Poll question: Please help me pick a Autumn photo.
I'm not sure about which of these to use. I would appreciate any input. New England is made for autumn photography and I have way too many to chose from. I may just randomly select one.

1. Heron

2. A Field

3. West Pond

4. Little Pond

5. Crawford Notch

6. Bowers Pond

7. White Mountains

8. Sandwich Range

9. Woods

10. Sheep

1. Love the golden water with the heron...
I almost had a heron shot in mine, but when I stopped my bike he flew off :(

3. This one was busy fishing.
As soon as I stopped shooting he plunged his head right into the water and got a small fish. I'm leaning toward 1, 2,or 3.

2. Its between 3 and 4 for me
I chose 3 because I like the texture of the water but ..I'm sure 4 will do better in a vote because of its smoothness

4. Any one of these could win
I finally went with Crawford Notch because the psychedelic range of colors is so stunning and because you've composed the shot perfectly. The composition seems "found" or "as presented by nature", but you've framed the scene to draw the eye into that huge space plane by plane. It stood out, even among the other magnificent photos here. I'm deeply impressed with them all.

5. No Fair!
You have to turn yours into black and white in order to participate in the contest. :)
(I like little pond, but maybe we should just have a Cobalt Violet contest instead of a fall contest.)

6. I like Little Pond too.
But I think I'm biased because that is were I swim. It would have looked even better 4-7 days later but we had no evening sun then. The photo lacks all subtlety. That's kind of why I like the heron because with the reflection of the foliage in that water autumn is only suggested.

7. Holy Shit !!!!
Just for the record the phrase "Holy Shit" has been used in photography since the 1800's so I hope I'm not offending anyone here. In the early days photogs would proclaim ... "Holy Shit" when a photo would actually turn out. In modern times the phrase "Holy Shit" has a broader and more subjective meaning as it relates to photography. It usually means.. "damn, those great photos ... I wish I had a pic or two like that laying around".

Or, when used during a photo contest it could mean... "I am sooo screwed if you enter any of these".

I'm a sucker for reflections so I went with the "Holy Shit!!" reflection.
:hi:

The first one to come up on my browser was #5, and I was thinking "O.K., that's going to win the contest." Then #4 came up, and that was even better...maybe...

The bottom line is: I can't make a choice. You could pick any image between, say #3 and #7 (although, if you go with #6, you might want to straighten the horizon a bit), and be the immediate front-runner.

And you also brought back all sorts of memories of my youth in New England, where we would usually spend Columbus Day weekend around either Franconia Notch or Newfane. Sadly, that was years before I developed an interest in photography -- but, even if that were not the case, I doubt I could have come up with any photos that could compare with yours here. Great work!

:applause:

16. Thank you.
The first week in October is definitely peak for the White Mts. A couple weeks later for where I am in Mass. But I like the full span from early to way way past peak. So I doesn't much matter where I am from mid September-late November; there is a constant bombardment of scenery.

The only big change in Franconia since you were there as a youth is the loss of the Old Man of the Mountain. And a lot more traffic. I'm sure you'ld do some very fine photography there or anywhere.

15. I think I may go with that one.
I just wanted to see if there was one that people seemed to like more than the others. I don't really have a favorite, but I think my perception of the things I'm very familiar with is a bit distorted.

8. All very nice.
Southern California Autumn's are so boring. Unless is overcast you can't tell it from Summer.

13. We pay for it in dirty brown slush in the roads for 5-6 months.
Not a pretty sight. But I do love the winters here too. Just not the roadways.

although I think I might crop the sky down a little, just a tiny bit. I love those purple flowers in the front.

12. I love Little Pond.
I mean not the photo but the real pond. And I do love NH but only the mountian photos are from NH. All the water ones are from right here in MA within 10 minutes from my home. I love New England for a lot of reasons.

I grew up on the north shore, but lived in Becket for awhile.

18. Bolton, Stow, Hudson, Sudbury Harvard.

The Metro West area. Most of these shots are in Bolton.

I don't think I've been to Becket. I need to visit the Berkshires more. I ususally go north to NH when I do a day trip though. I either go to Monadnock or The Whites, sometimes the Greens in VT. In the summer I go to Martha's Vinyard or The Whites.

Where in New Hampshire are you?

19. I was in Gorham/Berlin working for App Mtn Club, but now in FL
for a few months. Heading back north in May. Bershires are ok, but nothing compared to the Whites. I've grown fond of Evan's Notch mainly because it gets closed off during the winter and it's more primitive than the rest of the area.

I keep looking at your photo's. They are outstanding.

20. I'll have to check out Evan's Notch.
Primitive sounds good to me. Working for AMC sounds like a fun job, not that I really know.

21. AMC is dysfunctional as hell, so it works great for me.
Evan's Notch is Route 113B which runs from Bethel Me and winds in and out of NH and Maine and down into East Conway & Fryeburg. The photo I submitted is on 113 B more toward Bethel.

It how all roads in New England should be in the fall. When was that taken? I am so going to have to check Even's Notch out.
