The program I work for is doing a beach clean-up tomorrow morning! I was hoping this was going to be shown in the evening. Now I have to pray for lots and lots of rain. :( I'm now totally bummed out. If you hear of them replaying it again at any other time, PLEASE let us know!
(And no, I don't know how to use my VCR.)

Sen Kerry is on in my local market at 10 on C-Span and sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 on ABC. If this conflicts, I'm gonna be pissed.

6. Guess who's on Road to the White House instead of Kerry? |
|
His Barfbagness himself. That's it -- the gods must be against us!!!! That idiot is running for president and he hasn't even been re-elected senator in my state. F*** him!!! Do your job you numbskull, and maybe check on Virginians once in a while. Oh that's right -- doing the job of a senator is "boring". Okay, I'm having a MAJOR temper tantrum here!!!
I've got two DVRs. I will tape both This Week and the speech. IB -- if you can't see it, I'll put it on a tape for you and mail it off. So don't worry.

7. It seems to be Reub month on "Road to the Whitehouse" in April. |
|
Maybe it is better that Senator Kerry's speech isn't aired as part of "Road to the Whitehouse", IMO, people may dismiss it as unimportant if they think it was done for nothing but political posturing. I think it plays better and will have a stronger impact as a serious policy and Constitutional rights speech.

9. I think 10 am is a good time, |

because it's right after Washington Journal. Hopefully, maybe they'll have it on a Saturday too, as part of their American Perspectives program. I don't want to start a rumor--this is just speculating. We'll see.

it's not really a campaign type speech or event. while everything they do should be considered if/when they run for office. this is something that he would do whether or not he was running for President.

12. That is a good point -- it was not a running for president speech at all |
|
But the thing is is that Road to the White House is a show political buffs may check out every week, whereas a 10 AM time may be missed. Still, I'm just happy that they are showing it.

Ginny just posted that Cspan will show the speech again tomorrow afternoon and I'll be home by then, but I would still love to have a copy. (And I'm sure I'll miss This Week, regardless.) I'll be happy to send you some money for postage. Thanks again!

when he said he became interested in politics because he heard Reagan say "If not us, who? If not now, when?" I don't know if Reagan said this - but if he did, without attribution, it's plagerism. Hillel, a renown Jewish sage said:
"If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
But if I am only for myself, what am I?
And if not now, when?

18. Good, then maybe they will show all the speakers |
|
This was an exceptionally well-chosen list of speakers. Each speech led into the next. The Reverend's invocation was a call to peace and a reminder of the immorality of war.
The brave Captain Powers talked about his opposition to the current war in Iraq. He was brilliant and a brilliantly chosen link between what was recounted about dissent in the time of the Vietnam War and dissent today toward the current war in Iraq. Powers was the one who said that famous line about 'the last man to die for a mistake.' That line was very clearly said about this war, but it also emotionally pulled the crowd into both the man who said it earlier and first and the young man who has to, sadly, say it now. That was one of the highlights of the day for me. OMG, I almost cried. It was so beautifully well done.
I have no idea if that will play on C-Span. But that was quite a moment. The crowd was standing and clapping and it was really loud. But it's also so sad that this has to be said again. So very, very sad. Why can't we learn this?
Oh, and hand's off my young, eloquent, and brave young Captain. He's ours in Massachusetts. We grow them like this around here. We need future Cngressmen and Senators on the bench you know. No stealing.
