1. He has said this
Will Pitt interviewed him in Dec. "03.

WRP: Do you feel a kinship with the peace movement that exploded around this Iraq invasion, given your background? Or do you feel alienated from them because of that vote?

JK: I felt enormous understanding, empathy, sympathy and respect for the voice they were articulating. I completely understood it. I came from there. I understood the confusion over why someone with my long history, why there was confusion over my position, why people were questioning it.

But I felt my decision was absolutely consistent with the counter-proliferation efforts I have been making as a Senator for my entire career. I felt proliferation was a critical issue. I thought a President ought to get inspectors back into Iraq. I thought a President ought to hold Saddam Hussein accountable. But I knew how to do it right, and my regret is that this President proved he not only didnt know how to do it right, but was prepared to go back on his promises, be deceptive, and mislead the nation. I regret that he did that, and I regret that I put any trust in him at all. I shouldnt have, obviously.

Put it this way: Given the circumstances we were in at the time, the decision was appropriate, but in retrospect I will never trust the man again. Thats why I am running against him. He deserves to be replaced with someone who is trustworthy.

That was one of my favorite all-time Kerry speeches. That one and the Acceptance speech were very tough, hard-itting and focused speeches that just whaled on That Friggin Idiot. I loved them.

25. Thanks for posting this
I never saw this before, though I saw the other (longer) Pitt description of when Kerry was with many liberal journalists.

This REALLY is strong and reads as true - linking it to the counter-proliferation efforts Kerry backed (and still in the debate said was the most important issue) and the inspectors really makes sense. He does clearly say Bush broke promises and deceived people and that he will never trust him again.

2. I wish Kerry would come out and say--
--that the Bush administration has managed this war so badly that we've gone beyond the window where we could still do anything positive there with our military forces, and that it's time for them to come home, because they are doing more harm than good being there now. And that they need to come home before Feingold's suggested deadline; six months would be more like it. Turn it over to the U.N. if they have to, but get our face off this operation.

This would be consistent with what he's been saying--that our troops deserve civilian leadership that is up to the standard of the service they are giving. And they clearly aren't going to be getting any changes in leadership any time soon.

4. What do I want JK to say?
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

I'll wait a bit for that one.

For now, I'd like to hear him say
"bush* lied. he lied about the war, he lied throughout the campaign, and he continues to lie daily to the American people."

Those exact words, thank you very much.

Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 08:05 PM by rox63
I'd like to hear him say this: "Our president, George W. Bush, has lied to all of us. He lied to the members of the House and Senate, he lied to the American people, he lied to the United Nations, and he lied to our allies. Because of his lies, we are involved in a brutal and unnecessary war. Because of his lies, thousands of innocent people, including many of our best and bravest soldiers, have been killed and maimed. Their blood is on his hands."

Geez, I don't sound too bitter, do I? :grr: :banghead:

Putting said bitterness aside for the moment, Welcome DC! :hi:

Thanks so much for all of your warm welcomes. Ya know , I'm getting a little nervous. Aren't many men on this board! Are all of us females going to have to compete for Kerrys HEART?? Personally, I think he has a "classic" appeal, and the stature of a very strong Abe Lincoln. He's got the warmest most genuine smile. I wish he would smile more often, but then what is there for us to smile about? Watch out Teresa! Hold on fast to your man! I think my Avitar says it all. It shows his genuine warmth. I'll be talking to all of you again soon!:loveya:

Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 07:02 AM by TayTay
It is one of the strange anomalies of this group. We are friendly, content-heavy, info-heavy and something like 90-10 female. This is very odd as most of the blogs tilt toward a heavy male presence.

Just one of those things. We do have (and deeply love) our male posters in this forum. But we seem to attract women. (Okay, maybe it's the subject of the forum that attracts women.)

As one-time Dem nominee for MA Gov once said of the BU English dept: "It's a damn matriarchy over there." Sigh!

Try those little round, plastic disk things. (I know that description isn't very helpful, but I forgot what they're called.) I have ants every spring and these things work like a charm. They ants are gone within 24 hours.

23. He needs to fiercely denounce Pat Robertson's statement today
calling for Hugo Chavez to be assassinated. And note that Robertson was a former Republican presidential candidate, and despite that the * administration has disavowed today's statement, Robertson and * have a close relationship..." oh and that calling for assassination is decidely un-Christian...

Much as I hate to link to dkos, this poster sums it up well:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/8/23/214639/761

And seriously - where ARE the Democrats? (including Kerry?)

Okay, there's one or two other things I wish he'd come out and say. But this one is the bee in my bonnet today.

31. This is what made me start this thread
Listening to talk radio, a local show, the host was talking about all of the things the democrats have been given on a silver plater -

the dsm
Bush's ratings
Cindy Sheehan
PROOF of Global Warming
The slime coming out of Limbo (calling Sheehan a fake, saying that Casey didn't die) Now Robertson.
Americans wanting out of Iraq.
Plamegate.
Coingate.

The host was saying how the grassroots are screaming about all of these things, and nobody in our party is leading. It's all us. He was saying that Chuck Hagel is more outspoken about this war than any other dem.
He was saying to look at how we all supported Hackett.

Where are the dems???? And dammit - I want Kerry to be that one. He is sooooo close. A dem has to take the lead. What are they so afraid of?
You would think by now, they would see how badly we want a leader.

If the shoe was on the other foot, you could be sure that Rove would be happier than a pig in a garbage can. Just look at what they did with a stain on a blue dress. Well, dems, we've got an even bigger stain. The repugs keep throwing their dirty laundry at us!

rant rant rant....

Kerry's recent speech was great. Lots of attention. Like I said, I feel he is sooooo close. I wish he would let loose. Give him a few glasses of wine, and then hand him a microphone. I know it's in there.

Gentlemen don't get elected Senator. (This is not a monarchy or a Victorian romantic novel. Hmmm, no, no, no, TayTay focus.) Sen. Kerry has made some blistering speeches about what is going wrong in this country and I think he will make more.

September will be about Roberts, but the issue of the war in Iraq and a possible excursion into Iran will continue to be in the news. There is plenty of time to press again for hearings, responsibility and accountability.
