***PHOTO THAT CAPTION CHALLENGE***
As we discussed this is a new challenge series based on creativity. Everything and anything is okay as long as it is loosely based on the caption and it is your own work (and doesn't break any DU rules). Other than that, have fun and get your imagination pumping. As discussed extreme processing is allowed.

Discussion is heavily encouraged.

And the first challenge is:

"Why I can't sleep at night"

4. Well, that is deeply creepy
How much of the net effect is due to the cat's expression and how much to the digitizing? It looks like you were at some risk just taking the photo. The coolest thing is the discreet areas of color set off by the black and white parts.

The watercolor effect is so often misused, it's nice to see it done well and used in a way that really enhances the image instead of just being a gimmick.

Nice interpretation of the challenge theme! And, well, deeply creepy.

8. The original picture
was slightly out of focus and washed out. I cropped it to show just the cat's head and paw, amped up the contrast and fiddled with the color saturation.

Should I post the original photo?

(He really is a nice kitty... Really!)

:silly:

Ahhh....

How long do we have to come up with something? Or, when is the "deadline"?

And can you include the standard mumbo-jumbo contest license thing so I can put the results of this challenge in the group smugafugalug? (the November contest didn't have this... if anyone is wondering why it isn't put up yet)

5. Answers...
I believe we are going to try and have a new challenge each week or so - so I guess the deadline would be Saturday. With ongoing discussion if desired.

I would be happy to put the standard contest stuff into it - I was going to put it in anyway and then hesitated (who knows why). Unfortunately, I'm at work and posting quite surreptitiously, so I don't have the time to find the legal stuff - could you pm me with it? Thanks.

20. I vote that challenges be challenges and contests be contests.
In other words, contests should have stricter guidelines because, well, they're competitions. But challenges? That's about inspiring each other to greater creativity. I like the idea of art for art's sake--and even moreso if we're going to have this weekly. I mean, who needs contest pressure every week?

the license to put the pieces up in the group album. I personally have set up no other real rules besides that, except that the work must be your own.

I guess I wasn't clear. I was kidding, like I was driving and the crash woke me up.

This driver fell 50' after breaking through the barrier and then got out of his car without a scratch. The dumpster saved him. It was a big deal on seattle news yesterday. I was 30 miles away when it happened.

24. I can't make up my mind about this shot.
I'd love to know the story behind it. On one hand I could see this as a very sexy, sensuous photo. On the other hand, the black and white and soft focus and the girl's closed eyes could be construed as creepy: is the girl dead? Is she in the process of getting murdered? Who owns what hand? A good shot, all around, because it really does give me pause.

29. Shift/PrtScrn captures the whole screen, and
Alt/PrtScn captures the top window only. Either one gets copied to the clipboard, and then, when your image editing software is open, you select Edit/Paste to show the image. Then do what you wish (save as, for example) with it.

The last time I remember that happening was when I read Stephen King's Misery, which I read in one night about 15 years ago. I had to read it by flashlight, under a blanket so I wouldn't keep my partner up with the lamp on. But it was too scary for me to put down!

I was actually reading under the blanket was a James Patterson novel - Kiss the Girls I think. It must have been at least 10 years ago, and I was so freaked out I couldn't put it down. The killer came in through air ducts and we were living in an old house that made lots of noise. I don't think I slept at all.

68. Thank you, it is getting there.
The back splash is going to be stainless steel. I thought about tile but Ter really wants the steel. Have to let him get his way on something and I would have to do the tiling so why not that. The red is the new color. Beyr California Poppy is the color. Both of us like it more each time we see it. As far as the kitchen proper I put enough cabinets in there is going to be very little painting. Behind the fridge and around the doors is about it. Well and the ceiling whenever the recessed lights get put in. Guess I'll have to get red small appliances. Toaster, can opener, coffee maker and whatever else to bring red into the rest of the kitchen.
