here and see some news about him make the local TV. I know it's parochial and selfish, but I want it anyway.) I would like to see some remarks on how people in the 'cold states' are going to make it through this winter when heating oil and natural gas prices are expected to rise at least 50% above last year. I think that is a in-your-face, immediate need that is going to cause a lot of people at home some real bad hardship. (And is a natural lead-in to a discussion about a lot of things.)

22. it's a very good thing
It's about time for the national media to be over the "ignore the loser" phase and realize that he is still a leading Dem Senator, after all, and has a right to speak out.

Now this is exactly Kerry's forte--coming out and doing his own statement his own way on the failures of the * administration, NOT just becoming a "me too" guy attaching himself to the Camp Casey vigil or anybody else's thing, which looks like political opportunism. I wish the "GD" whiners could see that someone with his stature should be doing his own thing in his own venue, not joining Cindy or doing what they think he should be doing! :eyes:

I saw the posts here and turned on CNN HN and saw first the story on Reid then the Kerry story. I think they showed more of him actually speaking than they tended to do during the campaign even. This was a real treat. He did sound angry, but their excerpts did capture his point that Bush is avoiding American needs. The 2006 focus was nice.

Should we worry his comeback is too early? :) (Just joking - I think people will be surprised how consistent he is.)

24. Naw, he got some decent press over asking for the Roberts Papers
And for opposing that loon Bolton. I think the 'comeback' is going along fine.

But I am seriously worried about Sen. Kerry coming home and making some appearances in the Bay State. The BGlobe gets very ahm, proprietary about MA Pols spending time in MA. They used the following sentence to criticize former Gov Weld in their editorial today: "One consolation: Weld will come with a ready-made upstate state house in the Adirondacks. It was always something of a sore point for us that he didn't spend all his vacation dollars in Massachusetts." http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/editorials/articles/2005/08/20/the_weld_we_know/

When Sen. Kerry took a listening tour' in states other than MA in April, the Globe stabbed him in the back with then phony 'He doesn't support Gay Marriage' story. I think it was some sort of weird Globe vendetta thing, and I would not like to see it happen again. (And the weird grades story, which was also a non-story that they had no purpose to front-page except that it was embarrassing to the SEnator.

So, I seriously hope to see Senator Kerry later this week and next at home, participating in the Boston 375th Birthday Party and giving some speeches and visits to the home state. Cuz, it would be a good pre-emptive strike. Especially when the Senator gets good press out of state. Cuz some people don't seem to like that and don't like him making headlines so far from home. (Not me. Don't flame me. I'm just suspicious of other people's motivations.)

27. Hey, founder of this here forum, good to hear from ya!
How's it been kiddo! We have been hanging around during the dolsrums of August. Talking about Cindy, talking abour Iraq, talking, most recently, about a most excellent speech that Sen. KErry gave.

It's a bit slow, but then again, it's summer and there is no Congress in session. (Which, give that this is the 109th (Weasel) Congress, might actually be a good thing.)

How's by you?

Last nite I was watching FSTV - totally liberal, all the way to the left. They have a program called I.N.N. Report (international and national news) and they broadcasted excerpts from his speech:toast: :woohoo: :applause:

The reporter was talking about when Kerry said we need intellegent design in Iraq, and all the applause he received.

I almost fell out of bed:P
