Its so hard to put with, isn't it? Its really difficult to understand when you see it on a progressive message board too.

It's times like this that you realize that the far left fringe has no more common sense or reasoning skills than the far right fringe.

doesn't matter what the topic, if it doesn't go along with their perspective they jump and attack. I wonder if they are even Dems, I think a lot of them are not.
Geez, even dumping on the movie "Crash" because it wasn't their pick. I doubt any of them even watched it, and if they did, it shows how closed minded they are.

some of their arguments really bother me. I liked Brokeback Mountain and I thought it would win. If it had, it would have deserved the award. However, Crash was good too and was worthy of an Oscar as well. They act as if racism isn't a relevant topic when it still is. It's not "safe", its an ugly reality which should be faced along with homophobia

but if it had won, it would of been fine with me. It got a statement out that needed to be heard. I did see Crash and it just showed how much bigotry still lies deep in this country. I still haven't seen Good Night and Good Luck, but there again it is a statement that needed to be heard.

BBM won a lot of really good awards (I did think Williams got snubbed since she's just a better actress than the other people in general). "Crash" made sterotyping and rascism to where people can relate to it of today. Even though we as a country have progressed for the most part on those issues it's still a big issue. Look at how republicans treat Arabic people in general or anyone with brown skin like the man in the film "Crash."

14. Well, I really don't think that |

It's just that sometimes people don't think before they say some things. Maybe it wasn't meant to sound wrong, but it ends up sounding that way regardless because of a lack of critical thinking.

They say that the Awards were tilted against gay people because they did not give the Award to BBM. You can say the same thing towards them, but they lack so much maturity that they dont see it.

Academy members aren't 8 old men who vote on everything. It's everyday industry people. Plus, it won 3 Oscars. I was surprised it didn't win but not horrified. Both movies were worthy

What is this all about?
Are we having a bashing session here?
Ahm, I think we might need to clarify this for the people who came in in the middle of the meeting here.
So, ahm, what is going on here?

it's about how ignorance is displayed throughout this board when people claim to be progressive. I ran across a thread which basically accused all Salvadorans of being in gangs. I mean how ridiculous is that? That's just one example.

First, I was the one that brought up the Oscar winners, due to the many threads here last night, which IMO were way over the top. I myself did not post in any of them, not worth it.
I see them all as winners, if they weren't good, they wouldn't of been nominated, and just getting the nod is a winner for them.
What happens here on DU many times is that some do not have any respect at all for others opinions and instead of agreeing to disagree the mindless attacks begin.
So in no way did anyone bring your conversation to this forum, I was the one who brought in the topic without knowing anything of what you had said out in other forums.
In the heat of things like this anger sometimes gets the best of us, so it is good to take a step back and a deep breath and a willingness to agree to disagree.

and a sound way to move forward. Plus, some of us didn't see the Awards show or the movies involved and have no opinion on any of this either way and can't comment on the merits or anything.
:grouphug: agreed.

Jesus.
Things are NOT right around here, kiddies. The words "fucked" and "up" come to mind the most frequently, but "ignorant," "diseased," "disturbed" and just plain "HORRIFYING" would not be inaccurate terms to apply to the current collective mindset of much of this site. Between the post-Oscar fallout, the madness in South Dakota, and fat fucking assholes in the Lounge promoting eugenics, (and worse) I may have to take one of those breaks everyone is talking about. Because? Fat fucking assholes. With parents who obviously dropped them on their heads a lot as babies.
