Two BG Articles that should be read
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 08:29 AM by TayTay
The first is an editorial on KKKarl and how awful he is.

What I noted, in particular, was this questioning of what Rove did in 2004 and how the Globe wrote about it:
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/editorials/articles/2005/08/28/rove_role/?page=full

In 2004, a direct link was established between the Bush campaign -- of which Rove was ''the architect," in Bush's words -- and the libels against John Kerry from the swift boat veterans. With such a history, is it possible that Rove encouraged the Catholic bishops who questioned Kerry's fitness to take Communion?

This is fascinating. (Beyond the usual, "How dare you bash Kerry. That's our job" Boston Globe thing.) Juxtapose that with the following story about a Rethug group that is pretty much a front group for the GOP and how they are trying to make the Catholic University structure in the USA tow the line in a straight forward Rethug way:

http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2005/08/28/groups_church_role_questioned/?page=full

In an issue of Crisis magazine, which focuses on Catholic issues, Reilly wrote an article stating that professors and staff at 10 top Catholic colleges gave disproportionately to the presidential campaign of Senator John F. Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat. The January 2005 article said personnel at Boston College donated $17,000 to Kerry, who is Catholic and supports abortion rights, but gave nothing to President Bush, who is Methodist and opposes abortion rights.

A fourth Boston College professor, the Rev. James Keenan, is targeted in a separate fund-raising letter, which alludes to ''heretics and dissidents" teaching at Catholic colleges and accuses him of testifying against a Massachusetts initiative that would define marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

In an e-mail interview, Keenan said he ''explicitly upheld church teachings on chastity and on social justice, and I never supported gay marriage." He said he testified against a proposal that would have taken away social benefits from same-sex partners.

Please read the whole article. These people are attempting, even in 'liberal Massachusetts' to deny dissent and get people who aren't in line with the extremist Catholic views expressed by this society fired. This is a classic Rethug move. It will get worse. (Hey, the last time we had so many references to heretics in MA, 19 people got hanged in 1692.) And if this type of thing can happen in Boston, then it can happen even more so in other Catholic Universities.

Thoughts?

3. I can only get 1 link to work
Also in GD I can't get either to work. Do you have to register ?

I posted this link to the PBS "The Architect" It really got me thinking on how this person this weasel will do anything for his side to win. He is evil pure evil. Two interesting things about this evil-doer:

For such a purportedly mysterious figure, Karl Rove has been a remarkably unchanging commodity. Since childhood, politics and the Republican Party have been his sole concerns. (Asked a few years ago when he first started weighing a presidential campaign, he named the day he was born, December 25, 1950.) And his entire career, spanning some 30 years, is bound together in large measure by his professional ties and personal devotion to both George Bush the father and George Bush the son.

He comes from Utah. Is he a Mormon? Is he religious? What's his religious background?

... Karl was born in Denver but grew up really in Utah, in this area where almost everybody was Mormon, and he was not. He would see it almost every day in high school in a situation where students who were Mormon would go across the street for an hour of Mormon training, while the non-Mormon kids, the minority, would stay behind in study hall.

His family was not very religious. He grew up, he admits, in a nonreligious household. And even during his political career very early on, when I first met him in the middle '80s, it was clear that religion was not something that was particularly important to him. But the use of religious people, the constituencies, the advantage of putting those constituencies together for political purpose, was something that really intrigued him. Religion was something that was never important to Karl. He never really talked about it very much, I think, with people at the time. In fact, I got the clear impression that he was a person who was not religious at all.

5. Even their name is misleading
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 02:14 PM by karynnj
I was initially confused because I remembered at college the Catholic center was called the Newman Center - a google proved memory correct and also the name was the same at lots of colleges. Seeing that this organization was formed in 1993, it is clearly attempting to "borrow" the others good name.

I don't think most Catholics (or people in general) want a theocracy. I hope this will backfire. The communion thing is awful. That they were willing to hurt John and Teresa that personally is beyond sick. There was one comment during the campaign that his staff was concerned enough they called churches before he went. I wonder if Kerry will find a way to talk about this. You mentioned that you were concerned about his share of the Catholic vote. I would bet many Catholics would resent it if the church worked for the Republican party.

I find it amusing that they question the Boston College contributions to a Massachusetts Senator who went to law school there. Maybe they liked and respected him. (Zero to Bush - that's actually amazing)

6. It's a power play.
And it should backfire over the whole Roberts nomination. Hey, John Roberts is a Catholic who works for war, against resolving poverty issues and against free and fair trade in Central America.

Is John Roberts a 'bad Catholic'? Should his religiious beliefs come up at the hearings? Should he have to answer to charges of 'heresy' because he differs so much from Catholic doctrine, as enunciated by JPII, about war and such?

Inquiring minds want to know.

9. Cool! My first post on The Greatest page
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 07:37 PM by TayTay
Now I can go have a cigarette and retire.

There are two things positively guaranteed to completely and totally piss me off:

1. The Bushies telling America's veterans to bend over and take one for the team, again. (Motherf*^&#%^, Piece of sh#$^&#$&, bastards!)

2. John Kerry was a 'bad Catholic'. (Whorish, goat-worshipping, slimey-assed morans from hell. Who the f*ck died and appinted you gawd? Leave now, before the real God finds out what you are saying in the name of the Prince of Peace and you find yourself spending eternity in a bar with Ann Coulter and she's drunk and horny. Oh yeah, God doesn't screw around with this stuff. It's gonna be you, Ann and just a Shirley Temple to dull the pain. Get out now before it's too late.)
