Will you watch bush* here with the Kerry group
or in GD? I am going to need support to get through the BS.
And copious amounts of chardonnay, but I've got that covered.

I would pass, but I'm hoping for a meltdown.

Took the meds, but they're just barely holding it back. And they're the good ones. So, I'm gonna pass of the live torture, thanks. I'll get the recap later.

36. Today's Boston Globe tv review
With measured tones, Bush scrambles to rebuild

By Joanna Weiss, Globe Staff | September 16, 2005

This administration is serious about its backdrops. When President Bush addresses the nation, he's usually in front of his Oval Office window or a banner proclaiming the message of the day.

Last night, he stood in New Orleans's Jackson Square, wearing blue shirtsleeves that blended almost perfectly into the blue-lit statue and cathedral behind him. His head looked disembodied. His mouth struggled to maintain a frown.

The White House is scrambling, and the images prove it.

Bush has never looked fully comfortable on television, but there have been moments, many of them, when his cowboy demeanor has been a selling point. Blue-state stalwarts might think otherwise, but in places like Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, his defiance and dead-or-alive rhetoric -- even his trademark half-smirk -- are often taken as signs of strength.

But retreat to the Texas vernacular, so useful in cases of terror or war, only served, after Hurricane Katrina, to underscore the government's incompetence. A nation's worth of pundits roared, days after the storm, when Bush told not-yet-deposed FEMA chief Michael Brown, ''Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." The polls spoke even more loudly.

Now, ''Brownie" is gone and the White House has realized, some two weeks into the crisis, that contrition is in order. So Bush read uncomfortably from his Teleprompter last night, without any sign of swagger. It wasn't a portrait of sympathy; Bush doesn't do pain-sharing, the way Bill Clinton did so glibly and so often. This was president as general contractor. It was president as telethon chairman, repeating a 1-800 number.

Appearing in New Orleans was surely meant as a gesture of confidence -- especially since Bush spoke from the relatively unscathed heart of the French Quarter, as opposed to one of the storm-ravaged neighborhoods we've seen so much. But the eerie stillness around him spoke volumes. Under normal circumstances, Jackson Square is never empty, quiet, or controlled.

And it ws not a normal hurricane. It was a freakish, mutant, devil-sent hurricane. Normal hurricanes wouldn't have bothered me. These mutant hurricanes are evil.

This is what happens when you get all your fashion advice from Pat Robertson.

Honestly, I saw those rolled up sleeves last night. It was such an obvious grab for the 'rugular guy, have a beer with me' crowd that it was ludicrous. Nobody wants to have a beer with that moran, they are afraid he'd order the most expensive brew on the menu, spill half of it ya and then excuse himself to go potty and skip out on the bill. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, blame Bush.

35. Yeah, now there's a man who knows
how to dress so his shirt isn't the same color as the fakey lighting being used on a building behind him. Honestly. Did anyone else who watched That Friggin Idiot on tv last night think the lighting was creepy. It was a 'ghost blue' color. And The Idiot wore a shirt the same damn color. Who dresses this man?

As your luscious pic shows, some men just have it and know how to dress to show it off.

In all seriousness, did he say anything of substance?

23. No, it was Bush talking
There was never any chance that anything of substance was going to come out of those lips.

Blah, blah, blah, I care, blah, blah, blah, I have a plan. Blah, blah, blah, I'm pretending to care, and blah, blah, blah, I will pretend to make things better, but I will really give contracts to my friends and say I helped you. No one will ever notice.

Then he called on the Boy Scouts to step in and do the job FEMA couldn't. Then he scared us all by saying he would stay on top of this. (As if those poor people haven't suffered enough.)

I didn't believe a word he said. And I wonder what the effort to not smirk cost him. I mean really, I think his smirk muscles were twitching and begging to be let out the whole time he was on camera.

Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 08:50 PM by TayTay
Lending his expertise to actual legislation that will do actual good. He didn't have to fake it and consult with his media guys to figure out how to come across as caring. He went with what he knew cold: compassion, intelligence and a knowledge of what actually works. Sen. Kerry may not be Prez, but he was there today for the people of the Gulf region. He came through for 'em, as he always does. Take that and be comforted.

Sen. Kerry did that. I saw it on C-Span. I read the press releases. He did the right thing. He saw to the needs of ordinary people who are cuaght in a crisis. Like a real leader. He helped out small business people first, and the National Guard folks. And I'm damn proud him for doing it. It was excellent work from an excellent legislator.

And I am not surprised. He is a good guy.
