3. hmmm
I wonder if it will be in response to this:

RESPONSE TO TERRORISM
U.S. Iraq War Strategy
Pres. Bush explains how the U.S. will achieve victory in the War on Terror during a major policy speech. The first of a series of speeches leading up to Iraq's Dec. 15 elections, the President fo-
cusses on Iraqi security forces, and how much territory they now control. He speaks at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

7. Thanks for the heads up!
I'll be alone in the office tomorrow so I can listen (and watch the little tiny picture on my computer) to my heart's content.

8. Good! I just posted the press release on this -
John Kerry, Jack Reed to Hold Press Conference on Iraq Tomorrow
November 29th, 2005

George W. Bush is scheduled to give another speech on Iraq tomorrow (at 9:45 a.m., est), before a captive audience. As I noted below, Bush has already made it clear today, that “We’re not going to cut and run.” So, it appears we can expect another staged photo-op of Bush posturing with the troops in attempts to try to shore up the flailing support for the war in Iraq.

Senators John Kerry and Jack Reed will also be holding a press conference on Iraq tomorrow - Wednesday, November 30.

Earlier this month, Kerry introduced his Strategy for Success in Iraq Act (S. 1993) - a comprehensive new strategy to complete the mission in Iraq and redeploy the vast majority of American combat troops as specific benchmarks to transfer responsibility to Iraqis are met, beginning with the draw down of 20,000 U.S. troops after successful Iraqi elections in December.

The goal of Kerry’s plan is to undermine the insurgency by simultaneously pursing a political settlement and the military draw down of American forces linked to specific, responsible benchmarks. If followed, the process will be completed in 12-15 months.

Tomorrow’s Kerry/Reed press conference will be held in the Mansfield Room at the U.S. Capitol, S-207, between 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. est. C-Span schedule notes that they will be broadcasting the press conference live, after Bush’s speech. This should be very interesting…

9. Oooh, Oooh, Ohhh, that text is finally up for that bill at Thomas.
(Don't look at me like that. I actually watch Senate Committee hearings and read the damn bills. Well, the ones that aren't 9,000 pages long and deal with weird spending stuff.)

Go to: http://thomas.loc.gov/

Enter S. 1993 in the field for legislation.

Read the lovely bill. (Okay, so I like to read legislation. You knew I was geeky when you invited me to this party.)

BTW, so this is what Sen. Kerry was doing. I was wondering what could have possibly kept him from Ted Stevens Commerce, Science and Transportation Committe Open Forum on Decency. I mean really only actual real issues that really mean something to the nation, like war and peace, could have possibly kept him from that Decency hearing. :sarcasm: &

10. Did you watch any of that?
That Christian Coalition woman was something else. According to her, broadcasting violence (Saving Private Ryan) is fine, because war is not a crime, but showing breasts is criminal.
Watching Stevens all day was a real drag, but the topic is work related, so I suffered through it.

Woo hoo on the Kerry thing, BTW. This recess is just too long...

14. No, I actually didn't.
How bad was it? I got the 'Danger Will Robinson, Danger!' signals from this one. I just couldn't take the Rethugs and their decency stuff this week. I just couldn't do it. (It's on line at C-Span. Anything worth checking out?)

I mean really this is just too much. The Rethugs really believe they can use Decency as a club to hit the immoral, atheist, Christmas--hating, evolution-loving libruls with. Why can't he just leave it alone and switch the channel already? I get that he thinks that a single swear on The Sopranos is a greater threat to the children of America than, oh, endless war. But I just couldn't watch hours of this stuff. (I'd rather have a root canal.)

19. Jack Valenti was great.
As were others representing the NCTA and broadcasters.

I think the first amendment came out ahead of the fundies on this one. There is a rating system, after all, and there are parental controls available to block channels that are not 'kid friendly'.
Sure, there is room for improvement, but the technology is there. No need to start from scratch.

I don't recall who made the point that we don't have to make a choice between freedom of speech and safeguarding our children. We have the technology to do both. But it was a high point to this VERY LOOOOONG hearing.

A root canal sounds like a nice alternative.

I think a couple of days after the 10th.

When you posted that it was up I went and checked again and voila! there it is in all it's lovely glory. Thanks!

This is so, ahm, concrete. And, like, in writing. Ahhhh. Brings a smile to my face and a warm fuzzy feeling to my heart.

17. I read it last night.
It's straightforward and well thought out, IMO.
I've heard a lot of positions from other people, but this is really the only comprehensive plan for stability and withdrawl I've come across.
Hagel, Murtha, etc. have made their feelings known, which is great. But no legislation to back their plans, and really, no PLAN.
I can say what I think, too. I don't have an active bill to support it, though (which is good, since I'm not a member of Congress, LOL).
Do people not see the difference?

12. I am so looking forward to tomorrow!
I really need a Kerry fix, and watching him in action tomorrow is going to be great!

From what I gleaned from watching Olberman tonight, Bush actually thinks he's doing God's appointed work, and that's why he refuses to take advice from anyone about Iraq or his war on "terr." He's delusional. Isn't this grounds enough for impeachment?

15. It would be if we had a real Congress
that was filled with courageous people who were willing to take on the White House for the good of the nation. Instead we have some timids Republicans and those awful Rethugs. Sigh!

That's why this is the 109th (Weasel) Congress. We knew it would be bad last year, it's just grating how awful these people really are.
