Email from Teresa about JK's birthday KAP event
Did any other Massholes get this email today? It's about a birthday party/KAP fundraiser happening in Boston on JK's birthday. I'm trying to decide if I can afford one of the cheap tickets or not. If a couple of us could manage it, it would be a great way to present the birthday cards to our guy. :D

Here's the link for the RSVP:

https://contribute.keepingamericaspromise.com/events/20051211_Boston.html

Dear rox63,

John's birthday is just around the corner, and I hope you will be able to join us for a special celebration. On December 11, we will gather in Boston with friends and family to support John's new grassroots action committee, Keeping America's Promise.

John founded Keeping America's Promise with one goal in mind: build on the foundation and momentum you created in 2004 and channel it toward strengthening our party and electing Democrats in 2005 and beyond. And that's exactly what he's doing. Keeping America's Promise is supporting Democratic candidates in tough races, standing up for the principles that make our country great -- and engaging millions of concerned citizens in the fight for change at the grassroots.

Click here to RSVP or for more information, or contact Jon Patsavos at jpatsavos@johnkerry.com or 617-263-3389. And I do hope you'll join us, because we are at a crossroads in America, and we all have a role to play.

If you are unable to attend, I hope you'll support Keeping America's Promise by making a contribution today.

There are daily reminders that the Republicans who run Washington have lost touch with the values and priorities of the American people. Forces outside the mainstream now seem to effortlessly push Republican leaders toward conduct the American people don't want from their elected leaders: abusing power, inserting government into our private lives, injecting religion into debates about public policy, and ignoring real problems that keep American families up at night. Moreover, we have all witnessed as Katrina has exposed not only misplaced priorities but also a terrifying lack of competence.

In the wake of Katrina, millions of Americans are reengaging in our democracy. At Keeping America's Promise, John is inspiring as many Americans as he can to join him in tackling the immense challenges facing our nation. By developing a grassroots organization committed to promoting progressive candidates up and down the ticket across America, John is doing the hard work necessary to elect people willing to make Washington work for Americans again.

I know that nothing would be more gratifying to John on his birthday than to have his friends and supporters join together behind this new effort. All of the ingredients are in place for Keeping America's Promise to make an incredible impact: organization, leadership, momentum, an unparalleled nationwide network of grassroots activists -- and maybe most importantly -- a nation deeply concerned about this administration's failures and ready for a new direction.

Together, we can help make it possible. We can give voice to our values. And we can lay the groundwork for electoral gains in 2006 that give us the power to bring change to this land.

On December 11, I hope you'll join us on John's birthday to lend your voice and ideas, and help us raise the resources needed to make Keeping America's Promise a growing success. If you cannot attend, I hope you will show your support by making a contribution.

Thank you for your continued support and friendship. I look forward to seeing you for this very special celebration of John's birthday.

Warm regards,

Teresa Heinz Kerry

1. Wow! That looks like fun.
I wish I lived in Boston - that sounds like it would be something fun to go to. Also, I see that Teresa is using the "Kerry" in her name for this - I know that some people have been critical of her for not always using the "Kerry" after the election, but she's always said that she'd use it in a political context, which she is clearly doing here.

2. You should go.
I'm jealous. You get a party invite, and I get three copies of the same letter asking for money. Oh well, guess he is your Senator after all...
Hey, maybe Santorum has a birthday coming up.

3. Hey Rox, that sounds like fun!
I would love to go. (I might even be able to find something to wear. What do you wear to a Birthday Party for your fav Senator? Something in blue, no doubt.)

Dec 11th is a Sunday, it would be Christmas time, I could peruse the lights on the common, take in some shopping and finish up at the Park Plaza.

Now, Whome and any other Mass folks? Wanna go and get a table (or half a table as the case may be?) It could be a cool 'girl's night out.' (Come on Whome, you know you want to go and be with us.) Christmas, Hannakah are coming, this would be a nice gift to yourself. (That's how I'll phrase it to my husband.)

Respondez, s'il vous plaît. (Oh, I just love it when I get to ask in French.)

(BTW, I did get this in my e-mail. But I never got the fundraising snail mail last week. Now I feel kind of special, like this is my home state Sen or something.)

So I'll just sit quietly in the corner here and feel left out.

I did get the snail mail letter last week, though. Maybe Teresa feels threatened by me?

5. Well, that's odd.
It had to be an oversight. (Wanna be my date? LOL!) If you and Rox and me and 'the player to be named later' (come on there are other Mass folks out there who want to go) all say yes, we could have a hell of a table. (People would be asking, who are those laughing fools over there and why are they having such a good time? The Senator doesn't even get here for an hour. Why are they so happy?)

Why, we would be the envy of the Kerry group. Do you realize how many people in this group would want to go to Sen. Kerry's Birthday party/fund-raiser and can't for reasons of pure geopraphy. You would be representing them. For the sake of the group Whome, for the sake of giving Vektor somthing to haiku about, for the sake of the children (okay, WEL is not a child, but there are young 'uns here) it's your patriotic duty. (Okay, I'm done. That's my spiel and I'm sticking to it.)

7. $100 for the least expensive.
Don't think of it as $100. Think of it as money that goes to relieve GlobalVillage's pain at having Santorum as a Senator. (Gosh, that makes it a noble cause, for goodness sakes.) The money goes to the PAC, which will liberally spread it around for the usual reasons; truth, justice and the real American Way. (And we would get to kibuttz at the Park Plaza. Not my fav hotel in Boston, but it's okay. C'mon, I sense you need only a nudge to be talked into this. Bring your daughter. Or just have a girls night out. Fun to be had, my dear, fun to be had.)

10. I know I don't have anything to wear.
But I only have to impress you and Whome and whoever else from here goes. (Ah, you guys can't be that hard to impress. I'll wear something sparkly. It'll be fine.) I'll be in the back in the cheap seats anyway. (Which is fine by me.) It'll be dark. No one will see me. No dressing stress.

Rox this would be fun. Maybe we could ride down together or something. That would be lovely. (Christmas shopping, or right to the b-day party?)

Tay Tay, my friend with the Santorum buttons had to order another batch. Seems 100 anti-Santorum buttons don't last long these days. If I send you two, will you try to slip one to Teresa for me? Better yet, I will send enough for everyone here who is going to the party (without me).

9. You've gotta go Whome
You've gotta go for all of us who live vicariously through your Junior Senator because our senators suck so badly. I mean, the best I could hope for is an invitation to Libby Dole's birthday party and as fun as I'm sure a night with Libby and Viagra Man would be, your party sounds much better. Do it for us! Please.

14. Yeah, what Blue said.
We have to do this for the collective good of all our sisters (and brothers) who have to suffer through insufferable Senators. Can you imagine going to a Birthday Party for Sen. Santorum. (Lithium for all.) How about those poor, poor folks in Oklahoma? They make Liddy and Viagra man look nearly sane, for goodness sakes.

For Duty and Humanity! For the sake of all these people who want to know how Senators celebrate their birthdays. Do it for them. Think of the humanity. (Think of our PA friends in here. The money goes to a very good cause. Think of it. You wake up next Nov. on the first Wednesday following the first Tuesday in Nov and read the headline that Santorum will haunt PA not more. And your contribution to the Kerry PAC was the deciding factor. The nobility, the glory. The party at GV's house. The awful hard-sell I'm employing here. Yeah, I'm spent now.)

This could fill up, depenidng on which ballroom they have at the Park Plaza. We should decide by Friday, methinks.

We need to all find each other. If I get a name tag, I'm not going to put DU on it, I think I'll put JW for 'John's Women' on it. (Well, the guys on this forum, except for Ray, don't speak up. I kind of think of us as John's Women.)

This should be a lot of fun. I have two digital cameras. I'll bring them both for maximum picture taking.

I don't think there's any restriction based on where you live. I think they only sent the invite to Massholes because they didn't figure there'd be a lot of interest outside of MA. Plus, they can only fit so many people into the Park Plaza. But if you pay for a ticket, you are fully entitled to attend.

I just emailed the point of contact (Jon P.) and asked if there was any problem with some of us coming that didn't receive invitations directly. My email:

Jon,

A friend received an invitation to this event in Boston on Dec. 11 - a birthday party for John Kerry and fundraiser for his PAC, Keeping America's Promise. We were hoping to go together to the event, along with a few other friends - some who received invitations and some who did not. For those of us from outside Massachusetts who didn't receive the invitation directly (3 to 5 people, I think), I just wanted to verify that it's okay for us to attend. Some of us (including me) have already signed up at the RSVP link and made the donation - if there is a problem with our attending, please let me know, so we don't make unnecessary travel plans. I am sure I speak for the others when I say we were happy to donate regardless, but we sure hope we'll get to go to the party too! I know that space will be limited - Senator Kerry has many fans! - so I just wanted to check with you that we'll be able to get in the door.

Thanks for your consideration, and thanks for your work in coordinating this event - I am sure it will be wonderful!

(MH)
(my town), PA

p.s. - if you've already received one or two similar requests, it may be from the same group. We're a virtual community from the Democratic Underground online forum, and we're not especially organized (yet!) - I was unclear whether anyone else had already clarified this question.

I hope I did that right, and that we get the answer we want to hear!

To the best of my knowledge Mr. Kerry will indeed go to his birthday party. (Which is nice. I am getting older, so some of my birthdays involve deep reflection on getting older and the fact that you can't get good replacement parts after 30. Sigh!) He will be there as will the Missus. Time to Party!

I live far from Boston up in the stix. But, should you need a place to rest your head, I will give you my daughter's room. She is away at school. That would be extra special nice.

That was great. To have that at an event that Sen. Kerry attends, well, OMG! My life is complete.

I swear I will post everything I remember, especially the naughty bits. I swear. I have a cell phone, so I think I will even call WEL at one point in the evening so she can listen in. (It's a WEL -VEktor thing that goes waaaaaay back in this group.)

47. Believe me, I would come all the way over the Atlantic
to meet you guys and to see Kerry if I had the money right now for such a trip. But my daughter's new school is expensive and that's definitely a priority right now. *sigh* I hope there will be other occasions and as I plan a trip to the US East Coast for next year... we will see...

48. NExt year? On the East coast?
When Uncle Ted is up for re-election? And when Uncle Ted so nicely and completely endorsed Mr. Kerry in '08. (Should he choose to run, wink, wink, nod, nod.)

My dear, come to MA in early fall. The streets will be thick with pols, including one tall an very distinguished poll with silvery hair, stumping for local Dems. (They want the Gov's office back, real bad.) There is an excellent chance that you will see Sen. Kerry. I will keep you posted as I get more info from the MA Dem Party.

You could give me a lesson in American and especially Massachusetts politics. Well, I know that as a non-US-citizen I can't actively participate in any campaign but I guess international observers should be welcome. ;-)

58. Hi Vektor!
France is fine! We had a couple of rainy days but now we have nice warm fall weather. A friend of mine who came on vacation from Germany even went swimming in the Mediterranean Sea last week.

I'm looking forward to seeing you here next year! And maybe next fall on the East coast as well? That would be great!

Have a nice time with the Kerry group girls and JK himself in Boston! And please give the senator a hug from Julie and me.

60. Well, you know me!
I'd be happy to hug him for you - and then some! France sounds great right now. Northern CA is cold and rainy at this time.

I'd rather be swimming in the Mediterranean!

Tell Julie hi for Steve and me, and we'd love to see France in May or so.

Oh God, I wonder how much fare to Boston is...... for a weekend trip...... *SO TEMPTING!*

EDIT:

If I find out I can get a flight back to Illinois in time for my finals on Monday, would any Kerrycrays be willing to put me up for the night? Ideally, I'd like to fly in on Saturday, see Boston, go to the event Sunday, then go back. I have the money for airfare I think but not really a hotel. I'd SOOOOO love to do this.

with a futon, and you could stay there. As long as you're not allergic to cats. (I've got 2)

I'm quite a distance from Boston (about 30 miles north), just a few miles from TayTay.

PM me if you want to set something up.

Check Southwest Air. They fly into Boston from Chicago, but they fly cheaply into Manchester NH. That's only a few miles from me and Rox. That is doable, if the air fare is cheap enough.

(Manchester NH is only 50 miles from Boston. It's a smallish airport, but extremely easy to get around. Southwest uses it as a hub for all of NE.)

Cursory look (before deeply looking)
Air Fare CHI to Man, NH $178
Air Fare CHI to BOS $218.

PM and let me know if you leave from CHI or from another local airport. We will deeply look.

And you don't have to hand over an arm and a leg to park. Boston's Logan airport is hell. But a lot more flights go in and out of Boston. So whatever works best for you.

57. I can't believe this is coming together like this.
I wish FIRE could go, I wish all people here could go. However folks, I also know this is Christmas time and finals time and paying for home heating oil time and such. Don't kill yourselves for this. There will be more opportunities and there should even be regional opportunities for a get together next year. (Election year.)

That said, WOW! (Oh FIRE, big, big shout-out to you sweetie. I was thinking of you. Do you like cold ole Boston in Dec.?)

61. I was just thinking - I have dresses that I can let some of you borrow if
you want. Having 2 teenage daughters - I have nice dresses that were worn to homecoming. Worn once, and hanging in the closet.

2 are a size 10 - clingy on top, fuller around the hips. Above the knee length. Actually one is really short if you want to show off some leg. strapless.

Also have a size 16. Black, simple, t-length, v-neck with simple rhinestones around the neck.

Also have a long, clingy black dress with slits up the side. Size Small - several pounds ago.

pm me if any of you want more infor on them. I can maybe figure out how to post pics if anyone wants to see.

If I can't go - maybe one of my dresses can - lol.

67. Relatively casual.
Suit coat and tie. Nice dress. Or in my case. nice jacket, shirt and pants. I hate wearing a skirt in Boston in Dec cuz my legs get freakin' cold. And I will wear decent boots. Decent looking, not my LL Bean warm ugly thingies that I really love. (Okay, I might wear them over, but that's what coat check rooms are for. I am not a dress-up person, can you tell, but I will do an upgrade to TayTay 2.0 for this.)

The Park Plaza is kind of nice and in a great location. It has a bar, M.J. O'Connors Irish Pub, hmmm, very nice. It'll do. The cheapest room rate for a Sunday over night is $169.00 but that's with two big double beds and a cot is only $10 bucks more. (That ain't bad.) Here's the addy for it: http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels.com/BostonParkPlaza/SO.aqf?language=en_US&EM=PP_LHN_SOP_GX_97507&

They have nice pics.

It is (minimum) $100 per person - but we're all going for the cheap seats. I filched my daughter's invitation - she wasn't going and I didn't get one, myself.

If you want to pm me or TayTay we can send you the link and all the rest of the original email.

68. I honestly have no idea.
I assume that there's a limited amount of space, but have no idea how much, or how many people they'll be able to pack in. Maybe TayTay has a better idea. I've never gone to anything like this, really. The closest thing would be the thank you party JK had for campaign volunteers after the election - but that was free.

Or, at the very least, I've made a nice donation to KAP!

I PM'd Tay Tay earlier in the week to ask her a few questions, but now that it looks like this is actually happening, I'm wondering if anyone might have a spare couch or room on the floor for me to crash? The idea about the room at the hotel on the night of the event sounds great, and if there is enough space for me, I'll be more than happy to contribute to that.

This is so exciting! :bounce:

And no one has gotten back to me yet about needing a place to stay. So it's still available, if someone needs a place to crash for this event. I'm about 30 miles north of Boston, a just few miles from the town TayTay lives in. So maybe a bunch of us could carpool into town together.

The only caveat is that you can't be allergic to cats, since I have two of them.

PM me if you are interested.
