A good cause and we get to see Sen. Kerry again. Sounds wicked awesome if you ask me. I'd like to do a sponsorship depending on how many people are going. Let me know. (Tickets on me this time.)

2. I know we don't have the numbers.
But 10 people gets us our own table. Perhaps the angel who sent me this info can share a table.

4. The Gold is $500
for ten people. Let's see if we can do that or partner with someone else who could beef up the umbers. I think NH is in an interesting place right now and might be turning the slightest shade of blue. I would love to help it turn a bit more blue. This might help.

18. I'll put in whatever we need to make the $500. I will probably be
bringing another supporter if she can make it. I have a Paypal acct. and can send the money tonight to reserve us a table.

Why are so many JK supporters women? (Yes, Vek, I'm giving you carte blanch on this one...hehe.)

5. I think we may go
Hubby and I. Money isn't a problem this time around, and it sounds great. If we get all the local birthday bloggers to go, we might have enough for a table, no?

6. That would be great!
So far, we have 4. We only need 6 more. (Then 4 of us get to go to the 'meet and greet' reception before hand and have a picture taken. Yawn, been there, done that. LOL!)

8. Go for it guys!
If you get a change to talk to JK, please tell him "hello" from all of us! And Tay, GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN WITH HIM THIS TIME! You don't have to play "mom" in New Hampshire, only in Massachusetts! (I wanna go too  .)

9. I'm jealous!!!
But I hope all the local "birthday bloggers" can go, and say Hi to the Senator for the rest of us. Oh, and ask him when he's coming to Philly? Maybe make an appearance to raise money for the Delaware County Democrats? After all, umm...

In 2004, Kerry won PA by 144,248 votes. A whopping 30% - 42,176 - of those votes came from Delaware County alone.

After the 2004 election, Rick Santorum remarked: “we were crushed in Delaware County and we didn’t think that was possible.

10. Will do.
Year's early. I suspect he will be all over the place. Keep your eyes pealed, you never know, he could show up in PA in support of Casey a lot.

21. An appearance in the Western part of PA would be welcomed also.
The local Repub rag would be beside it self.

11. Question: when is it worth it to spend the money and fly to one of
these things? I know, tough question. It's just that I, like I'm sure half of this board, sort of feels like I should have made the effort for that Boston b-day bash to get up there. Kerry did come to Arlington, VA but on a weekday (and it's nearly 4 hours from me). Somehow I don't see him coming here, unless he gets nostalgic for all things Navy, and decides to visit Norfolk again (I was less connected to politics then, and didn't even know he was coming there until after the fact). I also don't see him visiting any Swift Boat conventions anytime soon (what do y'all think?). So back to my original question -- when should out of staters bite the bullet, spend the money on plane tickets, and go see him? I would like to, you know, meet him once before I die (since it looks like I'll probably never meet Bono. oh, maybe I could meet them both at the same time -- that would be great!!). Just wanted your opinion.

12. It might be worth it this summer.
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 01:32 PM by TayTay
And, with the nice weather, you can drive. Plus, it might be worth it again this Dec. This dinner is very, very local. It won't be like Boston at all. (It's too NH specific.) It's very different from Boston, in that it is not being held FOR JK. It won't be anything like that Dec. thing.

There may be quite a few folks in Boston this summer. (When the weather is nice, you could drive if you wanted to and the hotel rates can be decent just outside of the city.)

I want to see you, but this event is too local. There will only be a 'few' of us there. Save the money. It is theoretically possible that better events will come up.

Why wouldn't he go to the reunion of the real Swift Boat guys who actually know him? He's been before. I can't see him cancelling cuz of the liars, not if he enjoys the reunions.

(I love NH and I want to help with the races there. No slam on NH intended at all.)

15. Thanks for the info. It makes me feel better!
I kind of get the impression that the Swift Boat veterans who didn't know him, don't like him because of his protesting the war. After all, none of them were draftees -- they all had to volunteer for Swift Boat duty which means they were more gung ho. Once I visited that Swift Boat website, which was in the Tour of Duty book. It was not a political site, but simply one that was trying to keep track of all of the veterans and the boats. When you look back to the comments prior to Kerry's winning the nomination, it was all neutral stuff, just a bunch of guys trying to stay together. But once Kerry got the nomination, the owner of the site put up something that he was opposed to John Kerry for president. Then there were all of these hostile comments (a lot no doubt from right wingers who weren't veterans), but I just got the impression that most of the swift boat veterans, except the ones who really knew him, hated him for his antiwar activities.

Any stats to refute this?

And do you really think that JK could go to one of these conventions and be all nice and friendly, if he came face to face with Steve Gardner or Thorlow? As Jon Stewart would say . . . awwkkwwaarrdd . . .

16. Given Kerry's stature and personality,
I would bet the awkwardness might be more in the opposite direction. There was a story (the source I can't remember) from Iowa of Kerry visiting with veterans where Kerry said he would stay and answer their questions as long as they wanted. If nothing else, he would get points for having the courage to face them.

Remember they KNOW they lied.

20. It will probably be much like the Baines Rally but with food.
Since I'm a NH resident and this is my county, I'm thrilled to be helping the "cause" and also to hang with other Kerrycrats again (even just a couple), not to mention the Senator's presence.

Boston in summer sounds like a blast. I'd love to go to that reunion of Good Swift Boaters too!

One other thing to think about in regard to Kerrycrat gatherings in the MA/NH area: there might be some fundraisers in the scenic areas of NH too. Kerry and mountains: how could you go wrong there?

14. I assume if they did have a swiftboat convention
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 01:36 PM by karynnj
he might go. He knows he was a hero and everyone there with him knows. To not go, gives the floor to the SBVT. Kerry knows it was political and I assume that some of those who participated less actively by signing know that what was done dishonored all of them. Webb's comments a week or two ago in the NYT editorial are important - this is seen as a despicable Republican tactic. Kerry has nothing to be ashamed of.

I would imagine that in Kerry's presence, the majority of swift boat people would be in awe. Consider that Kerry blew O'Neil away in the 70s. Since then, Kerry has pretty much devoted his life to public service and has consistently fought for the military. (Consider that the guy the SBVT helped elect has cut VA funds and sent our troops to war ill equipped) Kerry is a US Senator and is one of less than 50 men who will be a major party nominee for President this century.

19. I just think that prior to '04, this was something he looked forward to
He liked seeing all of the other guys, and they even got to drive a real swift boat in the Norfolk harbor. But now, it's all a painful reminder of what happened in '04. Sure, JK is tough, and can be pretty darn intimidating, so it's not like he would let those guys bother him, it's just how fun would it be for him now. Knowing that 100 or more at least signed stuff against him (even if only a handful REALLY smeared him by appearing in commercials and such). Obviously, if he needed to do it out of duty, he would. But if he doesn't have to go, would he WANT to go?
