The Federal Marriage Amendment failed yesterday 49-48. (It did not get cloture and is dead for the year.)

The repeal of the Estate tax just failed to get cloture by 57-41. (Whew, that was close.) That should also be dead for the year.

Now for the Anti-Flag Burning Amendment. (Which I fear will pass.)

I watched a "debate" yesterday on NewsHour about the "death tax" :banghead: between some RW apologist asshole and Bill Gates's father (who is both smart and a sweetie). I wanted to heave a rock through the tv.

I am soooo relieved to hear this didn't pass - I was worried. Did any repukes vote against it? Is the Baucus "compromise" dead too?

As for flag burning (isn't it everyone's favorite sport??) I guess Hillary will be leading the charge like a latter day Valkyrie. Gag me.

Chafee voted Nay on cloture. (Yeah!)

At least 4 Dems voted for it. I got Nelson of Nebraska, Blance Lincoln of Arkansas (Walton and Wal-Mart land.) I will update when the Senate site posts the votes.

Now lets hope that the rethugs won't use these same issues and vote outcomes as scare tactics in November. I recall reading that regardless of vote outcome, all three would be win-win situations for the thugs come election time.
