Our precious pets
After reading the thread about Sasha and Tay Tay losing their "best friends" I had to write this, even tho' I'm "strung out on pain pills" As some of you may know, to supplement my Widows benefits via Soc. Sec. I am employed by a company called Companions and Homemakers. One of my clients is an 81 year old woman who's son owns a "Pitt Bull" (aka Staffordshire Terrier) The dog is a sweetheart, and great companion and protector while her son is away at work. Part of my job is to walk "Princess Di" for her. I take her across the street to a Park adjacent to the old Seth Thomas clock factory. Yesterday I almost became ROAD KILL !! After she "took care of her business" we prepared to cross the street back to her house. This is a pretty busy two way St. right in the center of town, and it was during heavy traffic rush. Normally she is very good about waiting (on leash) 'til I tell her it's OK to GO across. Yesterday as we waited for traffic to clear on our side of the St. she spotted another "friend" who walks her when I'm not there, and she darted out into the Rd. and took me "flying O8) behind her" There was no holding her back, and as I hit the pavement chest and ribs first, she slipped the leash. All I could think of was her getting hit by a car as she was running loose in the Rd. When I landed, I had my head raised up so I could see whether she was safe. the guys in the garage across the St. wanted to run out and help me out of the road before I got run over, but were afraid of the dog. I had the wind knocked out of me, and couldn't catch my breath! I just laid there and cried as I watched my life pass before my eyes!!! Fortunately, the gal that caused the entire situation managed to get the dog into the downstairs hall of the stairway to my clients apartment, then came back and helped me get up, still quite shaken and thankful that neither the dog or I were killed. I had on my heavy coat, and gloves which protected me from abrasions, but boy do I have contusions, as well as bruised ribs, strained back and "whiplash" because I was trying to protect my thick skull from making contact with the pavement!!!! I hobbled to the Dr. today. My job sent me to their Dr. as it will be a workmen's comp claim. Nothing was broken, just bruised and battered. Got some Pain killers and the OK to go back to work, but just lite duty. I thank God that I love animals as much as I do, and I thank Him for having His Guardian Angels surrounding both of us yesterday. I also pray that no one I know, saw me go flying..........thru the air.........and landing (all 200+ lbs of me) in a "belly whopper"!!!

1. awwww...DC I'm so glad you're ok. What a terrifying experience.
I know sometimes I'm not sure if there is one God or an army of Angels watching over us. But like you, a few weeks ago, I had a really near miss when someone went through a 4 way stop without stopping. And they were going 65. They came so close to hitting us. Had they hit me, I would be dead (it was the drivers side they would have broadsided.). Also, 8 deer ran infront of my car that very same night. Any one of those 8 deer could have damaged the car and maybe hurt me or my daughter.

I know after living through that near miss, I definitely felt that angels were out there that night protecting me.

Sounds like your angels were watching over you too.

6. Why..........?????
does it take "close calls" like this for us to realize that, no matter what we call "Him, Her", there is someone out there looking out for us? I have had close calls in the past, and I KNOW that there were protectors surrounding me! I do believe in Angels, I do, I do, I do !! I believe they are even there when "it is our time"to go, to usher us home. I believe in "pet heaven" too!! 'Cause if there are no pets there, I don't want to go there! I'm on the mend, and will return to work after the New Year. Thanks for your kind response!!

7. Thank you!
Believe me it was scary, and sudden!! Just a few minutes before it happened the traffic had been very heavy. The fact that it was on a block of the street between two traffic lights, helped as well I'm sure. I am still amazed that my main concern was that the dog didn't get hit!! I guess I was in shock or something, because I had ABSOLUTELY NO FEAR for myself. I was just going to lay there in the street until I got my wind back and have someone help me get up!!! My eldest daughter, a nurse, has taken to calling me "Roadkill"!! LOL ( it's the only way I can laugh without pain right now!) LOL LOL LOL    Whew, that felt OK !!

3. Oh, DC, I am so sorry to hear about your fall.
I too have a very sweet, but very strong lady pit bull and have been dragged about a bit when she has gotten too excited on the leash. I'm glad you recovered with only minor injuries and the pup is ok. Feel better soon!

someone who understands, sweet Vektor!! My Lord I never expected that I couldn't control that dog. I've had large dogs my whole life (Belgian Sheepdogs) I used to breed, and show them. I had two Champions! It feel's like another lifetime ago now. I am used to dealing with my "flufferbutt" Bichon, named Flurry, who is my companion "lap dog" these days!! They say everything happens for a reason, but I haven't figured what it is yet in this case. I'll let y'all know when I do!! :pals: P.S. I can visualize you getting "dragged around" by your dog, you're such a peanut!!

4. Glad you weren't seriously injured.
Those are some painful and uncomfortable injuries though. Best wishes for a speedy recovery (bruised ribs, ouch).

Strangely enough, the ribs don't hurt as much as the back strain, and the "whiplash effect" in between my shoulder blades! Yeah it could have been much worse, like "why didn't I break a collar bone, or what if my head had hit the pavement as hard as my chest and ribs did. And if a large trailer truck had been coming by just as the dog lunged?" results, ROADKILL!!!! I've had a cracked rib or two as well as torn cartilage of the ribs, and trust me, that's much more painful!! Thanks for the good thoughts!!

5. Oh DC, take it easy for a few days.
I have a big dog of mixed heritage and he once spun me around good in my own yard and I went down 'arse-over-teakettle' right in my own front yard. (I didn't break anything but my dignity. Thank goodness it was twilight and nobody saw me.) It took a few days to heal up from the mishap.

Take it easy and rest up. I'm very relieved to hear that you are okay. I agree, the angels were watching out for you that day. (Thank goodness.)

10. And to you Tay Tay,
A great big thank you for getting me on this forum, where I know we can all go for strength and "strokes" when we need them!! LOL boy that "dignity" thing is a bitch ain't it?? I know people in town have said to me "hey, I saw you out walking the dog as I drove by the other day"!! Oh Lord, when I finally got up off the road, that's all I could think of, oh please, I hope no one I know saw me laying there, although I would love to see a video of my "flight" thru' the air!!!!! Was I graceful enough? Or did I look like a great big beached whale that had just done the proverbial "belly flopper" as I have also done in the pool for all the world to see!! Yep, I guess this is the only way I'll be laughing for a while!!! Love to y'all!!!:grouphug: oooch, not too hard! DC

11. That is such a wonderful thing you do, helping the elderly take care
of their pets...no wonder why your angels were with you.
I believe! I too have been in situations when I just knew it was more than luck.

Glad you, and the dog, are okay!

12. The job is more rewarding ...........
than the small income it gives me. I have become a part of their family, and visa versa. I only have two clients that I see on an average of about 17 hours between them, per week. My gentleman client has Parkinsons, and enjoys "taking me out" to lunch twice a week. They just need someone who cares, and I certainly do. I run errands for them, do their laundry, wash dishes, clean their bathrooms, dust ,etc. They fill a void in my life as well. Thank you for caring....... easy now, not too tight! LOL DC
