Contest suggestions?
Since we're going to be leaving town on June 3 I want to get a topic locked in before I go, so let's hear it. What good ideas do you all have? I'll take suggestions until Friday or until we get 10, whichever comes first, then we'll do a poll. I think that will give us enough time to get something selected before I go, and then you can have a couple weeks to take shots until I get back. Okay?

1. Doorways and windows
Maybe more like Portals...?

Good timing re: your trip. Am leaving on a trip May 30, and won't be back until about June 21. BUT...will have my digital camera and laptop, so hopefully will capture something new to enter this time around once the topic is decided.

Awesome win, Blue! :hi: :loveya:

9. Thanks, Whoa...
Yes, the timing worked out just right. If I start requesting contest entries before you get back from your trip, will you still be able to enter something from the road? I was thinking of putting up an entry thread around the 15th or so.

19. Absolutely will be able to enter at that time
If I have a pic to go with the theme :D

Another suggestion based on my original one:
The View Through
Meaning, photos that are looking through something to see another view. Could make for some very interesting perspectives.

21. Yes, I think if we called it "portals" or "view through"
that would include doors, windows, certain geologic formations, naturally framed scenes and other creative possibilities. (Trying to type while swatting these damn mosquitoes -- they're b-a-a-a-a-c-k.)

23. Alaskan Mosquitoes
Bigger than life, twice as ugly, and like to cover exposed human body areas at the rate of 10 mosquitoes per sq. in.

24. I was going to go out and get a photo...
...but you beat me to it. People up here joke (?) that it's the Alaska state bird.

3. Sunsets!
(The only way to make sure Blue doesn't run away with this category is to choose it for when she's running the contest and can't enter. )

16. That's true, June is for weddings...
...but I think that topic might be a little tricky since not everyone has access to someone getting married. Would you mind if I make an arbitrary decision to exclude this one since I've got so many suggestions now?

12. Thanks. It sure wouldn't be too restrictive.
At the same time, I think it'd invite the kind of creativity and innovation that makes it fun. Clearly, there's a LOT that'd rest on how the photo is titled. But maybe that gives those who don't have all the super-duper, fancy-shmancy equipment (and merely have snapshot cameras) a chance to compete. Dunno.

17. Oh great. Now we have to know "words"
It's bad enough that I have to remember to remove the lens cap and put a flash card in the friggin' camera... now I have to know "words".

If this theme is the chosen one... I'd suggest not allowing Titles for the entries. It would give the Lizards more of an interactive participation with the contest.

Excuse me.. I have to go. A rare yellow beak red breasted African Qloon just landing on my window sill. Remove lens cap. Check. Flash card. Check. Shit... the battery is dead.

18. That's an interesting suggestion (no titles) ...
... gotta think about that. Would a photo of a automobile radio be automatically recognized as a "car-tune"/cartoon? Would many try to do a photo-rebus? Interesting.

20. That's the kewl part
Who knows how a photo would be interpreted? It would give the photographer freedom to be creative and it might actually force the Lizards to look at the photos instead of just doin' the quickie browse. "Titles" would remove the mystery.

Just my take on it. I actually like doin' Sunsets when Blue' can't play but I haven't decided cause' I don't know how the poll will shake down yet.

13. Balloon, croon, pontoon, cartoon, swoon...
OMG, this is SO FUN! I think the Lounge Lizards would really get a kick out of this contest theme, too. :)

11. Congratulations, Blue
Loved the pic!

Some suggestions:
Wildflowers found ONLY in Central Minnesota :)

After Dark
Motion
Night Moves.....(very loose, could be more about style than something actually "moving".)
Abandonned/Forgotten

Have a safe trip.

25. And you may have noticed in the Lounge thread...
...that I have told EVERYBODY that you're not a dingbat. Where did that epithet come from anyway? I've never experienced anything even remotely dingbattish about you. :pals: Loved your photo, by the way.

LOL. You guys are quick.

I think I will now officially close the suggestions thread, and I'll put up a poll within the next day or so.
