4. Afterglow?

It's gotten a little snarky round' here of late. Hope that hasn't scared people off.

And where did Touchdown's thread go? I blew in... saved the image... blew out. Was wanting to comment on it. There have been other threads that linked to GD asking about images.

Blue' has always used the photo group has a safe haven and to get a comfort "hug" from the insanity that goes on in other DU "places". Why now is it being policed?

Shit... I could go back and hit "alert" (ya' know, I've never done that... ever!!) on quite a few threads that are in violation of DU rules and the guidelines set for this group in the pinned post. I don't know what's going on round' here but it definitely "feels" different.

Just read a post that I "almost" replied to in a manner that would have gotten me fried, but I didn't. I'm being a good widdle boy. :eyes:

Oh well... I'm goin' go snap some pics. See ya' on the negative side....
:silly:

10. Hmm...
Didn't even notice it had disappeared...I really thought it could have been an appropriate and interesting discussion here in terms of how photographic images are used to create/reflect unspoken messages.

At any rate, I'm not scared off - just quiet because I've been unbelievably busy at work and this week I've been taking care of my kitty who decided it was time to go join her sister (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=243&topic_id=22070&mesg_id=22070 )

12. Bum.Me.Out.
How very sad. Ms F and myself never did the Be Fruitful and Multiply thing so The Dog is our "kid". There's definitely a unique bond that develops between yourself and a "pet". Really sorry that you lost Kitty.

I saved the image from Touchdown's thread. Maybe I'll start a new thread on it. I didn't read the GD posts but I did see it was approaching 200 replies, so I'm guessin' it got it a little "warm". I thought it was an excellent example of like you said.... create/reflect unspoken messages. All I saw was Touchdown asking for some input from the photo group but maybe I missed something that came later.

16. Thanks.
I don't know that anything much happened in this group (other than a gentle nudge about the rules), but the discussion in GD was a bit warm!

2. O.K. so no--one's answering
...well can't you just let it ring a little longer?

I'll just sit tight, through the shadows of the night, let it ring for evermore...

(Apologies to ELO)

11. Believe it or not, I DON'T!
My husband bought our cheapo Panasonic phones in Germany when I wasn't here, and didn't get an answering machine. How mid-20th century of him?!

Not like we get that many calls anyhow...I have a Vonage V-phone and call over my computer, anyone can call me here like I live in PA. So f'ing cool.

And I just bought a Slingbox, so I can watch American TV on the computer, hook up a TiVO and you get both place-shiftng and time-shifting.

I feel like I have one foot in the US and one on German soil, not a bad predicament. :D

7. Hi, F...
Don't worry about me. I'm fine, just buried. I'll finally be through all this work tomorrow night, probably sometime in the wee hours, still have about 120 pages to go. When I get done with all this, I'll tell you guys how many pages I've typed since we came back from the Gulf Coast, and you WILL be truly amazed. My partner has assured me that I can take a day or two off before starting up again.

I'll be posting some election day photos on Monday. Our candidate lost, but I've still got some good pictures.

8. found a republican today

They are pissed but too embarrassed to show their faces. Keep uncovering them while raking leaves. It is a real pain in the patootie.

I'd hate to think you were raking leaves over a Dem. But that slight sneer... maybe...

17. It is THEE Classic 13 yo SNEER
as in: OHHHH, PLEEEEEEASE, you are NOT wearing that, are you? sneer.
as in: I don't have to tell you which friends I am going out with tonight.
as in: I won't get up until 2:00 pm today sneer.

Given some thought- that does sound alot like a Republican. Self-centered, accepting no responsibility and belittling of others.
Now, my children have all outgrown this phase ( the Leaf Lady above is the youngest and she *is* showing glimmers of humanness once again as she nears 14yo. ) Many of our fine republican friends are firmly STUCK in this developmental phase. Thinking they know it all yet completely incapable of any adult behavior. Hmmmmmmm....

If there ARE are of them out there in the leaf pile they are DROWNING tonight.

22. Narcissism is a normal phase of emotional development
We typically outgrow it in our mid-teens ... around our sophomore or junior year in high school. This is when the "birds of a feather" behavioral emulations are at their greatest - it's how narcissistic supply is obtained. When it's severe and not outgrown, we get something like Smirk. When such a person is surrounded by sociopaths, that person often reflects (almost quite literally) those pathologies as well.

Narcissism feeds on reactions and responses - and that's why emotionally healthy adults are usually inclined to IGNORE (or drown) teen-agers in their early teens. It starves their inner monster.

Special caution applies to the female of the species. Commercial interests key into this development phase. (Watch the ads closely and you'll see how they prey on self-centered appetites.) In particular, 'fashion' and 'make-up' producers exploit this phase to gain life-long consumers.

:dunce:

She's a cute kid.

19. My favorite birdie pic
Well, there are some others, but this is the prettiest. RE: the other chirp, I've been working OT for too many days. For someone who has, in the past few years, become accustomed to being barely employed, it's a bit tiring. On the other hand, eating is good. Plus other demands on my time.

20. I don't think these are the "chirpy" kind of birds
But they look interesting. In fact, to me, they almost look like they're stuffed. But they're not, I shot them at the Dallas Aquarium.

23. LOTS of noise but no "chirp" here...
This dude showed up last Spring and had a blast throwing old dead wood around looking for tasty bugs in the stump in our front yard. Since I had never seen a pileated woodpecker before I had to get a picture, although it took a few tries with this very fidgity (and noisy) dude.
